Ecstasy. KomoKuni and Soda Water of August both follow this time of nothing but peace and happiness. Although KomoKuni is much more intimate with the theme, using friendship outings in the industrial revolution era, August Soda Water conveys this with a childlike viewpoint on Cape of Suiyo, a time of seeking and understanding the basics of the world around. Both are wonderful reads that don't take too much time to go through. They both happen to have colour too.

Euphoria. Yuru Yuru and Soda Water of August both follow this fanciful but healing bliss consistently present in its air. Yuru Yuru does this with a trio of high school girls, in their leisure time. Soda Water of August does this with young girl Lisa Umibe spending her time exploring things Both are non-monochrome manga, fast to read too, with lots of colours to alleviate their euphoria.

Youth exploration. A time when the young ones build upon what is the foundation of our world, to reach the apex of the system of things via a slow learning process. Yotsuba&! and August Soda Water use such a ground to convey a seemingly wonderful story. August Soda Water is much more intimate with the learning, which is expanded on with supernatural elements, compared to Yotsuba&! dual with the learning and comedy it uses. Though in both cases, they are good reads, for the most part, Yotsuba&! not being as fast as the 1 hour read that is August Soda Water.

Both manga are about a little girl who lives a carefree life, and explores the expansive and surreal world around her. Soda Waters of August explores the whimsical and wondrous with a full-color children's-book style, while Ashizuri Suizokukan is more about bizarre happenings and has a more abstract and sketchy style. Example: August's walking lighthouse, and Ashizuri's shopping errand to Russia.
