Aqua is one of those manga that is very calming and relaxing to read, and could be categorized as "slice-of-life", as the story is mostly just Akari living her life and trying to become a full-fledged undine.

Story 10/10

Though too much isn't going on in the plot, and may I say action-lovers would be quite let down, Aqua gives a very charming story. The pace is very slow, and allows you to really get into the world of Aqua. Aqua is the planet Mars after terraforming, and the city we mostly see is nearly a repicla of Venice. Akari, our main character and narrator of the ...

Akari Mizunashi is traveling to Aqua (Mars) from Manhome (Earth) to become an undine, one of the famous female gondoliers of Neo-Venezia (a replica of Venice). Akari knows nothing about Mars, which is now called Aqua since terraforming released tremendous amounts of water that now cover 90% of the surface. She also knows next to nothing about undines, only that she wants to be one. Slowly, day by day, she meets all kinds of new people and practices hard to become a good undine and adapts to the slow ...

Aqua is one of those manga that can be read without worrying about having violence or anything creepy in it. It's a very slow-paced, relaxing manga to read. If anyone is into action or fast-paced manga, then Aqua will not be your type of manga, and you’ll more likely going to drop it once you begin to read this short manga. Compare to the anime, there are indeed some differences. But the relaxing feeling is still mostly the same.

Story:
This manga is unique in my opinion, as most other slice of life mangas I’ve heard of are mostly taking place in a setting just like in ...

Aqua is a great manga that takes place in literally a new world. It would be a good choice for people that wish to visit Italy, expecially Venice in particular.

STORY~

I gave this story a 10 for a couple reasons. The first reason is because I really thought it had a unique plot. It's not often that you find a manga taking place on Mars (now called "Aqua" after 150 years of terraforming) in a city called Neo-Venezia, a replica of "Manhome's" (earth) city of Venice. It follows Akari Mizunashi, who is a teen girl coming from Manhome to find a job as an undine in ...

A very short manga (only two volumes), but this is definitely one of the best I’ve ever read. It’s got the same sort of appeal that K-On! has, that laid-back feeling where you’re not really following a story or anything, you’re just enjoying what’s in front of you at a leisurely pace. Aqua introduces a science fiction future where the ice caps on Mars melt and cover almost the entire planet in water. What’s left was terraformed heavily, and most of the cities have extensive canal systems (à la Venice, Italy). This, in my opinion, is the strongest point of the manga – a very ...

Nostalgic. Soothing. Poetic.

How about becoming a gondolier on Mars? Even though this may seem absurd at first glance, this is the foundation of a classic of the iyashikei genre.

To give you a bit of context, I was pretty late reading Aqua, as I had already enjoyed its sequel Aria and Amano's newer work Amanchu, both as manga and anime. So I was definitely not a newcomer and knew what to expect.

Mizunashi Akari, the main character, is a young Japanese girl from the 24th century. She dreams of becoming an Undine. What is an Undine? A female gondolier working in New Venice on Aqua, a future ...

The organic world of Aqua originated by Kozue Amano receives one and all to be raised in an environment calming for the hasty, cozy for the weary, and optimistically-molding and expansive for the tunnel-visioned, where we can learn to set our eyes of the heart on finding gems around our steps, thereupon each little treasure should be efforted to be crafted into self-sustaining sources of happiness.

To find sources of joy wherever we go and to cherish every fleeting moment in order to build up our kinship to the positive and resistance to sadness is clearly a prevailing wisdom guiding us as we step out of ...

Probably better known under the name of it’s sequel, Aria. Aqua is usually held as a pillar of Slice of Life and Iyashikei with some Utopia to boot. I have yet to break into Aria, but let’s look at how the two volumes known as Aqua fares. Let’s Rock.

PLOT: or lack thereof. Taking place in 2031, the planet Mars has become covered in water and renamed to Aqua. Our tale takes place in the city of Neo Venezia, a city of water and boats. Our protagonist Akari arrives from earth to seek a job as a gondolier tour guide known as an Undine. The series ...
