So, ten chapters in, and nobody gave Koukousei Kazoku a proper review here on MAL? Well then, guess I'll do it, cuz i think it's really a great series and should be praised a little more than a "Fine" metascore.
So, Let's start with the story, as it's the first in partial ratings. Not much to say there cause it's a gag manga with no particular plot, but i can tell you that almost every chapter is really wholesome pack of heartwarming and absurd character interactions. Overall 8/10 for really well mixed wholesome absurdity
Second comes the art: It's pretty simple, but the almost childish

I absolutely adore this manga. This new wave of comedies from JUMP have been amazing and I think this should be rated way higher. Its so fucking funny while being charming at the same time. I usually hate 2nd hand embarrassment tropes but the way that the other students come to love the mc's family makes it wholesome instead of painful.
To some the art may be odd, but I find it charming and adds to the comedy. Especially Gomez the cat, who looks terrifying at times and barely resembles a cat. Overall, this manga is hilarious and I definitely recommend. Feb 22, 2023
It starts off as a one-shot goof that's not out of place in a Far Side comic, with pretty rough art, then gets comfortable with its concept and flourishes into a pretty funny and heartfelt gag manga. I enjoyed the little storylines for each of the family members (even the cat!) that were fun mini-arcs from week to week. The art got better along the way as well, so my main complaint vanished!
Then...it ended more abruptly than I've ever seen a series of this length cease. Basically zero setup for the final chapter as it skips a year and a half into the future! No ... Dec 8, 2020
This is a gag comic through and through, and while not on the level of Gintama or Saiki K (in my opinion) it's a funny read that passes the time.
Basically the main character, Kotaro Ietani, goes to high school and his whole family tags along. Even the cat. Each of their family members have a cliche to them (father is the one with the sad backstory and is really good at volleyball, sister is a 5 year old genius, etc.) and make for some interesting interactions with other classmates at the school. In the midst of his oddball family, Kotaro wants to have a ... Mar 7, 2022
At the beggining I thought this manga was very cringy and not funny, but after reading 10 chapters I was unable to stop reading. I think my brain is damaged now. But now I dig this manga, I'm currently in the chapter 20 and I want to read more of this bizzare story. I hope this get an anime adaptaion, but it'll probably janky animation.
By the way, Dad is the best girl(The mom is hotter thou). Update: I've read +100 chapters, I think I'm suffering from stockholm syndrome or severe brain damage at this point. PS: The Dad is still the best girl and the mom is ... Mar 26, 2023
- Overall (6/10):
High School Family is definitely a hidden gem if you are searching for a good slice-of-life comedy. Yes, if you see the overall points of 6/10, you may not believe me, but even with its flaws it is way more complex and funny than you think at first look… Just like I made this mistake at the beginning! So give it a chance! But before that, let’s talk about the details. - Story (6/10): What is High School Family anyway? A boy starts to go to high school. Very basic, nothing special. But this time, his whole family, his 40+ years old Dad and Mom, his ... |
