Yostar Pictures's series, initially birthed from being a half-episode New Year's Special for 2022, has now, after 4 years, become a full-fledged anime in the making.

I knew we can do no wrong with Masayoshi Ooishi feat. Airi Suzuki's OP, when did this man ever fail in making a good song? Moeka Yahagi's ED is a slow, albeit chill song.

The Minami Aoba I saw in the TV special, definitely is NOT the girl who plays gacha games all day, with no strengths or aspirations that she fails to do anything typical, right, on the cusp of returning back to reality. With her trusty friend of Izumi Akina who adheres to the Shogi Club, Minami tries doing something "special", like helping an 80-year-old man seeing her as an angel, taking a bag of golf clubs down to the nearby driving range, where the golfer's stroke triggers her. Of course, the old man of Masao "Masa" Tadakoro coming to the range to play some golf alongside his old buddies of Tetsuhiro "Tetsu" Tanaka and Chosuke "Cho" Tanabe, with Minami's looks that can be his granddaughter, one of the golfers on-site, the genius Haruka Akane, invites Minami to try out hitting the putt, only to be interrupted for her shift work at the same driving range.

Minami, still loving to put everything in game terms, tells Izumi of her special something being golf, and for once, she has found something that she wants to do. Akane teaching Minami the ropes of golf as a way to find her new obsession, and the former's aspirations and experience certainly leans into the latter wanting to become the proragonist of her life...and it starts from a golf course, and the stroke shots which will propel her further.

This Sports CDGCT is a show in the works, and it delivered on the bit for the start. Expect something out of this chill one.

Was only a matter of time before the actual anime of this was to come, after that OVA four-ish years ago that is. They used those four years wisely though, don't fret. This show is looking like one of the better shows production wise this season. From a unique art style, good backgrounds, and CDs that aren't your normal copy paste from every other seasonal slop, and we got ourselves a show that does just above the bare minimum.. which should be the norm, but for reasons, isn't.

But yeah, it's your average CGDCT setup. Main girl thinks she isn't good at anything, and just so happens to find the one thing she never knew she was actually good (or is fun), and with some other girls, they make a group of that thing, and it just goes from there. This time, the thing being golf, ofc. Main girl is pretty much as generic as you can get when it comes to these type of MCs. But the side character though, Haruka specifically... yeah, she'll keep the show interesting for the time being. As well as Minami's friend from school.

But you know how it goes, the girl finds the hobby or thing they want to do in the show, and then after contemplate whether or not they do want to actually do it for the rest of the episode, until they do eventually cave in and go ahead thanks to one of the other girls in the group giving them that push. We haven't met that other girl from the OVA yet, but we did see her via the news of something, so for now it's just Minami and Haruka.

Yeah, production values and cast will carry this one, and hey, I haven't a problem with that ofc.

I have waited a long time for this.

Not a big fan of Birdie Wing or Ooi! Tonbo, but this feels a nice golf anime for my taste. CGDCT theme is obviously the biggest reason for that.

Golf and CGDCT, let's see how this formula works, it's pretty good so far. Decent ED and good OP, because Masayoshi Oishi.

Despite better production, this anime seems to be inferior to modern golf anime like Birdie Wing, Oi! Tonbo, and Rising Impact.

Very chill and cozy anime for sure!

Minami and Haruka form a great comedy duo lol.

Minami wants to be a protagonist? Well she is one anyway.

Liked the animation and it's perfect for CGCDT. Also OP and ED were good!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

@phantomfandom - Have only also watched "Oi! Tonbo" but I do agree that, that show feels like it will end up being stronger than this one.
I will hold out on judging already though - even if all this "protagonist" talk makes our main character deliberately cringe-y in vibes.
Then again, on the other hand, she is really just saying that she want to be the best at the activity she engages with, which isn't strange at all.

It feels like this show is gonna have even more casual vibes than "Oi! Tonbo" did, so maybe it will more be a "Yuru Camp" or "Yama no Susume" experience; that is certainly what I am hoping for.

Golf with girls, huh? I will give it a chance, considering it’s a sport that's rarely explored in anime.
The animation is satisfactory, with a focus on the detail of the golf courses and the fluidity of the movements during the matches. The idea of looking for something new to lean on is also cool, but I wonder if she had joined shogi like her friend, haha. It would be a shogi anime instead of golf. I prefer golf, I guess.

Visually, pretty solid but the first episode felt pretty dull to watch, especially considering the amount of golf anime that have been coming out in recent times to refer to. Didn't have the explosiveness of Birdie Wing (even though that series ended up majorly disappointing for me) nor did it have the heartiness and longetivity potential that a character journey like Tonbo had. Seems casual but is more boring than relaxing-fun to me, like the vibes the first couple seasons of Yuru Camp had. Not sure about this one.

Cute lesbians golfing? Close enough, welcome back Birdie Wing. Early AOTS contender. Loved the first episode, Minami and Haruka are adorable and minus the mafia plot from birdie wing, this scratches that itch. Love the idea of Minami trying to find something she can obsess and hyper-fixate over because of a gacha game ending 😭 that would definitely be me if FGO ever ends

It’s also really cool how Haruka told her that everyone can play golf their own way. Some play for individual accomplishment, some to get that perfect hit and some to just have fun. It’s a sport where you can get out what you want. Just depends on what you’re looking for.

The designs look good, yuri teasing, it’s wholesome and sweet. I’m hooked. These girls are gonna be special aren’t they?

Hisashiburi and okaerinasai! Great opener, nice way to meet the main girls and some nice ojiichan support. I was just at the point of thinking that first half episode all those years ago was a fever dream, but now it’s really here.
Not comparable to Birdie Wing, that was romance and gang stuff and special moves. Closer to the Tonbo vibe but starting from noob level, so really an original golf girls story. Please keep it going just like this, no silly drama just …this.

The anime staff also made a couple of collaborative illustrations with Tonbo and Birdie Wing:

Anime production wise, this looks promising. I admit I'm not really into sports anime but if there's a cute girl as the protagonist , why not. I like this type of protagonist where she still try to find herself, sort of a normal setup of a coming of age I would say. Though I'm aware there are already cgdct golf anime before and OVAs with the same name, this is gonna be my first pick on such genre. I could say this vibe with me so I ended up picking it up. First episode is pretty typical but still solid for first episode.

Wow! I want to go right out and buy myself a set of clubs and hit the course.

I’m really pretty picky about the sports anime that I watch however, this one just Flowed nicely. At first, when they’re in the classroom, I thought oh no this is gonna be one of those goofy wacky comedy anime however, the genuine feelings are conveyed as she is discovering this sport that she never thought of Playing. I’m really excited and I rated it an eight out of 10 because I like the animation even though it’s very simple I like the vibrant colors which is perfect for an outdoor sport like golf and the characters our ideal to encourage in brighten, her view of the sport.
I can’t wait for the next 11 episodes.

I watched the OVA earlier today and didn't like it. It's a promising start for what is supposed to be a boring game but might be fun from the lens of this anime.

Minami is a good protagonist who is challenged in her reflexes, something I can relate with.

Haruka is a waifu plus mentor.

The first few minutes didn't do a great job at selling the show, but it became good after. I'll have to spend a few more episodes with the main girls before I can say if it's mastered "the vibes." I think it'll be good though, I'll be with it till the end.

After the Special a few years ago which I thought was pleasant, albeit short, it is nice that it has been take up as an anime. The episode was cute but waned at the start, it felt dull and wasn't amusing until she came back the next day and hit it. Then it started for me to become a little more promising.

The characters are sweet and it's quite a chill anime to watch and having never watched a golf anime inspires me to maybe try out golf!

Cool first episode.

The protagonist ends up having to stop doing what was taking up her "time" and go look for something else, like Sports, Cooking, Work or etc... but unfortunately she's not good at it lol, and ends up failing at them all.
Then, by coincidence, she helps a man who needs help to go to golf "training", so she gets to know the sport and ends up enjoying seeing a girl practicing it, with her enthusiasm she ends up researching more about the sport, how it works, etc. ..
She ends up returning the next day, and meeting up with the girl, so her decision is to practice the sport and be who she was as the "protagonist".

I liked this beginning, the protagonist was not just looking for something that pleases her, but that she would like, be really good, to be the "Star", she wants to spend her effort on something that pays off, not too simple, that It's interesting lol

It kicks off with a charming and light-hearted vibe, offering a slice-of-life experience that feels refreshing. The characters are likable, and there’s a nice sense of chemistry between them, making their interactions enjoyable to watch. The animation is pleasant, with soft colors and a calm atmosphere that complements the laid-back nature of the story.

While it doesn’t bring anything groundbreaking to the genre, the episode establishes a solid foundation with a good balance of humor and warmth. It’s a fun, feel-good start with potential for more as the series progresses.
