Conniving scum protagonist in RPG-style isekai.

The stories of these manhwas each centre around hunters/players fighting monsters. Systems are a prominent feature in both manhwas, allowing the MC to grow. In 'How to Use a...' the MC isn't the frontline fighting type, instead he prefers to manipulate others. The feel of these manhwas is very similar as they share similar concepts, some of them being: Powerful equipment, Monster hunting, and Systems.

Both MCs are weak at first, with attitudes that can be considered by many as scummy. They both gain somewhat obscure production-based classes in the fantasy game-based worlds they are in.

If you found Surviving the Game as a Barbarian engaging, you're likely to be captivated by How to Use a Returner as well. Produced by the same studio, both series share the compelling premise of protagonists being isekai'd into perilous and deadly worlds. In both Surviving the Game as a Barbarian and How to Use a Returner, the main characters exhibit a ruthless determination with survival as their main goal. Notably, these protagonists stand out for their exceptional intelligence and strategic minds, using wit to navigate the challenges of their hostile environments. If you enjoy narratives where protagonists employ clever tactics to ensure survival in  read more

The stories of these manhwas feature and revolve around hunters/players fighting monsters. Systems are a prominent feature in both manhwas, providing a way for the MC to grow. However, in 'How to Use a...' the MC is less on the frontlines fighting monsters and more behind the scenes controlling people. The feel of these manhwas is very similar as they share similar concepts, some of them being: Powerful equipment/Egos, Monster hunting, and Systems.

I never thought I would find a manhwa with an MC as trashy as Kang Han Soo from the FFF Class Trashhero. And just to clarify, I use the word "trashy" as a desirable trait to be found in the MC. Lee Kiyoung from the Regressor Instruction Manual is everything Kang Han Soo is - maybe even trashier. They are both manipulative; they view people as little more than tools; they do not hesitate to kill; they have systems that call them "trash". If you are a fan of either, I am sure you would enjoy the other.

Both Protagonists are antiheroes and have sociopathic traits, such as being extremely calculating & manipulative, as well as having little regard for others unless they are useful to them. Both Stories are isekais, although with differing settings (pure fantasy vs military&history fantasy). Both Protagonists seek to rise in the ranks and have an easy life. Another difference is that the protagonist of youjo senki is fairly overpowered, while the protagonist of Returner is quite weak, and mostly succeeds using manipulation, deception and lies (Though all of his recruited allies are overpowered in their own profession or skill).

Both series have a similar setting with them being transported to a fantasy setting in which they need to gather allies to survive. (Difference being in Omniscient Reader the fantasy comes to the real world rather than the MC going to the fantasy) Both MCs are really similar as well with them being the calculating type. Highly recommend them both if you haven't read one or the other.

It is a recommendation to read "How to Use a Returner" (aka "Regressor Instruction Manual") if you enjoyed "My S-Class Hunters". Not the other way round. Both the MCs are weak physically but have raised/befriended some really powerful individuals. However, Lee Kiyoung in "How to Use a Returner" is a lot more cunning/manipulative/smart.

"How to Use a Returner" and "Dusk Howler" are stories where a "villain" plays the main role. The protagonist in "How to Use a Returner" is an evil and manipulative guy who is suddenly summoned to an RPG-like world and he decided to become an ally of a person who re-arrived in this world and has useful knowledge and skills, while the protagonist in "Dusk Howler" is a kind and naive guy who started playing a VRMMORPG game in order to overcome his social phobia, but in this game he accidentally agreed to become a pupil of an evil and manipulative guy (deuteragonist) who is  read more
