In the 50th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, an announcement will be made that manga "Baby Steps" will be receiving an anime adaptation that will air spring 2014 on NHK E. The series will be produced by Kenji Saito, most known for his role as executive producer for the first and second seasons of "Bakuman."

Manga Synopsis:

"Maruo Eiitirou (E-Chan), a first year honor student, one day decides he's unhappy with the way things are and lacks exercise. He finds a flyer for the Tennis Club and decides to check it out. He's instantly captivated by it. With no prior experience and poor physical conditioning, join E-Chan as he embarks on a tennis journey using his smarts, dedication, and work ethic."

Sports series are always welcomed by me. A little skeptical by the Romance tag but I'm in.

I'm the opposite actually. Romance? Let's go.

Wouldn't it be better for the title to be worded as "Tennis Manga 'Baby Steps' to Receive Anime Adaptation"?" Just saying...

This will get compared heavily to Prince of Tennis for sure, but this time the MC is an underdog. At least I see a Romance tag which I'm not opposed with. Will watch out for this.

Spring has 2 sports anime now, this and Haikyuu. Should be fun.

Agreed. Finally, a female who's not a support in a sports anime. Count me in.

*puts on reading glasses* I think it's fine either way to be honest, but since someone actually brought it up maybe it's worded weird. I'll change it.

So the rumor was true after all.

And the most important thing to note is that it is a NHK ANIME. This could mean that the anime getting 2 or more cour.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

It's a nice manga, so I'll be looking forward to the anime adaption. Even the romance wasn't bad.

He's right. It can hardly be called romantic, tennis gets much more focus.

It's probably best this way, though. The manga manages to stay interesting and that's all that counts.

I'd still want the main focus to be about tennis, but a decent amount of romance would be a plus for me. Sounds like I'm not going to get that though. I'll still watch this for sure since I love tennis.

That's great to hear. I'm no romance "hater" but it's indeed better that the respective sport gets most of the attention in this kind of series. Looking forward to this.

Happy to see this get adapted.

For those wanting romance there is hope, depending on how many episodes will be adapted, you may or may not see romance.
It also may or may not be much romance depending on what is considered romantic to you. But i can say IMO it is very tennis focus with every once in a while small romantic progress, even without the romance, the manga is awesome to me.
