I’ve long fallen in love with the “reincarnated into a game” trope, but even putting aside my bias, this is one of if not the best manga I’ve read due to the gradual, seemingly small, minute details in the plot, characters, and pacing or development.

Initially, the plot starts off with how every manga of its trope starts off: Some ridiculous event happens, and now the mc got isekai’d with some sort of plot device/armor. However, this manga pulls away from the rest of the flock in its developments and necessary incorporations of events. To put it simply, the story within the plot are unforced ... and have meaning beyond its singular use of conflict. Whether it causes a chain reaction in the development of the characters or the story, not one event was forcefully applied by the author to solely create drama while having a smooth transition into each corresponding development.

Characters easily make or break a manga; the formula goes as follows: If the main character is dislikable and every other character provides nothing of relevance and difference in the story, then there’s no reason or desire to read said story, no matter how good or original the plot may be. Due to this knowledge in mind, the characters in this manga, mainly the main character, all have a substantial, distinct personality, causing the manga to be engaging and for the mysterious elements to “pop” out. There’s also no forced “villain that is only evil for the sake of being evil,” which further elevates the difference between this manga and the typical isekais with a standard plot. To quickly note on the main character, he is incredibly likable and somewhat realistic with his character and actions towards others, mainly his sense of responsibility and reason towards his family.

I don’t want to make this review too long, but it would be an injustice to not comment on this manga’s flow or pacing, since it has one of if not the best utilization of time skips into world-building and development in a story. Most of the time, authors misuse time skips to quickly brush past development while making it seem like they “tried,” however, this manga did everything right; the main character was the subject of most time skips, spurring gradual changes within his small time skips such as a clear indication of growth in power, or there have big time skips, after the background or world was developed to an adequate amount, to further extract as much personality and growth from the main character. The power development of the mc also is incredibly engaging and thought out, as he earns his power through dedication and subtle growth; in other words, he isn’t spoon fed by the author and overcomes his struggles slowly.

To quickly retort on the world building, the manga does it in an enjoyable way via dialogue and monologue or while incorporating it alongside character introductions that’s rent overbearing on the engagement.

Possibly my longest review I’ve done, however, there was so much more I wanted to comment or praise about this manga, but the review would’ve been longer than the actual manga itself, which I would hate to do, since any more time wasted reading this review, would be the longer you’d have to wait reading one of the best transmigration mangas of all time. To recap, there’s not one absurdly great originality this manga incorporates, but the accumulation of the nitty gritty lovables make the reading experience of his manga far surpass its counterparts.

Tl;dr: An isekai with a bit of depth and a gradual power-climb. That feels rare these days (at least to me), so I'm having a great time with both the manga and the web novel.

I'm always down to give an isekai a shot. They're usually pretty bad, but I read them all the same. Surprisingly, this is one of the good ones. Most isekai have an OP MC where his/her "cheat" ability is so strong that there's no real tension, or the world is underdeveloped to the point where the setting is nonexistent, or there's a harem of ladies that throw themselves at the MC ... for no reason at all. Often it's all of the above. This one bucks that trend, to the point where the story is actually compelling. The recipe is the same - so you know the drill - but there's a bit more heart here than in most of the isekai schlock out there.

Here's the deal, MC finished playing game 2 of a 3 game series set in a fantasy world. He then reincarnates into the villain of game 2 as a child. MC wants to change the events of the story, not because it leads to HIS "bad end", but the bad end for others. It's a common isekai story, but it's just different enough to be interesting. Also, he's not instantly OP, which is great. I mean, he's just a kid. He gets hurt, nearly gets killed at times, and his decisions have far-reaching repercussions (his actions take place before the start of game 1, so the butterfly effect is in full swing already). He IS getting really strong - sure - but he doesn't start that way. It took him like 6 months for his sword skill to hit level 2, and then another 3 years (time-skip) and he still hadn't hit level 3. Sometimes it seems like most isekai are worried that they're going to get axed within a dozen or so chapters, so they need to get to the insane action immediately. This one is taking it's time with the power-creep and I'm a fan of that. At most, he can kill rank D monsters, and that's a struggle. He's not flicking his wrist and killing rank SSS+ monsters by the bushel. I'm sure he'll be killing some crazy monsters and doing some cool stuff pretty soon, but so far it's been pretty tame. Then there's the world. As of chapter 9 (current) he's still just a 13 year old kid in his tiny village, but we already know about royal factions, the history of the world, and where the story is going. I'm a sucker for a well-established world with characters that act with intelligence. Since I found that here, I started reading the web novel so I can keep the party going.

Personally, I'm giving this a 9 for now, but objectively I'd say this is around a 7 or so. It's pretty darn good for an isekai story and frankly it's just fun. It has more heart than I was expecting and for that alone, I'm going to stick with it for a while.

I randomly saw this series being recommended as a new popular title and gave it a shot. I enjoyed the batch of chapters so far as there is great potential.

Pushing aside the fact the author is behind the well-regarded Tokyo ESP (not anime but manga) storyline, this particular Isekai is well-positioned.

There is no skipping, no cheaping out, no unanswered questions or flaws of any kind. Each chapter is a well-placed buildup and closeup on the MC. He has a great personality, he is hyper-aware of the risks in the "game" he got reincarnated into. He does not take this for granted, he always thinks before ...

Not really worth reading. It is pretty much a carbon copy of every Japanese isekai story, just with the worst elements amplified. From the beginning of the story I did not think it was progressing too badly, but as you go deeper into the story you realize how flawed it is.
Yup, instead of choosing appropriate ages for the main characters, in the entirety of volume 1 they are 7 and 8 years old.
