This is definitely the second half of the show with a 25 year time skip. There's resistance against the church while raids are also happening.

Feels like this episode did its job at highlighting the corruption of their world, even after over two decades. Schmitt has a more important role in this timeline but overall, vibe and storytelling style remains generally the same.

The new OP visuals are really good as well. Time for a new protagonist, new questions, and a new look at the same question they've all been having for all this time. Looks like they're after the book left by Badeni and Oczy and they have it now. Things are getting a bit crazy between the Church and the Heretics. No side wants to accept the other one.

The new ED song is very beautiful and the visuals are pretty good as well. Can't wait to see where this goes from here on out. The OP is the same but with updated visuals and the same song, but who cares, cuz the song is a banger.

I have no idea who these characters are, so I assume they're all new, although the old guy with the eye scar at the end was presented as if we're supposed to know him?

Can't wait to see adult Jolenta. She's the only connecting piece among the heroes right now. Well, her father is there, too, will be interesting to find out what he did in all these years.

Anyway, good to see someone fighting back against the church. Not sure whether his believes are all good, though. At least he seems to accept other believes besides his.
If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.

Another great episode, didn't expect a 25-year time skip but okay and I recognized Schmitt's voice it was Ainz's VA, he fits the role perfectly. And man the new visuals in the OP is gorgeous as Fuck. I hope someone will upload a non-credit version in YT

Both the updated OP visuals and brand new ED are good

So the truth moves forward again. Schmitt and his associates retrieved the book from the Inquisition, which I assume was written by Grabowski. Perhaps he was later sentenced, or maybe he simply lived a normal life without taking any further part in this story.
We also got a sad backstory for one of the trio from the Liberation Force, I guess. Bet it'll be important later.
The man at the end is definitely related to the dark-skinned girl (our new MC based on the OP), judging by his skin color. Even with the same song, the visuals in the op slap.
It's getting really good, moving from astronomical disputes to personal and religious beliefs.

Now time for a new generation.Didnt quite expect it to be 25 years later, one hell of a jump.Guessing we gonna keep flashing back and forth to see how it all connects and what happened with our former characters.

Thought they were going to be inquisitors judging from the get up,turns out its the very opposite. The books gotta be the one written on the beggars heads, its about time we learn what Oczy wrote down.

Tho Schmidt did alr learn about him and Badeni,im guessing connection with Jolenta. Also another big question of where the necklace went, last place could think of is Novak and wonder what he did with it.

No you got it wrong. That backstory revolved around a family who used to live in that village. The boy who ran is most probably our new MC.

I'm gonna miss Oczy in the OP but the new visuals are still breathtaking, and that one shot of [Rafal's head turn amidst the fire](https://i.imgur.com/sYawep5.png) suddenly hits a whole lot different now that we're on our third central protagonist.

After watching Nowak show off his collection of torture devices to the unlucky heretic of the week, having Schmidt introduce gunpowder to a bunch of inquisitors was neat for a change.

Nah, the MC is shown at the beginning of the opening. You won't prove me wrong on this one unless you say that the MC is orb/truth. 100% sure about that.

@ZXEAN It is a girl, they're talking about the new character in the OP. She is also a girl in the manga. The boy who ran is different, most probably Schmitt because of the cut to his feet.

25 year time skip damn I was not expecting that. Knew we had a new MC this week but damn. Long as Jolenta out there safe 😔

I’m really hype for this arc though because for once we have characters who are going on the aggressive against the church. They’re not conducting research in secret or trying to hide, they’re straight up raiding inquisition dungeons and freeing people. The church have for too long been unchecked in their brutal crackdowns of those who think differently, let’s see how they handle having mss that can fight against them.

Schmidt had a Batman origin story damn near no wonder he hate the church so much. Seeing both your parents murdered over philosophical disagreements would be anyone villain story.

I love the new OP visuals. Can’t wait to meet our new lead for the season!

Orb isn't a character driven story just like the second arc I think the final arc will also feature multiple MCs and the boy will be one of them that's my speculation.

OP so good I wet my pants with excitement. Why change a masterpiece just modify to fit with new cour. More anime need to do this. The second half also be Cinema..
Just not Re:Zero Orb also doing "counterattack" arc too. Seeing them blasting away these inquisitor and their minions is satisfying.

With the time skip looks like they are in gunpowder and even schism has happened from irl.

One of the new mc Schmidt is introduced. I love his no compromise attitude, appropriate for the times. The way he lost his father and mother probably shaped his distain for all things church. Murderer kinda became successful being able to change his way and tbf he wasn't wrong, still I hope he died like an insect..
Schmidt and co got their hands on Badeni & Oczy book so atleast their legacy lives on🙌

I wonder who's the dude whose captured by the scum Antoni is, if not a new character it could be Gabrowski?

Also finally in Polish anime LEWANDOWSKI is mentioned

Anyone else think Jolenta is the leader?

Obviously, the book they were after is the copied 60 pages written on the beggars heads.

Also, Antoni moved up and became a bishop, whilst that old man at the end is probably Nowak (probably got that scar years ago after being ousted(?)).

This was an episode of change as a new arc begins after a fairly large, 25-year time skip as well as having a new ED by Yorushika as well as new opening visuals (well a decent chunk of it at least) with new characters and the new protagonist I assume for this arc. This had a lot of new faces but was still fairly interesting to watch this setup as a whole, especially Schmidt and his extreme values, especially when putting the test together for people that were seemingly interested in joining him due to heretics being freed (and having them still not join up with him). I like the old ED more but this was still good.

New arc finally showing some characters that only appeared in the opening, I wonder how Jolenta affected the events before the time-skip.

The captain philosophy about God and the hypocrisy of the church kinda make sense but it goes against the human desire of wanting a more relaxed and easy life.

The second half begins, with potentially a new direction...

A 25-year time skip was certainly a change of pace, and with that, comes new characters, and likely a new protagonist as we saw in the new the OP visuals. I have to say I was a bit lost on who these new characters were and their potential connection to previous characters. I do like that the show doesn't just introduce everyone by name, but makes the viewer piece together just what exactly is going on. I feel like I'll really like Schmitt's character, with his intriguing views on religious beliefs and God. I do wonder what his connection is to Oczy, Badeni, and even Grabowski. One thing I'm thinking for now would be that Jolenta probably has a big role in this new Liberation Front group, and that has me intrigued for what's to come.

New characters, new protagonist, and a new ED which is very nice, but I'm glad they kept the OP as it's a great theme, even with new visual effects. I'm especially glad they left Rafal's part in the opening: it's the most epic moment of the OP and a great character who is still moving the story along even though he's only been around for 3 episodes.

What I didn't expect is that 25 year time jump. I imagine Grabowski spread the theory, which sparked a sort of rebellion against church orthodoxy. That's probably how they know about Oczy and Badami. I also think the boss Schmitt was referring to is Jolenta, since her story with Nowak can't end here, especially with the despicable Antoni still alive.

This anime just keeps getting better and better. I love how they portray different perspectives: those who blindly believe in the church, those who believe in God but not the church, and those who outright reject the God created by mankind. It's fascinating.

@henwens This isn't nitpicking, it's a misunderstanding. The current story takes place in the Kingdom of P (based on Poland, judging by the written language and names), not in Poland itself. Everything will become clearer in the epilogue, which will be covered in episode 24 and/or 25.

Well, we can say both Schmitt and Frei are not polish names so they probably brought explosives with them from west. Or they got the recipe there.

Safe to say inquisitor and the guards didn't know what was it hence they ended up dead

  • 25 years passed and things changed. New technologies appeared and new concepts for god appeared. But it seems the earth stands still yet.
  • 25 years later. Then 25 years ago. +25 - 25 = 0. The director zapped chronological order. The manga didn't. Not so much difference after all. One of the advantage for this is they can introduce matcing on action technique for the boy running away with relatively smoother transition.
  • Again. It's ridiculous to kill people as they don't follow a god that was fancied by some man. They are also doing fratricides for small difference in the same religion. (This bore the strange killing machine with his logic.)
But it may be natural in a sense. The same species kill each other since they like the same agreeable condition. And religions can survive only in human like some kind of virus, and the number of the beds are limited.

Episode 4/5

25 year time jump, new cast, new stories.

At first we have a liberation group formed by heretics and on the other side, in opposition to their ideas, we have the church. Philosophies were addressed in this episode both based on people's different opinions and also on questioning the classes that each person occupies in society.

In the present, during the escape of the group of heretics, we had that mustachioed guy questioning a heretic about his imperfect but objective ideas about his purpose. There was an exchange of different points of view and conclusions that: what we hear about something may not always be true.

Also earlier in the episode, we saw the hypocrisy of the church's misguided teachings being addressed during that conversation with the inquisitor. Furthermore, when the time jump went back 25 years, there was a village that no longer wanted to submit to precepts established by the church, such as charging the poorest population.

In short, a lot is happening, new characters, and new dialogues and contradictions are being questioned. A good episode but I feel like I can't determine if Orbe will be more interesting, I like this anime, but the idea keeps repeating itself: "someone studies heliocentrism and then dies in the Inquisition", I hope this pattern changes, as the end of this seems to be heading towards the same old drama. I also hope there are characters as good as Count Piast and Oczy (my favorite characters)

This story jumps all over the place. Almost no characters stick around for longer than a few episodes. Even so, it is interesting because of the ideas of naturalism vs the dogmatic theocracy.
