Town of Evening Calm looks at the lives of hibakusha, atomic bomb survivors, and their descendants. Gen deals with the same population, though it is much longer, more shonen oriented, and more explicit in its depiction of the horrors of the bomb. Gen is cited as a reference by Kouno-sensei.

Astoundingly heartfelt pieces about generational memory in families connected to a particular place marked by disaster. Long memory, quiet mysticalness, little bits of beauty and home persisting through all things. Sober, joyful, both works pay respect to loss and love and life in a way that jumps out at you and draws you in. The smell of rain and dust and sunlight.

Written by the same mangaka, Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni and Yunagi no Machi Sakura no Kuni share some very observable similarities. Both are heartwarming slice-of-life stories about people who are making the best of the life they're left with due the second world war. While Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni takes place during the war, Yunagi no Machi takes place post war, after the nukes were dropped.

They are both beautifully well-crafted manga with exquisite panel placement and visual flow. They are both treats to the readers who like to take their time reading while carefully analyzing everything each panel has to offer. There is a very well thought-out attention to detail where the visual display is concerned. They both have somewhat long monologues/narrations that induce feelings of melancholia on the reader.

Both are josei manga about tragedies in life and overcoming them. If you enjoyed one, you will probably like the other as well.
