Sakamoto Days

Tarou Sakamoto was considered the greatest hitman of all time. Feared by many, he stood at the top of the underground world until he met and fell in love with a woman. As a result, Sakamoto abandoned his life of crime and now works as a convenience store clerk.

Leaving his shady past behind proves more difficult than Sakamoto initially imagined. Many of his former rivals and partners do not believe that he has truly left the business and show up in hopes of taking him out. Barred from killing, Sakamoto must find creative ways to subdue his enemies and prevent them from bringing harm to his family, his store, and the small town he resides in.

Sakamoto Days has been simulpub digitally in English through MANGA Plus. The volumes have been published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since April 5, 2022. It has also been released in Italian by Panini Comics since May 19, 2022; and in Polish by Studio JG since October 21, 2022.

I feel like I have read far enough into Sakamoto Days to say it isn't the best shounen manga out there, never has been, never will be. That being said, I would be a liar if I said this wasn't a worthy read. So let's jump into it.

Story: 6.5/10: Sakamoto days story in the begining is quite...just...okay, it's nothing special, the guy is just an ex-assassin avoiding being iced and doing it all in flashy style. But as the plot thickens a bit, the narratives purpose seems to unfold. But as of chapter 196, it doesn't seem there is a grand thing each character ... is working towards, rather just each arc presenting an interesting plot to push the story further which leads me into...

Plot: 7.5/10: This is where I have to give sakamoto days some props. Each arc brings alot of enjoyment and nail biting tension with fantastic action while also being able to relax a bit to unravel aspects about the lore and characters. Each arc has a purpose which either is more action based or more character based. Overall, each arc has to be good to make you want to keep reading, and it does that fantastically. Just wish it didn't feel forced as it sometimes does. However, smartly, infomation revealed previously becomes important later. Sakamoto Days is well thought out.

Characters: 8/10: Oh my do I love the characters in Sakamoto Days. While some of the supporting characters sometimes follow a trope-like line (which isn't bad btw), the main cast of Shin and SakaGoato are (for the most part) unquie and somewhat complexly written characters. However, to see this, you will have to read quite a bit. Side characters are fire, that's all I need to say, designs are some the best out there. The order is a pretty cool set of characters who also have unique traits. I love it. The antagonist group is such a breath of fresh air in terms of reasoning for motives that I can't help but critizise other series for not doing the same.

Art: 10/10: This is where I think the most of the Sakamoto fanbase will agree, is that the artstyle, composition, framing, designs and technique are THE best on the shounen new gen scene as of now. Beautiful, Jawdropping backdrops paired with easy-to-follow and detailed fight scenes. Yuuto Suzuki is a genuis. If there is something to appreciate about this series. Its the painstacking artwork that clearly has been made with true love and passion

Closing thoughts: Its good, better than good, give it a try. There will be at least one aspect of this series you will stay for. Which is why I am recommending it.

Sakamoto Days! An absolute masterpiece on how to do the Shonen genre correctly, especially in todays market. With the recent departure of Jujutsu Kaisen, I really believe it to contain all the qualities needed to take over the mantle and become the new Big Shonen manga and not tryna jinx it but anime aswell.

Brief Summary:
So Sakamoto Days follows Sakamoto, a former hitman who retired from the field to pursue a normal life with the woman of his dreams and his daughter. However, a few years into his retirement, he is pulled back into the game after a former associate of his, Shin comes to visit ... him at his store. Now, Sakamato must fight to keep his family safe from the consequences of his previous life while also trying to figure out who is after him?

Characters (10/10)
Rarely have I ever seen a show with such an amazing presence of side characters. From Nagamo to Hard Boiled to Takamura, every single character in the series serve to progress the plot, they each have an amazing depth of rational behind their characters, their goals, wisdoms and personalities are incredibly diverse while still remaining interesting and relatable to your average reader.NAGAMO DA GOAT. And the main characters, notably Shin and Sakamoto are both incredibly well designed and fleshed out as the story progresses. Thankfully, they arent like other, unfortunately boring shonen mcs who's only personality is that they want to achieve their goal. It makes the characters so one dimensional and Im glad that Shin and Sakamoto both have genuine personalities and quirks that allow you to actually connect with them.

Art (10/10)
What can i even say here. The fight scenes and the choreography is just beyond amazing. All of the actions, the hand to hand combat, the weapons: they flow well together and really give you a great perspective on the scene unfolding. Yuto Suzuki does an amazing job in every chapter of caring for even the smallest of details, the blood on the clothes, the people in the backdrop and even the way they portray the changes in the environment while fighting rages on is just extremely well done. OH and dont even get me started on the clothing choices cuz the drips are so unbelieving immaculate especially my girl Lu, you might just have to copy a few outfits from this manga, they are criminally good.

Nitpicks:
Now now, this is still a review and as much as I want to glaze this manga, it still has a few things that I didnt enjoy as much. During the initial stages of the manga, It felt like Suzuki didnt fully know the direction they were going to take with some of the characters like The Order for example. To avoid spoiling much, their initial appearances were quite different from how they were shown later but I can definitely understand if there were changes made to the story. ALSO why is Lu not getting more screentime :(, shes basically just disappeared from the manga despite being such a cool character and Ik alot of people have the same criticism.

Another shonen flop with a protagonist that can't die. Mega plot armored. doesn't matter what the bad guys throw at him, he will always counter them with some really stupid plot convinced device.

Cant believe people actually like this and give it an 8. It deserves a 2, and I'm being humble.

Its a sad anime copying john wick but in a corny and edgy way. You cant take seriously an anime where the prota can stop a bullet with a little ball he spited from his mouth. so dumb.
Another thing is that sakamoto is a carbon copy of Anzai Mitsuyoshi from slamdunk. omg..they didnt even ...
