For what it is, this story is criminally underrated. Like, there is no other manga within the realm of tournament stories that can even hope to compete with the amount of emotion and raw feeling this manga exudes. Much in line with works such as Record of Ragnarok, Tenkaichi manages to encapsulate so much character, emotion and amazing fight scenes within a few pages alone.
As a matter of fact, within the thirteen chapters that have been written, I have cried a total of four times. And upon two re-reads have still cried each and every time. There is just so much detail and characterisation that ... Apr 5, 2022
It is an absolutely amazing manga with some very hype and intense fights that you will undoubtedly enjoy. It is set in the year 1600 when Oda Nobunaga was the ruler, he starts a tournament to determine the strongest martial artist in Japan during the period simply for his own enjoyment and to choose his next successor. What is even more enjoyable about the manga is that the martial artists competing in the tournament are people from real life, there are fighters such as Miyamoto Musashi, Ito Ittosai, Sasaki Kojiro etc... who I'm sure you've heard of.
The art is just immaculate from the start, unlike ... Jun 26, 2024
I've started this manga out of pure curiosity because it resembled Record of Ragnarok. But I was surprised to be different in so many aspects. The character development is still as present as ever with both parties being equally well described and their motives are clear from the start. The story is also well written, with Oda Nobunaga being the big bad as the ruler of Japan and needing to see bloodshed before he dies of old age. The other non-fighters are also drawn differently to see the difference between them and their fighters but their connection is well represented.
The only sad part is that ... Nov 11, 2023
This is one of the dumbest things I ever read.
The story is so much generic and straightforward, that produces "Am I already read that?" feeling constantly. You can make a bingo sheet with "the most common tournament arc elements" and check every single cell. It may have been intended to be "simple but epic", but its not. All the characters' actions look like a parody without humor. Also, how much plot information you expect from a first two volumes of the comix? Hm? One or two complete stories that reveal the main character? Check this out - it would be 2 fights of some deranged freaks. ... |
