| It's just a MAL bias. The more obscure, the lower the score. People who seek out obscure anime like this rate lower on average (probably because they tend to use the full 10-point scale!) I'd say that for a show this obscure, a 6.51 isn't a bad score, though not particularly good either. I also have mixed feelings about it. Despite all the visuals (which I agree were good, though I perhaps wasn't *quite* as impressed as most reviewers), I really don't get a feel for why this film even existed. I finished it and wondered "okay, so what's the point?" The plot itself hardly seemed like anything to get excited about, even with that little twist at the end, and I didn't really pick up on any deeper meanings or allegories. |

| Art films are just that: art. There's typically little to no plot, so it's no surprise the plot is basically non-existent. The film lives up to its name, anyway, as it was basically a very sensual art form. It's beautiful to look at and thus sensual to the senses (mainly seeing and hearing), and that's it. It didn't really need to be anything more than that. |

| What a surprise. This has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of animation I have encountered. Back in the early 70s Osamu Tezuka and his Animation studio tried to do something like this with the Animerama trylogy: beautiful, expressionistic animation that presents adult and erotic themes. But I think that this litlle film is the real culmination of that aspiration. In fact, is telling that the director and writer of the last film of the Animerama trilogy: Eichi Yamamoto, is the writer for this film. The Director, Yukio Abe, is a well known art director in the anime industry, and this has to be his best work. I hope I can find someday the novel by Ihara Saikaku that is the inspiration for this OVA. |

| I like how a guy with a baggage of anime for children just decided to direct an arthouse "hentai" OVA. It was enjoyable, honestly. I especially liked how elegant Komurasaki was, and felt pity for Juzo who just didn't know how to behave. Thinking of this whole process as a ritual is exciting indeed. Though I wonder how did Komurasaki feel about her job? Knowing that most women in Japan were prostitutes against their will, it's quite rare to see a woman like Komurasaki. Though the plot was very simple and was basically an excuse to show what was shown, I don't think it's bad; the purpose of the OVA is just that - showing erotic ukiyo-e-styled animation. The soundtrack was also great most of the times, traditional Japanese sounds did fit well with everything else. Though I wonder why did the music change in the ED and during Komurasaki x Juzo scene from to something...futuristic? It felt strange. It's sad that films like this and Belladonna are not made anymore. P.S. the height of Komurasaki's okobo was insane, was this size used for real? Mindblowing, really |

| I can't find this appealing at all. It just doesn't work as a hentai and the overall story is too boring to even work as just a movie. It gets often artistic with it's visuals and methaphors and the music is quite relaxing. With that being said the story is boring. the characters are uninteresting and the animation isn't that great for that sort of Geishai based setting. If you are looking for good hentai material, you won't find much here. |

| There's no way to say that this anime is a hentai, because it's not. It was amazing to watch this. Extremely beautiful aesthetics, character design is wonderful (most of the women), the music is good and relaxing, animation is also very good. The story is simple and functional, along with extremely artistic animation. It surprised me, even more that I went to see it without even knowing what it was about. |

| Ah, artistic hentai. This was such a beautiful trip that I can only hope it get's released on Blu-ray with the same effort as Belladonna of Sadness (1973) was given. This is such a gem among the genre. |
