Is the original canon? If no, then is this canon? If yes, then which one is better and which one I should watch? Is the animation for this good?

It's easier to watch this since it'll release weekly and one episode per week is not much compared to the old one which has 100+ EPs. It's Canon and yeah it's good. I haven't seen Ranma either and I'm watching it for the first time too and enjoying it.

Watch the new Ranma, and if you feel like you want more, watch the original.

I did the same thing when watching Urusei Yatsura. I watched the new anime first and went to the original after really enjoying it. I'm 130 episodes in now

This is an adaptation of the best manga arcs plus the manga ending. The original has fillers and ended before the manga. So either will be enjoyable but different experiences

I would only watch the older version for the nudity and larger episode count, otherwise the remake is pretty solid.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

This one. This is a very great adaptation that mixes nostalgia and modernity very well. I’ve watched Ranma as a kid but I prefer this over the original. Only watch the original as second priority.

Canon to what?

Anyway, the old one is funnier and had way better music. This one has out of place over dramatic incidental music, and a little more focus on romance.
Old one knows is a comedy and everything is a gag. New one tries to hide is a repeating cycle comedy.
Ugly looking episodes in the old one look better than the ugly looking episodes in the new one.

It is adapted from a manga right? If yes then it should be obvious that 'canon to what?'.

Don't care about nudity but I anime with less fan service. If I wanted watch 'that' I would have watched H-anime instead.

I don't see the reason why should anyone watch the old series. The only thing that lacks in new one are no nipples, but that's it.

The original has 161 out of which 72 are fillers that leaves 89 eps in canon. Let’s say 40 eps aren’t the part of best arc as well. So we are left with 49 eps and first season cud cover 24 eps and if they make second season then they can cover another 24 EPS and that wud be good.
Plus this one isn’t a show like Naruto or attack on Titan wherein u hv to follow a chronological order seriously unless it has some tournament or training arc wherein Ranma looses n trains and face new foes. Even if that’s the case u can still skip and enjoy it.
Yeah u cud watch maybe season 1 and go on the net n sonebody wud hv made a list which arcs or eps this season covered n u can watch the rest that were not part of it.

The old series likely will have more episodes than the remake will ever get. I highly suggest watching the og.

More than the number of canon episodes or of them? I like shows with a lots of episodes but I don't like wasting time on fillers. One of reasons why I am not watch the original one piece anime since toei added lots of filler and it is not even possible to skip them since they are added in each episode and most the episode is filler.

The original is still the best adaptation for me thanks to the character design, Kenji Kawai's music and the fan-service.

if you're a horny guy craving for nipples then you can try to endure the large number of episodes counts and fillers and inconsistent animation by studio deen in the old series to see some nipples..... but if you are a decent human being then just watch the remake dude I guess the only thing that actually lacks in the remake is Kenji Kawai's music.

The original doesn't cover a lot of good stories from the manga and has 80/161 fillers episode. You can try it, but still you will eventually need to read the manga or watch something from the next seasons of the remake.

New one will adapt the manga without filler until the end. Old one has filler, slower pacing, and never got to the end of the manga.
Since you don't like nudity, I feel like I should warn you that this anime will have it regardless of the version (but remake is more censored), but most of the time it kinda gets presented as a casual, natural human thing more than horny. That's the way I see it at least. A friend of mine who also doesn't like anime with too much fan-service has been enjoying it so far.

People would claim all sorts of different things, but there is no way to answer until this version is done.

The original has two seasons.
One with 18 episodes (Ranma 1/2) and one with 143 episodes (Ranma 1/2 Nettou Hen). Occasionally both seasons are treated as one anime.

I recommend to watch the first season of the original anime, as it is the most charming. The second season is too long and repeats the same jokes over and over without any character making any kind of progress. A bit like an American sitcom.

The new anime is supposedly following the manga, but with the casual nudity removed and probably a bunch of offensive™ jokes cut out, given Netflix' involvement. We'll see.

I would recommend both tbh. The remake is a “best of” adaptation. It cuts a lot of content and abridged the events. The original is different enough to justify watching both. There are some hilarious scenes from the original that got cut from the remake. Also the fights in the original are worth watching

@LittlexLittle If you want something closer to the manga, at least for the first 36 chapters, yup. We will see about the rest

as far as I remember, the remake follows the show froms the 80s pretty closely, but with nicer animation. It's your call if you want to watch all 150+ episodes of the original

They are both great, but if you are new to Ranma, watch the new version as this follows the manga very closely and has nicer animation. This season will run for one cour, which is expected to cover the first 18 episodes of the original series, plue the three episodes involving the Golden Pair that were supposed to air as episodes 14-16 but were bumped to the second season because it came out at a time when there was a surge in kidnappings in Japan. But if you feel like you want more, the original series is also great to watch. Just keep in mind that about midway through the series it becomes a fillerfest, and episodes follow a mostly episodic formula from there. There are also numerous stylistic changes involved in the original series, such has having some of the stuff that's supposed to happen in the summer happening during the winter, among other things. Nevertheless, it's insanely funny stuff that's worth watching if you feel the need to watch more Ranma.

I am saying that I hate fanservice in anime and if I wanted to see nipples then I would have watched a H-anime. Which part of my reply made you think that I am hungry for nipples. I even orihime from bleach for having big oppai (literally) since it makes her a cheap fanservice character

@fast2611 Yes, everyone has their opinion about the OG and this remake. I suggest you to watch this first cour and then the first 21 eps of the original and make yourself an opinion. This cour will be extremly closer to the manga (chapters 1-36) of the original, but you could prefer the slow-paced style of the old one...
It's hard to say something more without not knowing how many (and which) episodes there will be... In any case OG didn't cover some of the best stories from the manga and the ending so, reading the manga or waiting for the remake is mandatory in any case

Tne original has a lot, A LOT, of episodes that do not add any sort of progress to the plot. If you're the type of watcher who has a problem with that, I suggest just sticking to the remake, which most likely will get rid of the vast majority of them.

Just got back to this anime (last watched ep 2, was watching other series)

But... man, there sure is a lot of thread talking about the censorship and apparently people that hates fanservice...

.

Well, if you really hate fanservice so much, you might as we just watch the new one with censorship. But there will still be some fanservices here and there, cause that's just the way they originally design it when they made Ranma do gender changes...

The only reason a lot of series now censors is cause of new age laws about showing nipples on TV, which didn't quite exist that much back when a lot of anime aired in the 80~early 2000s and showed nipples of either male or female.

There are only a few special late night stations that airs uncensor or when Blueray uncensor is releaed.

(as a note, not all Blueray will be uncensored, more and more series tends to just leave the censorship in for less work, and people will still be buying them regardless)
