Natsuki being fooled by Atri thinking that she has a heart enough to write romantic expressions of love, and it only truly brings out the worst in both characters.

All the times where Atri showed her heart towards him, it's all for show, which leaves Natsuki overwhelmingly devastated, all because she's a Humanoid who only responds best to the user's requests. However, the human heart is just as fickle, and right now as Minamo surmises, Atri needs a direction, and Natsuki can't be avoiding Atri forever. But Catherine's report on the Yamasaki Factory's 4th gen robots which were all recalled, of which Atri could be that potential outlier, there are just too many outliers...but one thing's for sure, she could go berserk as per Natsuki's orders.

Lo and behold, Yasuda from the Yamasaki Factory confirms that suspicion since he's part of the development team, and Atri...belonged to someone else instead of him. The curse of the company with Yasuda's mentor Konishi who developed a Humanoid meant to express human emotions that went berserk and got killed in the process, he's here to help Natsuki fulfill the last call to submit Atri to them to finish the total recall and recovery process.

The question now bringing forth to Atri herself, and she acts as the AI robot who knows right from cognition. But the basic heart of emotions wrangles the kids hostage with Yasuda committing anything he could do to remove Atri from his sight, being the one who killed his mentor. Natsuki, on the other hand, Atri's emotions are simple enough that "I love you" only makes sense to her owners, and Natsuki's about to teach a lesson to Yasuda.

Be it lies or whatever, Atri meant every word of her robot fibre, and Natsuki will do all he can to get her back.

Episode 2 of Man is sad that the Robot girl is in fact, a robot girl…

After the episode or 2 of them building water turbines, I’ve very much lost interest in this show, but I’m too far in now to stop.

How is he in love with Atri when Cathrine is right there 😭

Natsuki crashing out half the episode about Atri not really having a heart or loving him was heartbreaking, but seeing Atri get straight up beat there at the end by the Yamasaki goons got me so angry. Taking the kids hostage as well.. Seriously fuck that dude.

We got confirmation about some theories I’d been considering for a while, like Atri getting recalled after the school incident. But no one has really explained what the student did to prompt Atri to react that way. We saw in the flashbacks she was nice to Natsuki as a kid so I don’t really think she’d just up and hit someone for no reason. Probably got bullied and just didn’t know her own strength

Tough situation for the gang rn though, wonder how they’re gonna get out of this one.

No amount of rocket punches will bring enough justice for the crimes against Humanoid-anity we've witnessed this day.

And man, watching the light fade from Atri's eyes was absolutely cold.

pretty satisfied with how the anime is going. very dramatic indeed.

Now from this point on in the VN is where the player ultimately makes a choice. It would be cool if they adapted both endings but that is just wishful thinking...

@Boazanian We are probably getting true end (since a certain structure was flashed in the storm) or an original ending.

Just hoping they can nicely conclude in 4 eps without it feeling super rushed.

Minamo asked the question I've long entertained since before this series' existence, and which has been on my mind much of the time that this topic surrounding the potential "heart" of Atri or lack thereof has been such a focal point: What makes humans so different? Yes, Atri is responding to programming, learning on the fly from the reactions of others, testing and gauging others' reactions and responses to her statements and actions, and then committing the data to memory for adjustment of future behavior on that basis so she can more likely elicit desired reactions from others. Humans aren't the same in that respect? At least most humans of the normative neurotypical baseline. So instead of the mirror neurons, pulpy parenchyma, and certain voltages of bioelecticity powering/resulting from cellular reactions in evolved apes, it's semiconductors, other metallic circuitry, and "artificial" electricity powering them in the Humanoids, machines created in the evolved apes' image. If they are artificial or manmade machines, humans are organic machines. Both have autonomously running internal systems.

I don't see how one is more authentic or meaningful because it can be designed by scratch from other humans versus cannot be, or has a vessel of flesh and tissue with metal content limited to around 2.5% versus an array of Earth-sourced metals.

The "heart" - really just a stand-in word and imagery used for emotions and emotional range and depth, is just an abstract philosophical concept. Implicit in the assertion that something or some entire species does not have a "heart" is that it is a lower form of conscious life. That it has a comparatively weaker consciousness/awareness and sense of self than humans. But to prove Humanoids are not conscious in this sense, you'd first have to prove that humans are or what consciousness even is. Good luck.

On an unrelated note, this wasn't the case originally with the earlier episodes in the series when it was mostly Slice of Life day-to-day shenannigans like just convos over walks, cooking, and school activities, but now with all the high drama I really need my episode of the other android romance of the season, Boku no Tsuma wa Kanjou ga Nai, as a mental palate cleanser to balance out the feeling imparted from the recent episodes of this show. Which makes it doubly unfortunate that series ends next week so they'll be out of sync.

This episode turned the series 180 real quick.
Poor natsuki thrown into a emotional paranaoia and getting hit with the harsh reality check not knowings whats real or not everything about Atri.

Minamo is such great character and supporting figure, saying the right stuff and deep diving on what humans are & their profound connection with feelings and emotions how they are not that different but also similar to what atri was doing. Just the thing natsuki needed to hear tbh. Props to her

Natsuki stlll self doubting and keeps conflicting with his conversations with atri and seeing her switch from light mode to the dark mode was so painful tbh and somewhere you could see even she was disraught seeing natsukis condition.
Later we learn more on atris past and its a dark one from yasuda from yamasaki factory who was the student of atris creator and wants to take her back for termination & convincing natsuki to return her.
But kinda knew yasuda was kinda shady & confirmed later bro kidnaps kids at gun point to get atri. Apparently he just wants revenge on his creator because atris berserk lash out caused his mentors death. The beat down on atri was really brutal that too doing it infront of the kids makes it worse.

Natsuki slowly races back to the school on his broken leg while reaffirming his resolution and feelings about atri (i swear its rare to see someone roasting and complimenting lovingly at the same time) which was nice to see. He's finally arrived on time but what can they do tbh against gun wielding underling & the psychotic strength of yasuda. Will natsuki tell atri to fight back? Hope it doesnt become some sacrificial thingy and natsuki can get atri back safely.

Typical villain drama but think this will be done with by next episode and we'll get to know more about Atri and Shina backstory after that with us getting to know how Atri became more human interacting with Shina or that's what I think will happen. What did Natsu see in the sea btw? Interested in that.

I agree with Minamo’s perspective. Just like humanoids, we as humans also have a "program" that guides how we act or speak depending on the situations we find ourselves in. And if it's something we’ve never experienced, we learn from it and choose the best way to express ourselves. I feel like Natsuki was unnecessarily harsh with Atri, to the point of commanding her to act like a robot without showing any emotions. Now, he bears some responsibility for Yasuda hitting Atri.

There was a lot of drama, but what really piqued my interest was the incident involving the violence Atri caused toward a young girl, which seems to be clearly linked to Natsuki's grandmother.

I'm glad this episode is doing great, albeit a little too late, though.

The anime just got a 180 turn, and now we finally can enjoy its real premise.

To be blunt, I don't think the anime made justice to the source material, but not for the lack of effort. It's just too much to adapt in 12 episodes, since the VN is huge and has too many rutes, where you probably would get more info about the trama.

I've seen a gameplay and I'm thinking about playing the VN, myself.

So, I imagine the anime is going to turn up for the better now, but still too little too late.

About the episode, it's as expected, but that doesn't mean it's bad, of course ATRI has a heart, she just doesn't know what it is, and perhaps, neither do any of us.

It's the classic dumb MC trope, it can't be helped.

But it's infuriating that a supposed intelligent and smart MC don't get any clue about the situation... (he does, but too little too late) But he's a teenager, so we can say he still lacks emotional intelligence or something.

I think I'm going to play the VN to seek a better outcome, since this MF IS DUMB, oh my.

To be fair he probably wasn't at his best state of mind at that point, given he was pretty shocked about the diary reveal. At least he realized about it near the end of the episode.

last time they left us off with a cliffhanger

As usual we have a cliffhang again

So this ep uhm..It feels like they set up one cliffhang just to go into another one.
Honestly it feels like an ep 11, except there's still 4 more eps to go?
A lot to say and yet
This ep was super super fast though, its like they compressed an entire arc into one ep.
Or rather, the other eps (ep 678) was basically one arc in three eps

Damn, while I disliked how Atri was treated by both Natsuki and especially the guys from the car, I think Minamo gave a huge assist to Atri when she and Natsuki were talking about humanoids having a heart. Although it wasn't until towards the end of this episode that Natsuki saw the journal's writing and the tear stains that he realized Atri, at a minimum, really does care for him.

Regarding the incident where Atri may have gone berzerk, I think she was trapped in a situation like she is now although probably to a lesser degree like child bullying. Anyway, in the present situation I think Natsuki will yell at her to defend herself with that punch move she has (I forgot the name) and put a stop to that ridiculous abuse.

Two hints that Atri is conscious and not just a machine with a program.
1.At the beginning of the episode, after he orders her to stop acting like she has a heart, he asks her if she loves him. She answers that no, at the moment, she doesn't. If she were just a machine she would have given the answer that made him happy.
2.When he came back, he orders her to be normal again. She obeys. After that he tells her to not act again, and she obeys. But he didn't order her. He just told her. She did that by her own will.

Still, I'm not that convinced about that guy's motives, I get it, he is mad about Atri actions ruining that one professor's life, but I think he being the father of the kid Atri beat the of years ago would make his rage way more credible, I would have writen his character that way at least.

After all, Atri might have a heart, but as any robot, if her master programmes her to do something, her AI will obey its command. She is not like she used to be anymore. This episode ended in such a big cliffhanger and there were a lot of emotions.

Yasuda trying to destroy Atri will bring a lot of casualties, so I think Natsuki has a worthy plan for that.

Yasuda is just an idiot, they had Atri's OG diary for so long, never noticed the tear marks apparently..... (Natsuki did, but he is also an idiot for not noticing them at the end of the new diary)

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines

is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Other then beating up Atri, I agree with the bad guy. Atri will respond in the most logical way to get the response that is desired and isn't going to act irrational like a human does. A humanoid isn't ever going to have a real heart. The "I love you" is another response from Atri that she knows is the one Natsuki wants to hear.

Holy crap, this episode gave me whiplash from how rushed it was. Why even give the villain a scene where he was somewhat believable as a morally righteous person, then immediately have him pointing guns at kids lmao. Also Natsuki's change of heart from a single wet spot on the page was so rushed and contrived.

But like, I'm in too deep at this point, might as well finish it, but wow this show took a nose dive.

Ok, we can probably agree that this isn't the right way to dispose of humanoid robots.
I don't think it's necessary to add that level of violence to the show, it's a Frontwing VN,
but that should not be such barbaric shock value stuff as shown.

The professor probably just wanted a fight with superior machine (and rape her if they want to make it more unbeatable for the viewer).
But you know I hated this scene Atri is small, innocent, I don't want to see cute girls getting tossed around and beaten up.

I think Atrii can win against the stupid human, would be a bit early to mark her as destroyed.
I actually hope she goes Berserker and kills that guy,
