A heavy and thoughtful adventure into a seemingly mundane topic. The story follows the MC, an Ethics teacher, as he attempts to teach his class about the topic while at the same time following his own code of ethics as best as possible. The topics mentioned vary from very dark to very mundane but each chapter introduces us to another new idea.

Story: 8
Quite enjoyable if you like somewhat philosophical work. Some chapters can seem heavy-handed or hamfisted but never boring.

Art: 10
The artist does a fantastic job with detailed pages (and teach's turtleneck) and exaggerated, human expressions. Characters ... are distinct with their own quirks and styles.

Character: 8
The characters are quite interesting in their own way, expressing themselves through different speaking patterns and mannerisms. It's too early to see how they'll develop, but I believe the author won't let us down.

Overall: 9
Definitely a unique little manga to try. Don't pick it up if you're looking for a school comedy or cutesy slice of life. Don't even expect to agree with the author/MC's opinion on all of these topics. But if you want an exciting journey into ETHICS, there's only one place.

koko wa ima kara rinri desu is the kind of manga you read and gain iq cells from, for a change.

the main character, takayanagi, acts as a teacher towards the reader just as much as he is one with his pupils. through him, the author expresses various ideas within the field of ethics, in a manner which prevents the reader from feeling as if the authors opinions are being forced on them. this element of koko wa ima kara rinri desu could easily be considered what makes the manga shine. depth is common in many stories, but this is one of the few where said ... depth is so bluntly pointed out.

another strong aspect of the manga is the characters. takayanagi is hard to dislike - i think everyone wishes they could have had a teacher like him in school - and he is not without his flaws, preventing him from coming off as a 'gary stu'. similarily, the students are not overly complex characters, yet, nonetheless, their stories are not as typical as might have been expected. to summarise: the characters are catalysts for the author to explore a variety of ethical and philosophical questions, and they fulfill their purpose well.

in regards to the story, well, there isn't much of one. at the time of writing, the manga is very much episodical - with a variety of subplots linking the chapters together - but i have no doubts that, over time, this manga will grow to have a clearer focus of what it's setting out to do.

the art's also not the best, but not the worst either. there's a strange contrast between the usually well drawn takayanagi (though he does have a weird pose that repeats through chapters) and the students, which have their individual characteristics but are otherwise not drawn with much depth. one could argue this is a conscious choice by the author, and the art had no impact on my enjoyment of this manga, and so there's no reason to penalise koko wa ima kara rinri desu based off the art.

overall: a strong individual manga - recommendable to anyone interested in philosophical matters, whether or not they have any prior knowledge of them - with a lot of potential, which i look forward to it fulfilling

There is one thing I don't like about this manga. It's freaking amazing, BUT... The female character always seem to be falling in love or be involved in s3x topics. Idk if it's just me, but if you compare men to female topics in this manga you can see that the men character's topics are more various.
Of course I don't say that girls don't have any different topics
But overall I really like this manga, because it forces you to think about your life and life in general
Also the art style is fun to look at

Koko wa Ima kara Rinri desu. Reading it is quite the unique experience. The manga intelligently makes you go through various concepts of ETHICS by approaching different problems students have.

Story:
If I had to use one adjective to fit this story with, it would be respectful. The main character, the pace, the topics discussed in the story, everything is treated with respect. The story and characters engage in reflections on various ETHICAL topics without being judged from the start, and the story tries to find its solutions respecting individuals and beliefs.
As a negative point, tts structure might be not the best for certain topics. The ... manga handles some very hard and complex problems, and sometimes seems to give them a solution too quickly. But it doesn't go in the way of what the manga wants you to do, and that is engaging a dialogue within yourself, make the reader think about ETHICS.

Art:
The manga sticks to its unique style. The art manages to show emotions in a really nice way, exagerating sometimes but without being excessively heavy.

Characters:
Probably one of the best point about this work. There are quite a few characters introduced in the story, none of them feel like forced characters put to support a story element. They are given enough background to enter the discussion about their problems, and I'm sure quite a few of us got attached to some of them quite quickly.


I fully recommend this manga, if you enjoy thinking.

Hands down the most surprising manga I have read ever. This manga rotates around a teacher who teaches ethics, and tries his best to follow his own code of ethics.

This manga follows an episodic format, with each chapter or two (maybe three) focusing on a new student, with their varying perspective of Takayanagi the ethics teacher. Each student has their own varying problem, and Takayanagi trying his best to help them out in any way.

What is exceptional about this manga are the philosophical messages and questions that are embedded throughout throughout the manga.

One of the main questions being asked that I like ... (as an inner conflict of the main character) was professionalism vs emotional support. Is it ethical to go beyond the boundaries of a teacher and give a student special treatment because of their situation? If so, will you give all the other students the same special treatment too? If such treatment is ethical, how far can you go until it’s considered “unethical.”

Subsequently, because of said conflict and his altruistic nature, Takayanagi is an exceptionally written main character. He embodies what a teacher should be, treating everyone with respect while being capable of emotion himself. He isn’t pretentious and is humanized unlike other mentors, and is slowly learning the limits of balancing the line between being an emotional guide and being a professor.

The one thing I did dislike about this manga however, was the lack of intricacy of the side characters. This is mainly due to the fact that the manga follows an episodic format, so side characters rarely get much appearances throughout the manga.

If it wasn’t episodic it may have the potential of a 10/10

But for now it’s a solid 9/10

Well, I know that the first chapter can be a little uncomfortable for some people, but ...
Believe me, with focus and accepting that all of this can really happen in real life, when someone needs your help you will know what to do (not exactly what to do ... it's a story, but the fundamentals it brings help).
Seriously, some situations seem so real (the only surreal thing in this story is so many problematic people in the same environment, although each of us has our own problems, it's funny to think that the ethics class brought together such incredible people). Hahaha, humor ⚆ _ ⚆

See, I’m not addicted to reading, but I’m a good reader, if I don’t understand, I’ll read it again, and I tell you, this is definitely one of the most enjoyable stories to read until you learn a little bit about it;
With each chapter you feel wiser.
And yes, the feeling of admiration for ethics becomes real.

This manga is almost a “self-help book”, people who usually read very little can be bored with so many philosophical and sentimental dialogues, including about the human mind (which is fascinating, I read the comments in each chapter and I saw a lot of people putting in the place of the characters ...)
Read, appreciate and anticipate that this is a type of work that would combine more with 'live-action' (but anime would also be awesome :D).

Amase, Shiori is responsible for the work, I looked for more about it and I'm curious to know if 'All Out !!' it can surprise me too.

If this is not the time for you to read, do not remove it from the "Plan your reading" list.
It is a manga that everyone should read in my opinion.

First of all, I'd like to say that: I wish I've read this manga when I was younger, specifically when I was still a student.

There are a lot of psychological mangas that you can easily read out there and not understand it at some point and Koko wa Ima kara Rinri desu isn't at all different; but it takes the courage to say that it is definitely from the rest.

You'd definitely understand why it's different from the rest if you; yourself has experienced emotional and psychological problems and Koko wa Ima kara Rinri desu ... has touched and expressed those topics in the best way possible. It made me feel that I want to have Takayanagi as my Ethics teacher too.

As Takayanagi said: "At least think to yourself, what's 'good' and 'evil' to you!!!"
This manga will make you think about life and will make you look back in your life as a student, as a human. It will just hit you straight to the core. Definetely a must read!

I personally have never encountered another manga having the same structure as this and pulling it off. Which is the strongest thing about the whole manga. More people need to read this thing.

Story - 9
There is no way you will not enjoy this aspect it's just made so tastefully and with such variety that it's impossible to not like at least one of all of the characters that we are introduced ... to. And just when you think things are getting stale the manga surprises you with a chapter about the whole class or the teacher himself. This is peak casual story right here.

Art - 6
Sometimes beautiful most of the time functional.

Characters - 10
Each and every character that we are introduced to is so realistic and grounded and at the same time is so interesting since all of the characters are not only humans but physical representations of how philosophy and ethics are always around us and always useful to some extend. It's honestly genius.

Enjoyment - 10
My god does this manga have some "Oh shit" moments. They are on a so smaller scale compared to similar moments in Shonen or Sports manga but damn do they hit just as hard. And apart from that the whole "new main character for this chapter" thing is kinda refreshing believe it or not. All and all had a great time just as you will.

Overall - 9
While this is very very close to a masterpiece there are a few moments when this can be a bit too convenient (yes I'm talking about that bar) and can feel weird it's only for a few pages but moments like that are still present from time to time. Combined with the art which is again very in style for the whole manga it's still a bit too normal to be a "masterpiece". But man everything else is just on point.

From Now On We Begin Ethics is a criminally underrated manga.

Up until today, I had no clue this manga existed. It follows the story of Takayanagi, a high school ethics teacher and his impact on all the different students he has and their individual struggles. Every chapter (sometimes every few chapters) is about a different student, the thought process going on inside their head, how they see their teacher Takayanagi, and a deep dive into different tropes or issues that not only reside in students, but in human beings as a whole.

It's incredibly relatable, and sometimes, you feel like the author, Shirori Amase, knows ... something about you to a far more detailed degree than you are comfortable with. That if you switched the names, that it would be one of the moral dilemmas you are facing or have faced in your life.

From wanting to be better for one you love, to the ambiguity of family dynamics, tackling self-love and what it means for different people, the hypocrisy of man, this manga is amazing and it's only 24 chapters in as I write this.

I am truly impressed with the intellectual depth achieved with this manga thus far, and I am extremely excited to see the future of this manga. I do believe it is actually getting a live action adaptation in 2021, so hopefully it will grow in popularity, as I believe this could be a much wider received story than the viewership it has now.

Anyway, in conclusion, read this mf.

Story: Monster of the week but make it depressed high schoolers. This manga deals with complicated subjects, such as self-harm, rape, gender expression, and mental illness, but manages to treat them with nuance and a certain gentle benevolence towards the characters. Outside of a couple moments perhaps with the beginning of the manga, I was pleasantly surprised - this isn't a manga that relies on edgy shock value. It's also good-natured without being pretentious, which is hard to due while name-dropping philosopher bigshots at least twice a chapter.

Art: Sharp and pretty, suits the story. It's so funny how ... the prof is depicted as this chad existentialist pretty boy who drifts in and out of panels, appearing over students' shoulders or in his "il see you in the time of ethics" ending shots. Visual pacing is strong. Students' character designs are distinct, varied, likeable.

Character: All these kids and their struggles felt so realistic to me and I wish I had read this when I was in high school because again, the story offers such genuine and mature advice without infantilizing their points of view. Prof is sympathetic even as we have not yet fully delved into his ~tragic backstory.
Series highlight for me so far was the class debate ft all the characters we'd been introduced up til then, which presented the intersection of the manga's philosophical themes and the emotional + interpersonal struggles of the characters. So well done! I hope the series continue to have these 'group confrontations' instead of just one on ones with the prof. Does seem to be heading in that direction.

Enjoyment/Overall: I devoured the chapters and will avidly follow the series, truly a current fave. Strong reccomend. 9/10 as of chapter 23 - holding out that last point until the series ends haha.

Also the quote that struck out to me the most "anxiety is the dizziness of freedom", kierkegaard. I need to get new hobbies. Bread-making?

It's a manga, unsurprisingly, about ethics!
But what it brings is something so many more. Many people, mostly the younger generations wouldn't mind thinking much about ethics. But what I think this manga does is something exceptional; simple yet deep, and something that deals with topics in a respectful and learning manner.
It's a manga about ethics, and one that you should not miss out on.

Story: 9.5/10
With the story yet have been concluded, I can't say for certain that it's a perfect story. Even so, I can easily say that for now, it's incredibly close. It's ... a manga about a teacher teaching ethics. It's simple but proves the opposite.
There are a few concerns that people might have. Despite the manga being dialogue heavy, it doesn't suffer from it. With how the dialogues are written for the characters, you still truly believe them as people voicing their own opinions, and not just information dumping. Added to the immersion, it's not difficult to follow along, either. You genuinely feel like you're in a classroom for students.

Of course, some of the students' problems are from Japanese culture, so things like the shame of sex and such are much different than the Western way of thinking. Even so, it delves into unique topics in a way that feels very general, and for anyone to jump into.
The only real "negative" I've found is some of the repeating patterns at the start of a couple of chapters, but it's done intentionally and well, it'd feel nitpicky for me to lower a point because of it.

I believe this manga goes into topics both respectfully, but also crafted in a way that you have no doubt wasn't intentional. The reason the story does so well is how it interweaves with our characters, which I will explain further.

Characters: 10/10
The most impressive I find is that the only thing about the teacher is that he's only bringing perspectives and what he has learned. He does not try and argue the student's way of thinking as something back or white, which is what ethics is; just a way of defining our own personal beliefs. Upon further reading, you will notice how much he personally doesn't know. There are most likely times you'll think "This teacher is wrong", "this sends a bad message", etc. Of course, it's all within perspectives.

The students are treated with respect - we understand that they have another view of the world, and our teacher is there not exactly to fix their problems but to explain further and expand on the topic. We see how these characters have their own troubles, beliefs, etc. The manga could've been a hot mess, yet was executed so well mainly because of the teacher sometimes helping to lead the conversations, but also the students that have learned to respect themselves and others. I can't exactly explain why the students are done so well because it might lead to spoilers, but believe me when I say that the students feel more human than most I've read.
But let's not say everything is solved with the teacher's existence. You get to see even early on; that he doesn't have the answer to everything. He doesn't know everything, nor does he pretend to.
Although I just circled back to the teacher, he is what the students and us readers gravitate to. He's flawed as any other character, he knows so much yet so little, and we get to see all of it. He fits the title of an ethics teacher perfectly.

Art: 8/10
The artstyle brings somehow a darker tone without making it straight edgy. It starts off a bit rough, but you can still very much tell the characters and background becoming cleaner. You realize as well that you won't get too deeply focused on the artstyle, but rather what they are conversing about, which is definitely not a bad thing. It's unique enough that won't make you bored, but still shows emotions incredibly well.

This manga serves as a self-help book that you can quickly pick up and often connect to the students feeling that way and darker elements that might send shivers. If you read this, not as gospel, but just as something to broaden and discover, you might just pick up something you've never realized about yourself.
Remember, ethics isn't just about what's right or wrong, it's the individual's own way of life. And once you understand that, opens a whole other world. I believe this manga has the power to do so for some, if not most individuals that read this; as pretentious as it might sound.

I wish I had read this story when I was younger.

Every chapter revolves around one of his students and the troubles they are going through and relating it to philosophy. While I can't relate to every student's story, I can understand where they come from. Some chapters hit me harder than others and I could have used them at a younger age. Some of the chapters apply to me now though.

It teaches you life lessons, and it's not the slice of life take where everything has a good end at some point. This has a more realistic approach. Things might always be shitty ... or hard to work through but you can do it. No matter what you face. Plus it doesn't put any of the students down. It treats them like real people. Sure some of them are shitty but deep down they are humans that went through things.

I enjoyed reading this and trying to absorb as much of the story I could because it was teaching me things.

I like the art, I do. I would give it a 10/10 but it doesn't feel the style that I usually go for. It's messy. But a beautiful mess.

I wish I could rate this higher than it already is. Everyone is truly fleshed out for the chapter that is dedicated to them. I can relate them to the real people I knew or myself.

The characters were so good that one chapter made me cringe mega hard because that is what I use to be like. That would be the self-harm ones. I never have had a story attack me so badly, I love it.

I'm sure if you read this then one of the chapters is sure to speak to you as a person.

A manga which captures the harsh realities of life, yet also the plagueful mundanities of life. How can humans navigate through the emotional hardship and despair?

In all honesty though, it would be interesting to see this manga adapted through a different medium, such as an anime.
For starters, our story's protagonist is a teacher of ethics, referred to as Takayanagi-sensei by his students.
His code of ethics and sense of morality are inspired by notorious philosophers, spaced all throughout history, each latching on to a specific question or ideal. The students in this manga have built their ethical compasses through their own unique experiences and at ... some points in the manga, their inner monologues draw you into the realm of existentialism, begging "What is the purpose of life?", and,"Why is murder bad?".
Hopefully, Takayanagi-sensei can help you find some semblence of an answer, providing some sense of solace, through the ethical principles he teaches both inside and outside the school environment.
Takayanagi-sensei draws attention to himself, through the lenses of his troubled students and the reader's.
Whether it be his strange sense of humour or the smoking habit he picked up frantically from his professor, the story's countless personas stand to invest their time and emotion into his carefully constructed character.
The enjoyment of this manga is, much like most works of art, bound to the interpretation skills and resourcefulness of the reader.
Finding a philosophical principle which resonates with you and adapting it to your circumstances may be a way to free yourself from conflict and pain.
We, as the reader, have a duty when consuming this piece of fiction to make strides in becoming a stronger person, one which others can rely on and I truly believe that we all need a Takayanagi in our life.
He empowers, educates and fundamentally changes his students as to prepare them for life outside of a school setting.

Give it a quick read as it's pretty interesting, being around the 30 chapter mark while recording this, it should suffice for an enjoyable past-time.
I find representations of the teacher-student dynamic to often be romanticised, partially because of the very few "good" teachers who are willing to dedicate enourmous pockets of time and knowledge to their students. Not many have the resources to guide these students as they trudge through the many experiences of life. It is an immense burden to carry.
Contrary to the many assumptions made about our protagonist, he is kind, gentle and warm-hearted but not the overbearing smothering kind, more like a radiant warmth which reels you in as you flip, page by page.
He continues to draw value from even the most broken and socially inept sacks of shit.
Encompassing an altruistic attitude and embracing his students' deepest secrets in a respectful, compassionate manner.
There are many stakeholders within the bounds of human experience who heavily invest in their ideals from the comfort of their own home, seeing no amounts of fruition on the other end.
But not so many, like mentioned above, are willing to teach and live it.
Throughout our lives, society may have conditioned us to wear masks and, in the process, fragment our already confused selves.
We refine and cultivate these masks so we can fit in with societal norms, hoping to one day receive cheques of validation from others.
Much like how a student is constantly finicked with by external forces, whether it be parents, friends or lovers.
However, amongst all that emotional and social turmoil, Takayangai-sensei still manages to create a beneficial atmosphere for his students. 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕, is the fruit of his hard work.

The very first chapter serves both as a great prologue and a fanservice chapter, which annoys me and pleases me to no end. It's a great introduction to our man, Takayanagi, and at the same time hook, line, and sinker the casual readers, the younger side to be specific. Its first impression is strong, so strong first-time readers won't realize the weird, borderline illogical end of the first chapter. Though they had to if they want this series to continue. I said borderline because their resolved the problem in future chapters. But it still stuck out from the rest of the series.

As the title suggests, ... "ethics" is the name of the game here. This is more of an anthology with multiple main characters throughout the story with Mr.Takayanagi being the middle man than a story about a super teacher like Assassination Classroom. Aside from the first chapter( I think it's a great chapter, don't worry about my rambling above), the story focus on their humanity, our society, "what is happiness?", or "what is life?". No, even the first chapter, without the weird way they ended it's fit the theme of the story to a tee.

All and all this is a great find and a good read.

Ethics... Philosophy... like the memes on the internet, it's time to have a blast with restructuring values and questioning your existence and questioning everything you have done in your life so far.

The story provides the applications of morality, values, and ethics in the mundane world. It lets the readers think and reflect back on what happened and what is to happen. It features the interaction and interpretation of a certain student/ or a certain group towards the concept being lectured. Besides providing and explaining the base concept or idea of the philosophy, the characters provide different views and insight based on their understanding on ... said concept/ idea.

Story also has a stunning and unusual art style - filled with contrasts and highlights. It somewhat sets the atmosphere to a more serious or thriller feel. The characters are also unique in their own interpretation towards a certain concept, and has a different interaction towards Takayanagi, the MC.

Just reading a few chapters either lets you reminisce of philosophy class or gets you thinking, questioning everything. So far, I've enjoyed every conversation the characters had and forced me to think of things again.

Definitely recommend this to readers who wants a different genre besides isekai/romance/drama, to casuals, to those who wants to break down into having another existential crisis.

one of my friend recommended me that this is an wonderful manga and its the only manga he rated 10/10...so ....i was quite curious about...and the topic was also quite interesting......
i try my best to analyze anything i watch or read....this manga is good but not that much...the only thing this manga have is a good mc .....the story is quite unrealistic and improper.....this manga has major flaws in its story...side characters aren't that much good either....the only thing good about this manga is its mc and mc's speeches or dialogues.. .....it was like they forcefully made up a story just to explain ethics......side characters ... development is quite fascinating....its not like that i disliked it..its more like it didnt met my expectance....and the standard that i follow .....i wont say the story is trash ..but its just better than the average.....
