THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Well, the club has the resources for this. It all depends on how they can get everything together. Seems that the sound element of the robot animation will be an important part of their project.

I love the bits of creativity they added to this episode from a narrative point of view. The trendmill scene was gold. These kids are learning more and more everyday.

Wonder if they'll fit another anime after the Tank and Robot ones. The attention to detail and the relationships between the main protagonists is what makes this anime so endearing so I wonder what the other half of this anime has in store.

I think they would. The first anime took up 4 episodes, and assuming that episode 7 is more working on it and episode 8 is showing it off, they should be able to.

Not sure how to feel about this episode. Lots of time wasted talking to SFX guy and his unnecessarily realistic sounding vomiting gag (and a convoluted way to get some sound effects). All of this shit with the over-the-top student council seems lout of place in this anime.

It's weird to see her worry about the unrealistic robot setting when their actual school setting is incredibly cartoonish. Sometimes this anime is too anime to make their anime feel like anime.

Kanamori is Fucking hilarious, bro. So many funny scenes from this ep, it seemed like it was longer than usual from her "taking them out" to Ramen, to threatening the audio club kid and being smart enough to record them shaking hands on the deal, to "everyone knows you can't trust street gangs, criminals and Eizouken" lol.

All creatives need a Kanamori in their circle to keep them on track and focused, Asakusa wanting to completely scrap the robot idea is a perfect example. As a creative, you're never satisfied with your work and are constantly looking to improve and tweak it, but at a certain point, you've just got to be confident in what you've made

I love this show so much, it's perfect love letter to the anime industry.

Also, nice Eva reference with the mech sequence lol

The treadmill scene was pure gold.
When Asakusa mentioned scraping the robot idea out, my heart stopped for a bit. But it was just some kind of art block.
Anyway, anime halfway already. Looking forward to see that robot anime finished.

What an absolute gem this show is. I can't believe it's not even in the top 10 for currently airing anime in terms # of members. A lot of folks missing out.

Another day at the Motion Pictures Club, and soon they'd have another offer, this time from the art club. But the current problem faced now is each person's progress towards the entire production.

Even at the most simplistic of frame/panel drawing, so much creativity is given, and it's not just a "one trick pony" thing. And Kanamori is dealt with most of the administrative issues to help keep the production afloat while scouring for resources.

The treadmill scene was wholesome, fitting the various moods but with those weird sound effects, regardless the club needs some of them to make their anime, and the sound club is officially onboard.

Finally, landing at the art club, Asakusa and Kanamori discuss arrangements...but Asakusa flames her brain out at the last minute so another inspiration must be taken, and there's no alternative for scrapping their robot anime project. Welp, so much for conflicting ideas.

Anyways, with Asakusa at the helm, she bears the responsibility for the production as director, and if any time's the time to go all out, her motivation switch is turned on now.

Slowly but surely, this robot anime production must not be stopped now!

the animation in this episode is weak ah well the production schedule is tightening up then im sure

but still an enjoyable episode so Asakusa is the director eh and guess that Kanamori is really the producer and production assistant while Misuzaki is the main animator

LOOOOL DFKM !!!! ... sound girl hearing the footsteps and puking haha
I swear Asakusa just gets more and more interesting each episode,
Her personality is so quirky and enjoyable to watch!

The team’s attachment to the Giant robot theme really makes me happy. There’s something quite special about Kaijus and Giant robots, and while it’s true anime doesn’t really have them anymore, as was mentioned last episode, when done well ...it is a joy to watch !

It feels like I’m watching the making of nostalgic Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla in anime form. Especially that short storyboard action sequence with the robot being activated....reminds me of why I, and so many others seem captivated by robots and the scenarios they can create.

Really great stuff!! Can’t wait for more

So is that the real reason behind all those schematics of robots in anime? the creators not buying the original design and trying to justify it.

Also their team has already doubled in size with the addition of sound and back ground, I wonder how big it'll end up when they finish(they need voice actors too).

This anime is so relatable. Especially the feeling of wanting to scrap everything and start over. I like how shy Akakusa is about telling people what to do compared to Kanamori. And the motivation switch is real...After watching the episode, I was able to work on my design homework outside the school environment when reasonably my motivation switch would be off. Also, I don't know why anyone would keep sound effects in physical form (not a sound person obvs). I mean I get using real film and using animation cels. But all the sound guys I knew used digital sound files.

Not the best episode - it didn't focus on cool technical animation stuff as much as the others, and I think that's what this show does best. The character interactions really saved this one for me. I hope hope hope this doesn't start to feel repetitive.

I don't think those are mutually exclusive (and I wasn't really complaining). I don't mind variation but I find the show's "real life" sections less compelling than its more imaginative sequences, and its dialogue is weaker when it's not "animation talk," both of which were notably lessened in this episode. If the show wants to focus on more parts of anime production, I want it to bring the same creative energy and life to those aspects.

I don't recall more than 2 min. overall of non-production-centric dialog. And even the few moments of dialog that don't revolve around the production of the anime served to emphazise and expand the main trio's character traits.

Kanamori is tough and ambitious, but shows a softer side and is also shown to be a very hard worker. Azakuza keeps having trouble expressing herself with people she doesn't know that well, and now we also know a bit more about her creative process and curious personality. Mizuzaki is still the least developed of the 3, but even this chapter we're still getting hints that her family is strongly against her persuing an animation career, a problem that they'll eventually have to face.

What i'm tryna say is, the fact that there isn't much "happening" on-screen doesn't mean the story and characters aren't moving forward.

These three girls sure make a good team! I really like to see how Kanamori deals with people in order to have her way, especially if it involves her blackmailing some of them. xD

This said, I'm glad they are receiving help form the art club as well as the SFX girl. Now, they can focus only on their specific tasks without unnecessary pressure.

That whole last segment reminded me of what it's like to write a story. Constantly worrying about story flaws and things that may not make sense. And of course, trying to satisfy everyone with your writing and story.
The most important thing is to write something fun, and something that you would be satisfied with in the end.

God I love this anime.

Without counting the sequels, this is this winter's best anime by far. Finally a breath of fresh air, uncontaminated by fanservice. A story with a wonderful and creative world, that is all about passion and what that passion means for these protagonists of ours. Their quirks, so wonderfully expressed in the setting of their day-to-day life. A development of friendship at its purest, accompanied by an animation that is pleasing to the eye, and uses the imagination of the characters to exaggerate the dialogues and thus letting us in their minds. Truly a work of art.

It's hard to put it into words on why I like this show so much I like everything about it down to all the stages of production and the setbacks and the worry's people would have creating one.

I liked we got to see more asakusas creative process and her worry of trying to satisfy Everyone which is impossible, and to give things that might make no sense , sence ,

I think one of the main things Creator's should do is make something you are satisfied with and not put to much thought about satisfying Everyone there are down to be people that like the work and Direction's it takes etc

Please tell me I'm not the only dummy who started tearing up at the end. As someone who tries to write stories but relates way too much to Asakusa, Kanamori's speech was just what I needed. Of course I'm not a director or anything so the pressure most likely is much less important for me, but still, that ending scene really touched me, as weird as it may sound. It's funny how this anime is about animation, something I don't practice, but is making me want more and more to go back to creating stories and characters. Seeing so much passion, not only in the characters but also the actual creators, is just so inspiring. When I started watching this show, I never thought it would touch me this much.
I came for the memes, I stayed for the passion. (And the memes too, not gonna lie.)
It may sound stupid and exaggerated but I am truly grateful to those who worked on this anime (and manga, let's not forget Yuasa isn't the original creator).
