This manga is really not well known at all, and that's a shame. It doesn't even have any reviews, so I'll be writing one.

At first when I started reading Hone ga Kusaru I didn't really have any high hopes, since there must be a reason why people don't read it right? But the beautiful and interesting cover art pulled me in, anyway. I expected this to manga to really blow and have some sort of misunderstanding about the person the group killed.

To my pleasant surprise, it really doesn't pull back it's punches. The art is phenomenal, the characters feel real, and it has ... it's generic dramatic love triangle (with 2 cute girls ;) ).
The plot is intriguing, and there are some great twists in the story.

So I at least suggest you to try out the first volume, it's very interesting.
As of now, there are only 5 volumes. Volume 6 is coming out later this month. (April 27) And the latest volume is most likely coming in May, or the month after that.

I liked this manga for a few reasons, but also had my reasons to dislike it too. In my opinion, it was a good time killer and decent manga, but failed as a thriller in many ways. I will write some pros and cons.

Pros

Very great concept, and succeeded in being very psychological at times. Really gave insight into the emotions of those who have taken a life, which I am sure most could not actually relate to. But somehow, it worked here.

I thought I had predicted the culprit, but it was actually somebody different. Some of the twists and turns were quite good.

The art suited ... the mood and atmosphere of the story, while not being my favorite style.

Cons

The first four volumes were quite slow in my opinion. Considering that is over half of the series, I have to dock some points for that. I couldn’t get really into it until volume 5 or 6. I do believe this could have been shorter by a couple volumes.

The romance in the story just didn’t work for me. I have heard of a love triangle, but here, there was kind of a love pentagon. Characters’ reasons for liking another character sometimes made no sense, or their reasoning to sleep with a character they had no feelings for were nonexistent. I think the author was going for emotional disturbance in a sense, but I wasn’t buying it, and much of the story was wasted on these romances.

The characters were somewhat weak. Everyone kept calling Shintaro brave and Akira charismatic, and the boys were all over Tsubaki and Haruka for reasons that could have been better portrayed. Ryu was my favorite and the most relatable by far for me. This was a very character-driven story, so this is where it really falls short.

Overall, a decent read. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I wouldn’t tell someone to stay away from it either. I wouldn’t read it again though.

This Manga is extremely enjoyable and I would implore anyone who agrees to assist in raising the score. Till Your Bones Rot is deep philosophical manga about the consequences of murdering someone. These consequences are experienced and conveyed through a group of young teenagers, who all had their own motives and deal with it in their own way. In the way that it's emotional, it's also a mystery roller-coaster. There are many scenes in this that will leave you guessing at what happens next, or took place that we don't know about yet.

It's drawn pretty well, and I rarely ever had a moment where the ... art didn't convey what the author intended. Beyond this, all the names should be easy to remember if you've got some familiarity with Japanese names. These generally lend themselves to the high rating I gave it.

Overall, this manga is an experience that will keep you reading without overstaying its welcome. Please read it and share your thoughts, if you can. I rate it an 8.5/10, rounded up to a pleasent 9/10 for MAL.

I can see why people would leave good reviews, but I've read enough of this genre to not really see anything special in this story or that makes all the flaws worth the read. This is, first of all, too pretentious for its own good: a slight case of "virgin loser" type shonen writing that showed specially in the female side characters (useless and whose actions didn't make any sense) which was a shame since the protagonist wasn't as annoying as other cases of this, a great amount of predictability that the author attempted to solve by pulling dumb plot twists out of thin air, ... using a flat and hollow character as a villain (that remains hollow and flat and underdeveloped even after said plot twist) that can only be sustained by making up characters that were never before even hinted at as existing, thus compromising their previous story building and making more than a quarter of the manga feel rushed for no reason, since this wasn't a case of "you're getting axed so solve this now". A bunch of unused, flat, weird side characters that never really do anything for the plot, as well. Now anyone would say, well the plot is interesting, well the art is gorgeous, well at least it's entertaining, but it really isn't, the delivery is actually more annoying than entertaining, and once again, there are ENOUGH stories in the shonen, seinen and even shojo and josei tags with similar plotlines and wonderful breathtaking art that are far more entertaining, some of them even with the shonen tropes and nonsense writing if that's your cup of tea, so it would be a better use of your time to go on either of those and search something similar. But just to get the kick, this one's too boring and way too average, and for dumb stupid plot twists, this is too mediocre.

So, I found this manga in my local 2nd hand book store. The cover art attracts me instantly so, I bought the first volumes of the manga. Guess what? I ended buying the remaining volumes of the manga after reading the first one. In my opinion, Hone ga Kusaru made provides one of the best experience I had when reading mystery manga. These are the reasons on why I enjoy reading this 'masterpiece'.

1) Art
The artwork of this manga is done by Yae Utsumi which I never heard of before stumbling upon this manga. The artwork is pretty clean and the character design have some 'kyun' ... elements to it. I especially enjoy the facial expression of the characters (seems pretty real to me).

2) Character Development
In my opinion the character development is consistent until the end of the manga which i think its pretty reasonable. I enjoy great n steady character development as it could really allow me to be in the character's position and experience their feelings.

3) Story
The plot starts off relatively slow, allowing the reader to digest the information provided without being left behind. As the story progresses, the pace will gradually increase to stay relevant to the story. There are a couple of fillers but it is necessary to avoid plot holes. As I read the manga I thought that I predicted the main antagonist from the manga and guess what, plot twist! The plot twist is totally unpredictable and it amazes me.

Overall, I definitely enjoy reading the manga to my heart content. But honestly this manga does not have much reread value as we already know the main antagonist of the manga. But the story is unforgettable and I would die for finding any manga similar to this.

well, what can i say about?

i think the concept of the story is great. i love the genre and the bond among the 5 main characters are admirable. i really enjoyed watching them interacting, even when they really commit a murder and feel okay about it.

however i think the story kinda decline as it goes towards the end. i don't really like the detective character. he is out of nowhere and can read literally everything with unreal accuracy, yet does nothing really special in the story, he is a threat to the group but hides in the shadow most of the time and even after ... he surfaces as the threat that the group are aware of he still doesn't show up much, as the story revolves around the group so he is the antagonist, a main one even because he is the last one that they have to face, yet he has very limited interaction with the story.

oh and that both girls in the group crazily love Shintato to the point that one is willing to commit murder and the other loves to be raped by him is kinda disturbing as well.

but all those cons aside, i still highly regard this manga, mostly because of its psychology genre. and it really made me thrilled the entire ride. i couldn't stop binging straight to the end.

This manga truly tests the "bonds" of friendship. It makes the reader think about right and wrong, and the character development throughout the manga is really great. The artistic style is beautiful. This manga is almost as good as all the other psychological manga about teens murders and friendships. I don't know why I didn't come across it until now, but it was so worth the 98 chapters.

It's not as gory as other manga popular about killing, but it does have its gruesome scenes. The way the mangaka portrays the killings makes it eerie in itself. Even though the story is about teenagers committing murder, ... it shows the twisted world of adults that forced these children to become this way.

Definitely a must read~!!

good read. the characters are mostly great, love how their morals are tested throughout the story, and the fact the mc is also morally corrupt unlike your stereotypical goody-two-shoes mc.
it had so much potential, but i think it fell flat in many areas.
the detective, although a great character, i feel was underutilized in the story. maybe if the manga was longer he would have had a bigger role in the characters' conflict.
my biggest gripe is how one character isnt given enough justice in the end, a revelation that should fill the atmosphere with much more emotion, anger, and despair is instead replaced with empathy and ... a little bit of anger.
what one character did was a bigger deal than it was taken by the others, this character didn't just watch, it was cruel. it should've been a bigger wedge in their test of friendship.
but i digress, i still love how the mystery eventually unravels.

Short summary (no spoilers): This story is about a group of friends who killed someone and tried to hide it. The characters face guilt, grief and torment as they try to live with the murder they committed and the obstacles that it brings into their lives. They try to keep the dead body a secret from other people but with the consequence of keeping secrets from each other that will test their friendship and their lives.

The whole thing was ok: art, characters. Some aspects of the story did not add up to me but ... maybe I was just too slow to understand.

Despite this, the story was gripping and kept me wanting to read more. There is definitely better manga out there but it has enough good qualities to be an enjoyable read.

The horror aspect comes from prolonged and detailed scenes of psychological torture. At the end, the reader is left thinking about whether the killing was justified and whether everything would have been fine if they hadn't kept secrets from each other. This book is great for horror fans.

If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I can't do horror. It doesn't matter if it's a movie, TV series, anime, or manga, I just can't do it. Why, do you ask? It's simple: I like sleeping well at night. While I might not like horror, I very much enjoy thriller/suspense stories, one of my favorites being The Hiding Place movies, Jurassic Park, and Gravity. When it comes to manga, I enjoy thriller stories even more. There's just something about the paneling that makes thriller manga so easy to binge read. That is especially true for Hone ga Kusaru made, ... or in englishh: Until Your Bones Rot. I kid you not I went to bed after reading the first 13 chapters, woke up the next day, went to church, came home, sat down, and BINGED the rest of the series. It takes a lot for a series to be so compelling that you physically cannot stop making yourself read. From chapter 3 and onwards, your hand will just make you keep scrolling. The murder, the mysterious phone person, the twists, the plots, subplots, counterplots, and plot-plots are all near perfect to me. I'm keeping this review spoiler free because this series is WAAAAAAY too good to spoil. There is a slight trigger warning. If you are sensitive to topics such as ped0ph1lia, r8pe, and Schmexual Assault, don't read this. I understand that not every manga is for everybody, so I just wanna put that out there. However, if you have a strong enough stomach, and love some mystery thriller stories, Hone ga Kusaru made is the manga for you. It have very short chapters that range from 10-16 pages, so you can get through it easily. These are my ratings of the individual aspects of the manga:

Story: 7/10 Seen this story done before in other manga, so nothing really out of the ordinary there
Characters: 10/10 The characters can make or break a story, but here, they utilized all of the characters, even if they seem insignificant. Also has great development of the main group
Art: 9/10 The art in this series comes across as pretty standard, but the more you read, the more you realize that the art adds to the atmosphere of dread.
Ending: 9/10 I was worried that I would hate the ending, but I love me a good redemptive ending

Overall: 9/10

When I started reading this manga, I couldn't get through first chapter, after I did I dropped it, but I felt like I had to read at least one more. Unfortunately I couldn't find English scans and the only online version I did find was very poorly translated, so reading the second chapter was so hard that I had to drop this manga. A time has passed and I thought about the characters because they felt kinda warm to me so when I was picking a new manga, I decided to finally give it one more chance.
This manga has a really interesting premise, as I ... have mentioned characters also feel real so that combined with great art and interesting twists, gives us a pretty solid manga.

Art (7/10)
I wouldn't say the art work is great, but it is good and it really fits the manga. I don't really have much to say, art is not something that really stands out but still it was good.

Story (8/10)
I found story really interesting, not only the main storyline but the romance one also, as it really reminded me of myself, not the main guy he gets all the girls:(. only thing that I hated was translation, I don't wanna sound mean, but usually the panels would be out of order, I would always get lost and don't get what was happening, and sometimes whole chapters were rearanged. (I don't mean official English scans)

Characters (9/10)
Characters by far are the greatest feat of this manga, they feel extremely real and reletable, one of the things that I really liked, well not really enjoyed, but I was happy that simillar thing that happened to me was in this manga. I as well as Ryu had a crush on two close friend girls, but both of them liked my weird short best friend, (it is a joke he is good looking but short af:)). The only thing that I don't really like about characters are the females.... as not right as it sounds, hear me out, they are not enjoyable, I don't really like how they act and it's not because of my personal feelings, you will get it after reading. Main guy is cool, Akira is great, Ryu was always my favorite, but the author doesn't really care about him and he is seemingly an outcast of the main group in manga so yeah, still great tho.

Enjoyment (8.5/10)
It was pretty easy to read, unfortunately as I've already mentioned, my translation sucked, so it was harder for me to understand the story, but still short and sweet chapters, filled with enjoyable characters made up for everything

Don't mind the math, it is just how I feel. There were some things I didn't like, but after reading I wanted more. I know I've talked too much about the characters, but I really liked them, the story was dark and sweet and I really enjoyed every bit of it, the ending was questionable, I wouldn't say bad, but there were some things I didn't like and maybe wanted something different, but it concludes the story well. In conclusion, I would really recommend this manga and I would like to read more from this author.

tl;dr: A manga with an okay mystery but with an awful and badly written cast and muddled themes.

This manga involves a group of five friends who committed premediated murder as children and buried the body. Since then, with both their guilt and the threat of being caught hanging equally over all of them, they have remained close friends. However, five years after the murder, the skeleton mysteriously disappears, and they receive a call from an unknown party threating to expose them if they don’t do what he asks. This results in them being put through the ringer of having to commit further crimes which they ... then need to hide from the police, while also doing their best to seek out and discover who the mysterious blackmailer is so that they can deal with him and go back to their normal lives.

There’s only essentially one mystery, though as the manga progresses it does get more complicated. It’s a decent mystery though not a great one. It relies on a lot of really convenient things happening or not happening in order for it to play out the way it does and the leaps in logic are a bit wild at times. At the same time, it’s paced well and keeps up the suspense by constantly throwing in new twists and leaving strong hints that make it feel like something bigger is coming. That combined with the paneling also being oriented towards flowing fast results in a manga that is a page turner and very easy to read through in a single sitting.

However, what felt more important than the mystery itself was the emphasis on the bonds between the group of friends. They’re put through a wringer which severely tests their bonds, but ultimately their bonds remain intact. However, that felt completely undeserved. The manga doesn’t do all that good of a job of showing the strength of their bonds. On the other hand, it does a great job of throwing a constant stream of events at them that should weaken and break said bonds. It spent more time on the bizarre toxic love polygon than it did on their friendship. There’s a lot of stuff that’s immensely unpleasant there and honestly it made me feel worse than any of the stuff directly related to the murders. That after everything went down, they were still close to each other felt incredibly unnatural, which made the ending overall feel somewhat bizarre.

A core theme of the manga is also that murdering people is obviously wrong. However, it does a really bad job of conveying that. It shows the characters struggling with their guilt and feeling pain in different ways. However, it does a terrible job at fleshing out characters and it felt like there were a lot of inconsistencies in motivations and such. The epitome of this comes from how two characters are straight up psychopathic for most of the manga, but suddenly have a change of heart at the end that wasn’t built up to at all. There’s no real character arc, it just happens. In the end it felt like the emotional beats it was going for just didn’t land.

The art was solid enough but not good enough for this to be a manga you’d read for the art. It conveys the story well and does a good job with the fast pacing but is never really all that nice to look at, nor are the gory and violent portions all that horrific.
