Sunraku just can't catch a break. After escaping, he fights in an arena although he is more thrilled for the challenge. This was more of a chance for him to prove himself again by fighting various monsters in different rounds.

This was one of the most RPG based episode I've seen.

A pet peeve I have with some stories, is setting up a series of seemingly tough challenges, but then the story just glosses over most of them anyway. Why not just have 2 or 3 obstacles to clear and end up at the same result?

The only way it can be justified is if the monsters here will be encountered later on in the story, otherwise it was just a bunch of needless explanation.

Why would I spend my time watching shows I don't like? πŸ’’

@_Banky How terrible that anime didn't let us watch how he got anihilated by pooping bird 127 times! Considering how many he died, it wouldn't make difference between having 3 challanges or 9. It still would gloss over 99% of whole thing. As for "needles explanation", yes that's absolutely true it isn't relevant to story... but it's relevant to gaming and this is literaly playthrough the anime.

Oh, the part in Japanese was translated too! Literally it means "Journey to hell together with you".

I wonder if stretching in the game actually does something lol.
What level is Sunraku currently again? If he can beat all those enemies that have much higher levels than him, he is really damn skilled.
The animation was quite good this episode!

@Tenzen12 It's hardly about the numbers involved, it's more about the unnecessary nature of it. MMORPG or not, it's still a story that's being told. That point of the episode was so irrelevant even MC himself pointed it out - that's what I'm saying. The early fight against the single Vorpal Bunny was way more engaging than setting up an arena of 9 or 10 obstacles when in reality, only the final one matters.

Please understand, I'm not taking a dump on this show in particular, many other shows do stuff like that (hence, the pet peeve), I'm still enjoying the anime and all that.

You should trust your opinion.

The quality difference between that first fight versus this is huge. Some drop is expected, but the writing for these last few episodes... yikes.

It won't be surprising to see this end up as a story that breaks apart under any scrutiny with great looking boss fights. It'll be enjoyable I'm sure, but the seams are starting to show.

Kind of a shame that we didn't get to see most of the enemy gauntlet in action. Even a very brief animation sequence of each fight during Sunraku's explanation would have been great. This wasn't the only section either. There was a ton of corner-cutting in this episode, as far as animation goes. At least there were still a few sequences that looked really nice. I guess that is enough to distract most from the drop in overall quality from the early episodes.

The start of the episode was kind of nice with seeing Rei meet Hizutome in game somehow and her enjoying that in her mind, even if the interaction itself isn't the most romantic one in reality. Rest of the episode though was pretty boring again and while it is nice seeing Sunraku enjoying the games and the challenges that come with it for the most part, the actual challenges feel vapid and somewhat glossed over and lacks intensity or fun besides the animation to make it exciting, and the animation was better in the earlier episodes too since it does feel a bit lacking to look at in comparison to the earlier ones (although that is natural for many series to be honest). I don't know, it just became a drag for me to watch in that second half unfortunately. There are aspects to this series that are good and kind of refreshing but the majority of it still doesn't click like the rest of the counterparts that have similarities with this one.

Can confirm flying types are the most annoying enemies to fight in any game. I do wonder how he beat it though, did he throw his knives in the hopes that at least one of them will hit?

Lol Sunraku escape by stepping on her face, and ofc the girl like it because why not. Pencil knight end also funny. She needs to log out with Animalia together, which actually kinda so sweet for both of them tho, if only they can fix things between them, together. Interesting to know what kind of meeting they do as a fellow kusoge hunter tho. Forming up an alliance already after all the fights, i guess?

Before that, time to focus on the unique quest now. Sunraku had it rough there, but somehow manage to reach the last stage by however time he spent inside those rabbit hidden village colloseum. Tho i do wonder why the hell Sunraku not spending any stat point first before facing those woodmage smh. Overconfidence can hurt you, birdman. So 1000 attempt shall be a good number for him to finish the quest up from the rabbit aniki. But little bunny will still praise the birdman with her usual desu wa whatever time has been wasted there. Its just normal, and, very interesting....

It's probably just following the source material, no point changing source material from 10 to 3 when they can just speed it up like they did. If this was an original story I would understand what your saying, but I'd rather them follow source material even if it's abridged version. No it wouldn't really hurt story if they changed it, but at end of day they were just gonna show what they could and setup next episode for the final boss fight.

There's also he gained 2 levels after all those high level fights with his collar restrictions, gaining 2 levels with 2-3 fights with same restriction might seem off.

Sunraku managing to get out of that dangerous situation of all those player killers demanding information about the unique scenario. Luckily when you get high level players together no matter the circumstances they usually end up fighting each other even if otherwise intended. The shaman and Arthur Pencilgon negating one another from the fight, while Sunraku just got plain lucky that Rei aka Psyger0 showed up when she did. Rei being a super high level player to make even those others shake and hesitate. Sunraku stepping off her helmet and saying sorry being their only interaction was almost disappointing but Rei cherishing that simple moment later in the episode was actually funny so its fine. She can spend more time with Sunraku next they meet. Sunraku himself having to now deal with even bigger problems. This training colosseum is no joke, different high level monsters being sent his way. That first one with the team of wolves was interesting, speeding through the rest made things move quicker so we didn't have to sit through tons of fights. I liked seeing how each monster wasn't necessarily stronger than the last just that they made Sunraku think differently how to defeat them. Leading to this monster no ones ever seen before being his final opponent.

You just have to appreciate how believable Sunraku's speech about defeating bosses is compared to a player's experience in some games. In reality you won't just beat every boss first try, there's the attack pattern recognition, the attributes, skills and so much more which can make your life harder or easier (just look at that bird which took him more than a 100 tries to beat). Also, that opponent is quite the mysterious one.

In the meantime we get to see just much into Hizutome that girl is that even after getting stepped on she got so excited for being in the recieving end of the word "Sorry". Hopefully she get further developed down the line.

Is the 10th fight a unique encounter? It's the first time encountering this enemy type. I have a hunch that this foe is usually associated with or triggered by a significant world event.

Thanks to Psyger-0's efforts, Sunraku successfully escapes from Pencilgon and the others. Safely arriving at the Third Lemma, he embarks on the unique scenario Invitation from the Rabuitza. However, what awaits him is an arena where he must battle ten monsters, and the creatures prove to be of a higher level than Sunraku could have imagined, starting from the first one.

Rei finds unparalleled joy in a simple apology. It seems she might just "die" when they... hold hands. Surprisingly, Animalia proves capable of handling Pencil, showcasing its unexpected strength. The furry character is undeniably overpowered. In the game of avians, a bird serves as both an offensive move and Sunraku's counter. As a gamer, I genuinely value the ongoing dedication they demonstrate towards the game mechanics. It appears that this commitment is likely to persist for quite some time.

Sanraku's luck remains dormant in the Kuso Bird battle, suggesting that it only activates during critical moments—or, in other words, his luck seems to have run out.

@_Banky Again this is game and game does game things. If it didn't, it would SAO. I am glad you enjoy show, but at least in this particular episode you are missing point of these consecutive fights. Which is

a) show its game nature
b) hammer that Sunraku isn't OP but that he develops various tactics through repeated try and error method and of course never giving up (though we already knew that.)
c) show how he fare agelainst different kind of enemies. Which he is strong against and which he can't deal with well.

Great episode as always, really do wish that we had a game this large and intense. Pysger-0 is better as a player than when we see her lovesickness emerge. Definitely on of the -deres, but on of the annoying types. Might become a yandere if they ever started dating based on how she treated the PKers after she "talked" to her love, which could be interesting. Looking forward to the fight next week and what pencil and the other gal want to talk to sunraku about

@Tenzen12 You're right, and I know showing the variety of monsters and challenges MC has to overcome is important, I just don't think the whole setup of a gauntlet is worth it, if it's just filled with forgettable fodder.

It's not impossible to do those things without making them feel unimportant. Like Hunter x Hunter's Greed Island arc; lots of exposition for the mechanics of the setting but none of it ever felt like filler.

If later on, MC does use some of the tactics he comes up with here, then it'd be vindicated and I'll simply take the deserved L.

All that buildup for the last 3 episodes to just solve it by using Psyger-0 as a trampoline and call it a day? What a scam.

For a show that allegedly works on agility tactics and pretty much real time blows, it awfully relies so often on large infodumps during the real action, such as Bestgirl throwing a long monologue on how her curse works, it feels more like a turn based RPG than an actual MMORPG. The author could have been more subtle and give her so time on the spotlight after the fight while she ponders on how her abilities work (that would also had served as proper background info about her).

A show with no stakes, no plotline, no character driven narrative that it's only praised for it's sakuga, it's now even reduced to being great in the 1 minute sakuga per episode that doesn't get padded with tons of worthless info (such as stalker girl repeating the same soliloqui) nor cheap animation recycling used as flashbacks/recaps.

@Tenzen12

Again this is game and game does game things. If it didn't, it would SAO.

For better or worse, SAO has left it's name in the anime world with several sequels and even spinoffs. This show won't be even remembered once it's over, specially seeing how each episode just gets worse and worse in terms of content.

Pretty good Episode. I'm glad they mostly skipped over the arena rather than showing every fight fully. Would have gotten boring if it was 2-3 episode of that. Mildly disappointed that Psyger-0 didn't get to talk to Sunraku, but I guess they gotta keep that hook going.

Absolutely loved the last couple seconds at the end of the dog fight! Very nicely animated.

Also funny how they briefly showed the Toxic Eagle fight in the SLF Theater after the ending. The Toxic Poop from the Snake, now from the Toxic Eagle too. Sunraku is gonna have some traumatic psychological scars from all the poison poop after 112 tries on the Toxic Eagle.

@uchiha_yasso I have to rewatch the previous episode, but I think PKs have "bounties" that Pilgrims and NPCs can cash-in on. Pencilgon even mentions it as to why they wanna keep Sunraku out of Thirdrema. It's more than likely they'll get mobbed by everyone in town.
