A solid slice-of-life series that is all-around a calm and relaxing read. Don't expect too much from the story; we're only 25 chapters in, and Seo Kouji is known for taking an extremely long time in his exposition. So sit back and enjoy the wistful character interactions, the sumptuous fanservice, and the occasional heart-pounding glimpses of romance.

-- all of it is executed perfectly, as expected from a veteran mangaka who was once known as the king of shounen romance. I'm sticking with this series because:

1. The art is breathtaking, especially the characters. Seriously, look at the girls. The way Seo draws his girls is reminiscent ... of the classic Shoujo manga style: long, slender limbs (legs for days...), and large facial features brimming with emotion-- but with the right proportion of curves as expected of a shounen artist

2. The character development never gets old or too cliche. This is just the thing to read after a long day at school or work, to unwind and watch people have fun with the every day life of running a restaurant.

3. The Seo Kouji brand. This guarantees us a long and fulfilling storyline that'll last at least 1-2 hundred chapters of bliss. Seo Kouji's made such a huge name for himself with long-spanning works like Suzuka and Kimi no Iru Machi, and built such a reputation with publishers, there's no way this series will get prematurely cancelled. That means us readers will get *plenty* of shipping material for each of our favorite heroines ;) And I bet, after reading even just the first 5 chapters, you'll already have a favorite "waifu." Seo's character development/exposition is just that strong.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy. This series is what slice of life romance is all about

After reading 30 chapters, i'm sure that Megami no Café Terrace is the best answer for question about how to create a good main character in harem manga.

Hayato, no family, young, "lonely" in a big house, having a life with 5 different girls suddenly. From the beginning, many pepole will hate him because of his overconfident and arrogance. But, Hayato is a boy willing to realize mistake and try to fix it immediately, learn every thing necessary to re-open and earn more in his Cafe.


Akane, Riho, Ouka, Ami, Shiragiku, each girl has characters different form the others:

- Akane - cold but easily shy if ... Hayato finds her weakness.

- Riho - always happy, active, but inside, she always scared be lonely and easily cries like a child if she faces with tough problems.

- Ouka - toughest, hardest girl everytime she faces with Hayato, and she is only one knowing his favorite food.

- Ami - always makes Hayato have a headace or suffer from her stupid and naive actions. She is the believable protector for Goddess cafe terrace. Sometimes, her martial makes him piss off =)))

- Shiragiku - secretest girl being best at cooking and household, but after chapter 30, she seems to know someting about Hayato she doesn't want to tell him.

Development progresses so smooth and logic. Hayato, doing everything for himself or girls by normal and exquisite ways, not silly or comical like normal harem mangas. He cares but never go to far about their peronal life. Hayato is still young, and surly he will show the weakness inside him, chapter 30 proved it. Outstanding!

Hopefully, Megami no cafe terrace will keep going and shining. Seo! Don't do anything toughly like Fuuka. Please!

This story is about the MC inheriting what used to be a café, from his late grandmother. He finds out that five hot girls ranging from high school to college age have been living there with his late grandmother. He decides to reopen the café, and employ the girls. He lets the girls stay, essentially beginning their life in a harem with the five said goddesses.

There's a lot of service around, as in every chapter at least one of the girls is seen in her underwear or in the nude (obviously, covering the no-go areas). In a way, it's kind of similar to the humor ... in Grand Blue Dreaming.

MC has character, which is a good selling point. He's not a wimp by no means.
I don't like it about him, though, that he acts really snarky towards the girls in the café. Even the ones in college who are older than him. I mean, he's only an 18 year old kid and he acts like he knows it all and has life figured out. Seriously, give me a break... the story is great, otherwise. But when these smart-ass comments and acts of the MC happen, it's a massive turn-off, for me. And it's not like he's punished for it. It's written in a way as if to present this know-it-all behavior like it's something admirable.

The story gives the same vibes as the Quintessential Quintuplet, but less lively. It's just very calm, and if you're looking for drama - don't bother. It's slowly revealed that the MC and his family have a past with pretty much all the girls in the café and their respective families. Kind of like 5-toubun no Hanayome, but more complicated as it's 5 different families and not just a quintuplet.

Solid 10/10 for me. Was intrigued by the anime scenes I've been seeing online and because of that, I decided to read the manga directly first and not the anime adaptation. I'm now at Chapter 68 and still going. All of the characters are lovable especially our chad freaking MC, Hayato. It was a typical harem ecchi scenes at first so my expectations are at bay but my gut feeling is telling me to keep on reading and I didn't regret it. Among the heroines shown, I love Ami the most because she's literally making me laugh every single chapter. Her comedic antics and dynamic ... relationship with the other girls and the MC is gold. It's really a refreshing feeling to read something like this and it's too good to be true for a harem ecchi romcom manga. And then I noticed that the author is none other than legendary Seo Kouji-san who also made one of my favorite mangas of all time which is "Fuuka". I also loved reading "Kimi no Iru Machi" as well. Thank you for making this one-of-a-kind manga. I really enjoyed it and I will never forget the names of Hayato, Ami, Akane, Ouka, Riho, Shiragiku, and also their loving grandma, Sachiko Masukabe-san! 💛🌻

A Slice of Life,Harem RomCom
The story is very simple not to complicated and easy to understand props to that
Characters are great especially the mc he is straightforward, tactless, and rude but smart (He is considered the most academic talented among Seo's protagonists ),Brave And strong he is not dense nor shy person unlike 99% harem mc out there.
Heroines are great also they are all likable and not annoying each of them have different personalities the tsundere,the comedian,the serious,the shy and the mature

1 to 46 chapters the progression of each character are not long nor short
Unlike certain manga's no boring moments,no force drama's,no over the top ... comedy everything in this manga is balance and that make it so wonderful

First off , Most of Harem anime are kinda meeeh

Why ?

Because of a dense protagonist who doesn't even know that he has a harem and is denser than a black hole but here it's different.

Why ?

Because the Mc here knows about his Harem and doesn't run away from the girls.

... Characters : For me the characters are 10/10. It is hard to find characters like these in other Japanese manga.

Art : The art is great and gives kinda nice feeling.

So, If you want a good art,character,story and especially Ecchi than give it a try. Hopefully you will enjoy it.

Since the anime is out in a week, I thought it would be a good time to write some thoughts on the manga.

First off, an important thing to note! 90% of harem romcoms are absolute trash! You can see I've given this one an 8/10, but obviously that doesn't mean it's an incredibly well written tale that will see global success. No, it's just a genuinely good, funny, and not-cancerous harem manga, which is rare!

The characters are all believable and have their own quirks and personalities. The main character isn't insufferable on either end of the spectrum (being too passive and virgin/being too cold and ... ruthless). The girls are all likeable for the most part.

The author is extremely self aware when writing this manga which creates some very funny jokes. Tropes are subverted and made fun of, but still done quite well.

Plot is somewhat slice-of-lifey (they're running a cafe) with occasional plot points that come up. The overall story is finding out which girl he ends up with, and though I can't confirm anything, I hear murmors of a possible harem ending or multiple route ending? Not sure since I've never read any of the author's other works, but I hear he's a seasoned veteran when it comes to writing romcoms.

Overall, it's a solid 8/10 romcom harem. Read it and enjoy it, don't over-analyze or dissect. If the anime has a good production budget, I can easily see a 7.7 - 8.1 rating.

Almost identical setting as Love Hina, in less compelling and a tad more edgy — not that the latter is necessarily an issue. Not bad per se, but not much material to keep us engaged. Likeable characters with their own quirks (although maybe a bit forceful e.g. Ami), but predictable narrative tropes and comedic delivery, as well as a slow-paced rhythm without much unfolding. Backstories and their resolutions are way too superficial and easy. Also not as fan service-heavy as the first chapter could make it seem in the long run, which may be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences — definitely ... comes off as a mean to grab audience though, which is valid I guess. The art is very clean, oddly enough. Might be worth a read but overall not the most exciting slice of life out there tbh.

By the way, what's the deal about that second "tip" for new writers? The whole point of a review is giving insights that reflect the opinion of the reader, so of course you should expect them to use pronouns. There's no such thing as an "objective" or unbiased review. Don't assume people can't work out critical thinking on their own, lol. And don't assume they can't read either.

A harem set in a cafe and not centered around school life?
A ML who is not a dense and useless character and actually contributes to the story?
An almost entirely adult cast?
Megami no Cafe Terrace is a breath of fresh air for the harem genre.

The cafe setting is brilliant and refreshing. Along with a fun and comedic slice of life story focused on everyday life running a cafe.

Coffee, magnificent artwork (and fanservice), fun/comedic shenanigans, top-tier waifus, and of course, a very healthy dose of romance.

Megami no Cafe Terrace sets the bar for what slice-of-life romance/harem should be.
