I actually like this manga. I enjoy reading every chapter until it's finished.

First, let's start from the story. The story isn't something unique, instead it's just your generic romcom high school setting. Oe thing that separates this manga with other romcom was how straightforward and fast they progressed. The execution is pretty good overall, and I like how 'loud' the joke too. but of course, since jokes is pretty subjective, it's not always for everyone.

Tired of generic romcoms? Looking for a lighthearted, fun read? Let me introduce you to Do Chokkyuu Kareshi x Kanojo.

Right after I read the omake, I was confused, bemused, and intrigued - all at the same time. Many romance mangas seem very surreal, and this is sometimes the main appeal of a story. After all, when was the last time you saw a normal high schooler walking around with a harem? Many manga have walked the path of self-fulfillment, doing whatever they want to an emotionless, flawless, dense ... mc.

This manga is different. It's down to earth, straightforward, funny, and you're bound to have a great time with it, just like the two main characters.

Honda and Wakamiya are two high schoolers who become acquainted in a variety of strange situations involving porn mags and hairy caterpillars. Nonetheless, they strike up an odd friendship, and Wakamiya develops a crush on Honda. They decide to start out as friends and eventually, Honda reciprocates Wakamiya's feelings.

This all seems very cliché, until you realize that both Honda and Wakamiya are... interesting, to say the least. It's a little hard to put them into words, simply because of how over-the-top their characters are. Neither is perfect, and they struggle to overcome their flaws together.

Unlike your average pussy protagonist, Honda is a MANLY MAN who has a knack of rejecting girls because he would rather refuse them honestly than date them half-heartedly. He puts others' wellbeing before his own and isn't afraid to speak his mind, such as when he readily admits to carrying porn and yells about wanting to have sex. He screams a lot and works out often. Unsurprisingly, he's a fun and straightforward character.

Wakamiya acts tough but slowly caves in to Honda's persistence. Since this is her first experience with love, she misinterprets and then outright denies her own feelings. Once she learns to accept them, they eventually get together, though Wakamiya still has her own share of troubles - but she isn't afraid to work hard to overcome them, and she has Honda on her side.

Honda is the type of person who barrels through all obstacles, while Wakamiya is usually dragged along with him, and this dynamic is fun to watch.

A lot of the charm in this manga comes from the side characters, who are just as quirky as the main two: Honda's porn-loving fellow men of culture, Wakamiya's lighthearted go-to friend for love advice, a hentai-author temple owner, the flat-chested princess of the school, a sadistic boy who gets lost on the beach, Wakamiya's softhearted sister and her own love story (fucking kawaii), the Team Rocket-esque public morals committee, etc.

The art design fits really well. The drawings are a little rough around the edges, but a lot of the humor in the story comes from the ridiculous expressions and excessive energy that the two main characters display frequently. Thus the comedy relies greatly on the expressive art, which you really have to experience in order to make a judgement about. Personally, I find it extremely entertaining.

I recommend it to anyone who enjoys over-the-top humor.

This is such a refreshing take on the High school love story trope in manga, it bypasses the needlessly long and tedious dance of a first kiss and brings romance comedies into mature and adult realms of reality with a renewed take on what real upfront honesty can do and influence those around you.

They say honesty is the best policy but most like to either hide their intentions or sugar coat them in order to adhere to some weak or fake form of "unspoken rules" in society.

This manga was... interesting, to say the least.

It was a breath of fresh air compared to many other series, but at the same time hindered by the random plot turns and an abrupt ending, that while was good, is definitely giving the feeling as if the series was axed.

It was nice being able to see a rather quick romance progression, with them going further than most romance manga in their relationship goals.

Do you know that feeling, when your friend keeps saying the same joke over and over again? You know it might have been a bit funny at the start but overtime you come to hate it. This is pretty much this manga.

The manga is based on one thing, a guy who is so straight forward and loud. He says whatever is on his mind with no regards of how to act. I am not a great fan of middle-school set mangas, and I really do not like stupid teenage comedies (despite having a 9 in Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai). Even in this case, I think the story is your average "I love you even if I know you from a week" and the main male character is the "yeah I'm a dumb guy that is such a nice dude with everyone and will love the main female character because she is as nice as I am", and the same with the girl. She is a big breasted teenager that likes him because of plot, I think.

Despite those ... big flaws... I think Do Chokkyu Kareshi x Kanojo (abbreviated, DoChoKa, or smh) is fucking hilarious and funny. I mean, japanese humour is not for everyone, and this comedy / romance / shonen has everything the popular mangas nowadays have, but well done (not masterfully created but interesting and engaging).

We have Wakamiya Mako, a girl that is in charge of "keeping to line" the lustful boys that, after the exam period, try to "satisfy" themselves with some "inappropiate" material (basically porn mangas, hentais and magazines of mature content). Also, we have Shinichi Honda, a guy who practices Kendo and is the most sincere guy on Earth. He is always asked by any girl to have a date, but he answers a resounding "NO" because he does not know enough about her. For some reasons I won't spoil here, Mako falls in love for Honda and she tries her best to make it reciprocal.

Art is not excellent (I consider excellent some mangas like Berserk / Vagabond / Slam Dunk), but it does not make it unreadable, even if it is a little bit too generic for its own good. It looks like the usual ecchi art, with oversexualized girls and ugly looking boys except for the MC and other guy. I am not saying this art is BAD, I am not asking for some Yasuhisa Hara drawing right here, for me it is generically bland but I have to say it fits perfectly for the aura this manga has.

Character creation is, again, a generic mix of teenager stereotypes that would fit in any ecchi / shounen / highschool anime ever. The male MC fells over female MC and grabs her boobs, loving them instantly. Wow, great argument to create a relationship. It is actually enjoyable watch them develop but it is way too annoying to see the same shit over and over again.

Despite the criticism, I enjoyed this manga and I am looking forward to read it. Where I live, scans haven't reach english release yet, but fansubs are doing their best for taking this to the public. So, if you are expecting a high developed romantic story like Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai, do not expect this to be similar, but if you actually want to read some light plot manga with ecchi, tons of fanservice and a great comedy potential, please enjoy Do Chokkyuu Kareshi x Kanojo.

Do Chokkyuu Kareshi x Kanojo is a rollercoaster ride I'll never forget. From the advancement of the main relationship to the introduction of Mako's sister's little crush, I loved this for all its glory.

The sex jokes are absolutely funny. As someone who's already gotten tired of kiddie sex jokes, the jokes made in here are absolutely immaculate. Props to the author for blessing us with such throat killing humor.

TL;DR: I love this so much. The only complaint I really have is the time skips at the end. I honestly and hoping for a sequel and/or spin-off.

I don't really have much enjoyment of loud people, but this level of comedy is amazing. Everything about it is hilarious. Reading it there is constantly things that are very "meme-able". Finally a romantic story that doesnt cock tease me non-stop with the same jokes and cliches until i grow numb to it all because the romantic relationship is moving slower than a sinked ship.

The character personalities are over exaggerated to be over the top personalities, but the author still made them down to earth enough that they could be realistic human characters. As the first manga review that I’ve written for this profile, I was surprised to find that Do Chokyuu Kareshi x Kanojo was so short, but so sweet.

It’s rather impressive that in this day and age, we have manga that want to end on the short, but sweet note, instead of just continuing for years on end with more questions than answers. Overall a good manga defintley, however I really feel it gets stale after 10 chapters or so. Maybe it's just me but I really have no care for either of the leads, they can be funny and have some nice moments but it just kinda feels like going through the motions I suppose, just really lost my interest quite quickly.
