Kouhei Kadono's Boogiepop Series inspired many, one of them being Nisioisin– the writer of the popular Monogatari Series. Another one of his remarkable work is Zaregoto Series which is the most Boogiepop-like work of his that I've come across. It pays good tribute to this masterful novel with a number of references here and there, as well. An urban setting with a mix of sci-fi and supernatural mysteries unraveling as the stories progress while simultaneously building and exposing the interesting world around the characters. Engrossing and tasty narrative weaved through unreliable narrators. An interconnected storyline containing powerful encounters among the cast. I highly recommend checking them both out.

Do you enjoy the mental breakdowns of adolescents? Do you take pleasure in witnessing otherworldly creatures perform direct, brutal attacks on our modern society? The universes of the Boogiepop light novels and the Narutaru manga share these lovely features, and so both are to be thoroughly recommended to those of you who enjoy gritty, macabre high-school adventures.

Dark, complex, and weird, these two older series may interest the light novel reader looking for something a bit different from the norm. Anyone who enjoys one should look into the other.

Both series have a similar feel with the mysterious, other-worldliness of their subjects.

Both Boogiepop and Nijigahara Holograph revolve around mysterious injuries and deaths, with supernatural implications. Both titles are dark and esoteric, and are ideal for fans of psychological horror.
