Well, it's not really surprising to me, since I know the game. But it's an exceptionally well-made conversion, I'm more than happy about it. Bee Train is definitely outdoing themselves with Phantom.

So the big bang happened. Claudia's fiendish plan works like a charm

o She's been sending SM and Ein to help attack an _Inferno_ shipment

o Now she's fingering them as traitors to Inferno

o The reason why she called Zwei over was to give him an alibi

o Believing that he won't be able to lead a "normal" life anymore, she gives Zwei his passport back, with the choice "Be free and run, or work for me, but NOT as a mere puppet like under SM

Intended result: The overly ambitious Scythe Master and Ein are taken out of the picture, and Claudia is even grooming herself a little Phantom for her own use. Also, her position as Director of Operations in Inferno is re-stabilized. What's not to like?

Touching scene between Ein and Zwei, handled very well. The game's main strength was the dense atmosphere, and here, Bee Train manages not only to capture the game's spirit, but to build on it. And the excellent soundtrack really helps.

5 points.

Yah good overview Mentar.

Pretty epic score with the bullet removal scene, although oddly that reminded me of the campfire in MSG3 if you still had the bug lol.

Great episode. Claudia basically forces Zwei's hand, but gives him the illusion of freedom. I still think it's a little early in the series for this to happen and Claudia is too early with this move. She really needed to build a stronger bond between herself and Zwei (not to mention getting some distance between him and Ein) before executing this plan. She is really underestimating them if she chooses to set the hounds loose. I mean going up against not just one, but two super assassins is not a good idea. However, Ein is shot and Zwei is emotionally unstable, so it could work.

The preview for the following episode has really got me excited.

I love the sexual framing of the bullet removal scene.

Claudia sliding her hand along Zwei's arm and making a gun formation with her fingers was nice as well. Basically, a "sensual gun" emphasizing the threat as well as the seductiveness of what she is offering (and reemphasizing her position toward him also). As well, it foreshadows the anticipated psychological impact of the document, due to the "barrel" being pointed toward the passport.

There was that odd smirk though near the end of the episode in response to something Lizzie says, which suggested to me that she either may have an even more ulterior motive (though I don't know how that could possibly work) or that she was also not unexpectant of that outcome. I'll have to rewatch that more closely though, as I could just be pulling that out of nowhere.

This episode was so good! It's really taking off now, I almost with they could just fly away and start up a life somewhere after this episode but I know that's not possible, it's not how it ends. The ep was very well done though, from how his memory came back with his name, to when he removed the bullet from ein. look forward to next week :)

Wow, I really liked this twist and it came so early in the series so I can only imagine what is in store or the rest of the season. I thought maybe I just had a dirty mind when watching the bullet removal scene... but I guess that was the intention or at least be a bit sensual. Then to wrap it all up they had the touching scene with Zwei (Reiji) and Ein huddled together through the night.

very epic EP...

I thought this assassin thing would go longer until 12 before something changes...and the bullet-removal scene was pure tension - must have hurt as hell >.<

now it's going to be interesting to see how reiji and ein want to escape, since she'S hurt and the organization is persistent lol...

the preview looked like well...lets not talk about it xD

Now what I noticed in this episode, and not just in this one, but in previous ones as well is that even though this is as cliché as assassin story can be, it's still damn great. The choice of music, the characters (pretty well developed characters, if I may add), the conversations, everything is just done in an awesome way so even though it's cliché, it's still touching and interesting.
I just hope they don't lose that touch of brilliance in the next episodes, since it's quite obvious Inferno will be after them, and lots of killing is going to happen.
I really really hope they keep developing characters and their relationships.

Great show.

Finally Zwein (Reiji) decided his own actions. Actually U guys need to Thankfull Claudia she gave him his passport so he got his memories back. That help him to act his own. Everyone knows he was just a stupid puppet that he killed a little kid and mother for organization. He would do anything to live. He was that kind of man. But now he is risking his life to save Ein. He really changed.

I hope they can escape together but look like they'll capture Reiji. Cant wait next eposides.

Everything has already been said. Great execution, just how it should be. I didn't even notice any of those annoying flaws in the details, that plagued almost all of the previous eps for me.
Maybe 1 or 2 extra episodes building their relationship, so choosing Ein would have been more of a "this is my decision, this is what I want" than "duh, this is how the story should progress", but I'm just picky.

Best ep is best.

I think that this is just when cliche becomes a classic. ;)

And yeah, the bullet removal scene surely was intented to be this much suggestive and stimulating(but they refreined from fully "dressing" it with Ein's screams though), a very clever way to smuggle a doze of sexual tension. In short - another great episode, and it's topping the record with 5/5s compared to the rest of notes. :D

Did anyone else find it strange that they didn't think to send anyone from the inferno to check where phantom had been living? It may just be me being picky about small details but like ... an organization with "all these people" involved with it and not one of them gets sent to check it out? lol.

That occurred to me as well, but I justified it by the fact that Ein was truly hiding there and, though a fair amount of times passed from when Zwei found her and when he left with her, AFAIK, it wasn't more than a quarter or half of a day. It's also a remote location, so it may also have been assumed to be a less viable hiding place on account of the difficulty of escape if discovered (as compared to an urban environment) and to maintain long-term residence without resupplying. Also, from Zwei's surprise at finding the blood inside, there was no apparent indication from the outside that anyone was inside until he left his car out front. So, I guess you just have to suspend disbelief a bit and think that, because it's a remote location, there's at least not much use in posting a watchman there, whether or not it was still checked at some point by someone off screen.

I share my opinion with both of you. I also think that Ein probably was not trained to escape to her hideout, since its kinda of obvious. On the other hand i dont remember anyone except Claudia from knowing the location. (and Scythe)

In the third episode pretty much the whole gang shows up there, Ein, Zwei, Claudia, Scythemaster, Lizzie, Raymond McGwire (as well as dead Wallace). It's possible that, of those, only Claudia and Scythe knew the location beyond Ein and, later, Zwei. I don't see why that would be though.

However, a thought just occurred to me... unless I'm misremembering, I believe, as far as the rest of the organization is concerned, Zwei is an enemy by default along with Ein and Scythemaster. So, if Claudia thought that Zwei would return to his "origin as an assassin" to sort his mind out, since she doesn't want him to be taken in or killed before he's given her his allegiance, she may have arranged that no one check that spot. Unfortunately for her, that's where the wounded Ein headed as well. (^_^)

That's still just a speculatory justification though and as good as anything else...

Edit: In light of the next episode, it seems that it was more an issue of time.

Eh, not a bad episode, but it moved along so slowly that I got bored very quickly. Because the plot development was so telegraphed from the first episdoe, I didn't really find anything surprising. Furthermore, with the bullet removal scene, I definitely see this show in the La Femme Nikita light that a few people have said earlier.

It's all ok to me, but overall, nothing has really captured me on any level of execution except for maybe the music.

You're kidding, right? That was so obvious..... This show is clichee and trash, but i still love it..This episode was nice, not that much action, but still....hope the relationship between Ein (btw. this is wrong. the correct form would be: eins) and Zwei will develop a bit (not that i'm seriously hoping for good romance...).

Just watched this episode and will watch episode 9 tomorrow (too tired o_o;)

In any case, I think this was the best episode so far. Even so, it wasn't a total surprise (after just finishing up Ergo Proxy, Phantom makes a helluva lot of sense in comparison). Was it not obvious that Claudia was up to something and was pulling strings in the background? To be honest, I was hoping that a twist like this would happen at an earlier episode - I felt the series has dragged up until this point, and that with this new development, I feel like the real plot is now underway and we can get on with the show.

Honestly, at this point, Zwei is just reminding me of a less-cool Hei from Darker than BLACK, and so far, I have yet to feel anything for Ein (she's so apathetic and emotionless that it's hard to relate to her), so when she got shot, I was very "meh" about it >.> Oh well. It's a useful way to develop the plot, I guess.

I don't care what anyone has said previously about this series but I knew it would truly turn out to be something special.

I absolutely love this atmosphere of this episode. Friggin' amazing in terms of story telling for this kind of show not typically seen all the time.

I know I know like said before there are minor details like how they couldn't find Ein and Zwei, but lets just assume that since those two aren't in training anymore that, no one felt to look to check there since they were basically living together in that apartment. Ok? :P

Anyways preview of the next episode looks like Zwei gets caught (anyways) but could again be yet another emotionally filled episode.

Can't wait, glad I decided to stay with this one!

This was a really good episode. Miss McCunnen really pulled her tricks. But Zwei feelings for Ein won the battle. It's also probably because he sees Ein as the only person that can feel connected to since she suffered the same fate.

As other said the bullet removal scene was really smart comparing pain with the erotic element and all that.
It looks like from now on the rhythm will really lift up. Can't wait for what's next.
