Before the events that took place in the well-known anime “Bubblegum Crisis” comes a short form OVA in three episodes titled “A.D. Police”.
As someone that has seen this OVA last year, this mecha police, drama filled anime is what one would expect from the lifestyle of what Neo Tokyo has turned into. When it comes to the ficitional events that took place in the year of 2027, the relationship that surrounds Leon and Knight Saber was one that left me with both intrigue and unique flows of romance being shown in an area that looks bleak and left with many questions.
Having to deal with the
...
enemy known as Boomers (ironic enough in this day and age), to even having to deal with the battle brewing Normal Police and AD Police as well as the arcs surrounding Paradise Loop and Billy being turned into a cyborg, the interesting thing about this OVA is that a short formed anime like this really sets the stage for what “Bubblegum Crisis” would end up turning into. The best parts about this show what happens humans grapple with the idea of what it will be like when they get replaced with the ongoing threats apof robots being controlled with AI technology that is also in the hands of the elites that destruct the idea of having real authorities helping and protect the public.
If anything, seeing Leon’s early character arc in this one really showed me how much there was a time when character progression really mattered in a way where the supporting characters can also shine as much as the main characters when figuring out their flaws and insecurities when struggling to do the right thing. Overall, A.D. Police Files was a joy, but gut-wrenching thing to witness for its time.

The interesting thing about Nourin is that while it is a very good anime, the review in question makes me wish that it was rated higher. Either way, for an anime about farming, it still is a great one to behold.
Nourin deals with the story about how Kosuke wishes he could the idol Yuka while still doing his role at maintaining crops and agriculture at Tamo Agriculture School. His wish then gets granted, only this time it’s Yuka now deciding that she wants to be a farmer while keeping her idol status somewhat as a secret. Kosaku tries his hardest to figure out why she
...
chose his school to want to learn more about her, as his friends Minori and Kei try their best to help their friend in many ways they can.
There’s a lot of subplots and gags that come from these characters that drive the humor and attempt to move the plot forward. However, I did notice that in the last few episodes that while it did it’s best to maintain some cool attempts at drama from looking into Minori’s family life as a farmer, it did seem to make me wish that there was a second season to better maintain the friendship and possible romantic relationships that could abound once everyone knew why they met each other. (Kei and Kochō are the perfect example of this, while Minori and Ringo a.k.a Yuka are still fighting over Kosaku only for the main character to still hilariously remain clueless).
Either way, this anime is still good on its on terms, but I do wish there was more story to tell after this season. The saving grace that I can at least accept is that Becky was a hilarious character that really shined throughout most of the anime, even though it’s through a sad attempt at realizing that no one wants to date damaged goods like her. If anything, I think that’s one of Nourin’s best hidden secrets as far as dark humor goes.

Without question, Gabriel Dropout was one of the best comedic anime to have come out back in 2017.
The idea of angels and devils coexisting in a school like this is not new, but the humor for this was not just clever, but the wit surrounding the characters were some of the best that I’ve seen from the main troupe of Gabriel, Vigne, Satania and Raphael. The first half of the anime had Gabriel turning into a trustworthy angelic girl that likes to do good deeds into a NEET that does not care much for schooling while having Vigne acting like the good devil that is
...
not really a devil.
Satania drives it home with trying too hard to act like a devil only to fall flat on her face while trying to devilish things. Raphael, on the other hand, looks like an angel but is clearly shown to have underhanded tactics (except when she is found out to a fear of frogs). A comedic show like this with twists that one could somewhat expect as well as have surprises that change the dynamic as to how the characters operate next to one another is something that makes comedic anime comedic.
Gabriel Dropout also shows the impact as to how Gabriel’s NEETdom can effect her abilities on wanting to be a good angel when it’s convenient to her, and how dealing with friends can slowly change the way how she interacts with others when it comes to not wanting to work too hard for wanting to look good in front of others for the sake of it. Either way, this anime was a true good one for 2017, and it still holds up as well when one watches the OVA.

Ero-manga Sensei was the one anime where most will be surprised by how much the anime is good from not just lurking at the time and giving it up in just the first few episodes.
It helps that the events that most of the anime’s workings is based on what Oreimo one of the most talked about anime(s) so much, whether people loved it or hated it. In the case, the character progression seen in the little sister and big brother in this case is partially due to the fact that the brother is a light novel author and the sister is a ero artist who
...
managed to get the skills from her sister. Even though both of their families are different, what brings them together is the fact that his brother wants her to come out of her shell, while she wants to make art without having to user her brother as the base for her fantasy drawings.
Either way, most of the story has some good supporting characters from the competitive light novel authors like Elf and Muramasa, and because of it, it brings foils between them and Sagiri and Masamune in the process. The only downside is that most of the romance that bubbles between Masamune and the light novel authors makes it hard to see which one would most be compatible to him, even though he clearly cares for Sagiri’s well being (not just because he is her sister, of course). The anime showed more of them trying to create more romance subplots between them, but the idea clearly shows that he cares for his stories because of how much he views Sagiri as family, even though he does deliver connections between all three of them in the process. Overall, this is an okay anime and at times it is memorable, but I do wish they’d handled the romance in a more intriguing way that does not always make Sagiri look left out. Though, I guess the OVA episodes really do help bring closure of how unique the anime is in general.

Chio’s School Road was legitimately one of the best school life, comedy based anime that I’ve seen in the last year alone. The manga itself also holds its own when it comes to keeping up with the slapstick, zany humor and overall funny moments of what it is like to have a great walk towards school.
Supporting characters really sold on the anime as well, from the former bike gang leader who now acts like a subordinate to Chio after being known as the Bloody Butterfly to playing kabbadi with Madoka who is only using it as an excuse to see inside the skirt of Chio’s
...
friend Yuki. Most of the interactions that Chio has, along with special little side stories that involve Manana, Momo and Chiori also have the blessing of actually not just making the entire anime about her, since it helps fuel the outside influences that make the trip towards school exciting and also bizarre at the same time.
As said before, the humor and unique attempts at trying parkour really show how much effort and care was being put into making this anime into what it is — a special normal day about what happens when a special normal girl walks from her home to school. If anything, I stand by the fact that this is the best slice of life anime that uses the school life trope to make it more adventurous and never tries to fool the audience into thinking it’s some abstract concept that it hard to understand. Overall, this is honestly one of the best anime I’ve seen in years, and a bonus even goes for the voice acting and bloopers at the end of the series that shows the amount of care and hilarity that goes while they’re trying to show how the series came together even while staying in character. It’s a pretty nice way to end it and it really makes me wish we had another season.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch is given its choice as to why it is considered by some to be the best anime of 2006.
The unique thing about this particular anime is that it also happened to be in the same timeline as Death Note and Gurren Lagann. These three anime represented what was really popular in the medium — suspense, action, choices, intriguing dialogue and heroes/anti-heroes/foils.
Geass has the power to figure out why war, discrimination, hierarchies and alter egos are the reason as to how people can change so much with how they are dealt in society of today. Lelouch and Suzuka are two people
...
that end up changing the way how they perceive each other through the calm and fiery approaches with their respective alliances — The Dark Knights and Britannia.
Supporting characters like Kallen, Cornelia and Euphemia help, while also hurt, both of their characters through how much they use/or get used to wanting to do the right thing and/or thinking if the right thing is applicable to modern society with how much is being used to control power and action through self-restraint and willpower.
Even the constrast between C.C. and Nunnally show from trying to figure out how much loved ones matter to you, and how much they love to hurt you when making it possible to think you are doing with love by hurting other people. The episodes with Shirley and Lelouch turned into Zero show a dark contrast and incredible duality of man on Lelouch’s part, as it breaks down how much compassion and strength you have for other people.
Most of this anime series is just proof that the world operates on how much sacrifice and how much pain one will be willing to risk to care for the side that shows them how much they want to protect the ones that they love the most. It’s no surprise that even with the chess moves, this anime series while being absurdly over the top in certain areas, hits really home for people wanting to wonder what that cliffhanger between those two former friends was like at the end of the anime’s first season. In the end, Geass is proof that while we do have choices, we also have the power to choose which one matters to us the most and hope that we did make the right decision.

Anyone who claimed that M.D. Geist was the most embarrassing and ridiculous thing to watch clearly is either lying or just outright not watching it for what it really is.
M.D. Geist is proof of what anime in the 1980’s represented, regarding as to how the art, visuals and story intertwined with giving a story as to what space opera and action scenes are like. In the beginning of most vintage anime fans, most have written this series off as if it just corny, too “macho” or just barely watchable because the plot does not simply make sense. (To be fair, most would be remised
...
if they started watching this for the first time with seeing other anime that look like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star or Berserk.)
Still, M.D. Geist was pretty much what Mad Max was trying to emulate through sheer fashion and rough violence themes that have technically paved the way for more of those series to reinvent and try new things. One of the things that can be praised for M.D. is the fact that these civil war storylines are still entertaining in the way in which it not only did not take itself too seriously, but it did it in a way by no trying to insult the audience for just wanting to have a good time in trying to enjoy it for what this anime is really about — fighting for your life while being imprisoned on a satellite and being the most dangerous ever while looking good at it.

As the first manga review that I’ve written for this profile, I was surprised to find that Do Chokyuu Kareshi x Kanojo was so short, but so sweet.
It’s rather impressive that in this day and age, we have manga that want to end on the short, but sweet note, instead of just continuing for years on end with more questions than answers. This manga in particular was just a handful of school romance rekated reads that kept me entertained and engaged, even while the story was progressing into romance material.
Both characters seem the same, yet they act totally opposite from one another (if you count
...
getting over excited and prepared for kendo to be something worth living for). The love and pain that they have for another, even while initially the female lead was more suspicious of him than anything else since she was in the Student Council, the male character was one of the best written characters I’ve seen in a shounen related manga in a while.
On one hand, it could have been nice to see if this could be adapted as an anime, but I think it might be for the best — the exaggerated, yelling, straightforwardness, comical facial expressions, fourth wall breaks, and the unforgettable ending as to how their romance would play out — I think it would be too much for readers and anime watchers to handle.
Either way, I’m not complaining. As far as 2022 goes, finishing this one up was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made so far. This one deserves the “Very Good” score, without a doubt.

While this was almost close to a 10 score, the main character was also close to trying to kill himself. This alone stopped it’s way from having a perfect score.
In all seriousness Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is the perfect underrated (though, at times underappreciated) comedy that balances the darkness and absurdity in ways that made for the best entertaining comedy I’ve seen from an anime perspective. The mental acuity in trying to keep up with most of the satirical jabs regarding Japanese school, work and home life were very unique and done in a way where both the main and supporting characters shined in ways in
...
which I did not think were possible.
Most people might shy away from anime like this due to its absurdist humor, but if anything, I have to say they’d be doing themselves a disservice for skipping on this. Most of the episodes that take place outside the classroom, to most episodes having to deal with making hard choices like evading responsibility and trying to follow the “right’ or “original” way, are the reason why something that was made in the mid to late 00’s deserves a nomination of the best anime for the 2000’s for sure.
With the exception of Nichijou and the Monogatari series, it will be a while until we get a comedic anime that can almost hit all the levels of what comedy is supposed to be. Though, if there ever was a rebooted version of this, I hope the main character doesn’t get too hurt trying to not self harm himself while trying to figure out the meaning on why he should continue wanting to live his own life while actually being alive (instead of trying to desperately find a way to end it).

If there was a word to describe Mad Bull 34’s creation, it would be “gritty”. It would also be foolish to not say that as far as early 90’s anime go, it set the standard as to what Police anime (with exception to A.D. Police, Goku Midnight Eye and You’re Under Arrest! which would come years later in that era) could do.
The first time watching Mad Bull 34, you’re immediately struck as to how much NYC is nailed on the detail aspect, where everything from the Red Light District to grand larceny to even homicide and street gangs run amok. The fact that we have
...
a main character who’s been sent from Tokyo’s police division to team up with NY’s rough and tough detective makes the buddy cop aspect look even more interesting to see. Considering that the 90’s managed to make buddy cop comedies more silly than actually serious, it was nice to see the aspect of Kazuo Koike’s work being used in the way that was intended. (You’ll notice that this was where Lupin shined in this aspect, and for good reason.)
The downside of this anime, though not much of a dealbreaker, is that this anime was far too short for just four episodes. On one hand, it’s a blessing that this did not get any more episodes or create a couple of movies based on this classic anime, but on the other hand, it would have been interesting to see the cinematic version in full play as the full blown violence would have been the foil to a more philosophical discussion as to how trying to work and deal with the forces of good and bad can make a 90’s version of the city of New York shine.
Either way, Daizaburo and Sleepy represent the best examples of Good Cop, Bad Cop working together, in what could be the best hyper exaggerated and entertaining OVA regarding police anime. Even for its time, it still holds up very well.
