This is a gag comic through and through, and while not on the level of Gintama or Saiki K (in my opinion) it's a funny read that passes the time.

Basically the main character, Kotaro Ietani, goes to high school and his whole family tags along. Even the cat. Each of their family members have a cliche to them (father is the one with the sad backstory and is really good at volleyball, sister is a 5 year old genius, etc.) and make for some interesting interactions with other classmates at the school.

In the midst of his oddball family, Kotaro wants to have a ... normal high school life, but it doesn't seem like he'll be getting that any time soon. The rest of the school has more or less gotten used to the 40 year old salaryman sitting in the back of their geometry classes though, so we'll see how this pans out.

Sakamoto Days, so far, is about a man who once stood at the peak of the assassination world, only to suddenly disappear and never be found again. One of his followers goes on a hunt to purge him, because once you've left the world of assassins, you must be silenced.

Of course, the greatest assassin in the world isn't going without a fight. And so on so forth. The manga continues in the lighthearted tone that has the underlying message of 'Life being valuable and important' that juxtaposes Sakamoto's previous career.

All in all, it's a quick read (since there are only 3 chapters right now ... lol) that doesn't have a heavy tone that will most likely go down the route of [bad guy appearing] > [sakamoto fights] > [sakamoto wins] > [sakamoto's wife gets angry and peaceful life resumes] > repeat.

I was drawn in by the art, like I am for most of the shorter mangas I read. This art reminded me strongly of the Studio Ghibli artstyle--simple to the eye, but detailed enough to hear the background noises.

The writing in this series is very floaty in the sense that while ten or so plot lines are opened, only one is officially solved. The other plot lines are resolved subtly or in ways where the audience feels half-satisfied with the way things turned out. This idea applies to the first and third story the most, while the second story is a melancholy oneshot.

I ... don't think reading this would result in absolute hatred unless the reader desires truly satisfying endings, but you probably won't be satiated reading this because of how open-ended each of the stories are.

Well, enjoy either way whatever your choice is!

I was drawn in by the art-style and stayed because I wanted to know what ended up happening in the end. It's a short read, so if you choose to read it and hate it not too much time out of your life will have been wasted.

I can't write much without spoiling it, especially since it is only 9 chapters but it does have a unique concept and sticks to it fairly well throughout the short series. Thinking back after knowing the full story I think the author did a good job of keeping to the original intent of the storyline without leaving the readers ... too unsatisfied...

Maybe you should just read it so you know what I'm talking about, lol.

I dropped the first season of Haikyu!! because I couldn't deal with how intense it got, and a few years later I went back to try again. The second time, I binged the first and second season in one day and pulled an all-nighter simply because I couldn't stop watching.

I truly believe that Haikyu!! is different from other sports anime (I haven't watched Kuroko No Basuke though so) in that through their matches, training, and casual down time we get to see more of the players' personality shine than in other shows. There is quite the wide cast but the audience is given time ... to acclimate to them and grow to love those characters as well (i.e. the tournaments with Nekoma and the other schools started with Nekoma, and only on the third trip did Karasuno start to make friendly contact via personal training with the other team through Bokuto).

Haikyu!! doesn't throw any of their characters away once they are done building them which makes for a stronger foundation, especially in a sports anime where knowing your team is everything. As the audience, we are also allowed to feel as if we know the team and that makes it all the better.

I enjoy watching sports anime because I like watching the characters get riled up and try hard, but I've always watched sports anime from an outsider's perspective as well. Haikyu!! effectively made me feel that the characters were so real that I really didn't want them to lose, to the point I would stop watching the first season.

In addition, the characters have foils that show to the audience that their physical prowess isn't normal. The anime shows that nervousness and running away are very real things that other team members have done, but that doesn't make it any less real for them. Because of this element, I feel like the producers drew a contrast between the audience and the main characters that allowed them to sympathize and empathize with the main cast but also understand that they aren't OP or anything--they just try really hard.

I thought the character development was decent because there's obvious change and the author incorporated scenarios that would highlight that development which was nice. Overall, it was a good manga to read if you're looking for something easy and light that packs cute scenes, emotions, and good ol' camaraderie/rivalries.

One thing I thought this manga did a good job at was actually showing what the leads liked about one another; it was clear and it seemed more thought-out than other mangas I've seen. But I had pretty serious second-lead syndrome with this one as well...
