Yup, they definitely need a plan to effectively deal with the monster. Iroha has to work with these magical girls together. I kinda like how this show so far pushes every character to be all important.

Following Iroha's perspective is quite an experience to see the obstacle she must overcome. Shaft's animation cinematography sells the scenes with great quality imo. A lot of emotions this episode.

Rest of girls joins w. blue long hair girl. It's hard for the girl to say "sorry" for the first time. Because that girl always apologize when she wanted to apologize.

The witch got captured immediately found. Deleted the bell w. "Nakanaori" (made-up) power.

So it was true about her sister, somehow.

Twintail girl (the one who got killed in main anime) after ED.

There's an after credits scene! missed me some mami.

Yay, glad Funi got the ep up on time this week.

Man, I really love SHAFT's direction. The quick cuts and change in camera angles, switching from one character to another rapidly, the colours used in scenes, they just get better and better. Glad the girls were able to work it out in the end, real friends.

Welp, back to sleep. Can't wait for next week

Been waiting to see some henshin and they delivered. That 4-way transformation was dope.

Also, THE POST-CREDIT SCENE! :O

Damm the train caused quite the mess. Given the threat posed by the witch enlisting the aid of Yachiyo was a great move on Momoko's part. Damm that staircase looks so forbidding not to mention steep. Hmm the magical girl transformation effects were pretty nice with Rena's and Iroha's being the most unique. Even though Rena ended up expressing all of her pent up frustration of Kaede at least it gave plenty of fuel for her sincere apology towards her. The fight to get to the core of the dungeon though was pretty amusing due to Kaede and Rena's convo. The teamwork between Momoko's team members sure were impressive. In the end its nice that not only was the witch vanquished but also that Rena and Kaede managed to make up. Overall a solid ep that featured a good blend of action, friendship and mystery. Looks like this rumour is only the vanguard of the new witches that are starting to appear. The after credits scene featured quite the interesting appearance from the main series as well while also promising a rather curious situation that Iroha will encounter later on.

After the very mediocre second episode, this one seemed quite a lot better again. Especially liking the post-credits scene setting up future plot. If I had one complaint, it's that the witch/uwasa battle scene was pretty lacking in spectacle. Hell, the transformation scenes were at least double the coolness compared to the battle itself. Also wondering why Kuroe hasn't made a return yet.

Great episode, im glad they showed Mami in the post-credit scenes. I wonder when does " Also in Kamihama is Madoka, who's searching for the similarly-missing Homura." kick in, is Homura the reason QB can't enter Kamihama?

Also why is this listed to have 13 episodes now, wasn't it confirmed to be 26? Or is it a split cour maybe?

Dat after credit scene though! Mami's back ya'll! And she's trending #11 on Twitter right now, I just love the fanbase for this show!

Only about time before the other girls start appearing in this mysterious town now I reckon, on another note.

Which reminds me, Yachiyo is really giving off the Homura vibe at the moment. My prediction of the Coordinator appears to be a little off but I've mild suspicions on her too.

Anyway, that whole sequence of the girls transforming followed by the battle plus the sweet outbursts and whatnot was really intriguing to watch. Confused for a while albeit but that's just Madoka Magica for you, I suppose.

Lol, that tsundere-y flourish though. "F-Fr..Fr..Frie. B-Be my Servant!", gold xD.

It's pretty amazing how they covered the "Friendship Stair Witch" plus a hint for the next episode/arc to pick up on though, I've to say. A little pacey as a result, quite admittedly, but so far so good.

Surprisingly, no Op for the episode. I'm just glad they used the whole time-frame to fit things accordingly so no biggies from my side.

I feel like we'll be getting one mystery solved and/or introduced by the episode from Iroha's dreams...

I was personally disappointed that the show did not take the totally dark route and kill off Kaede (for now, at least), but at the same time, I can still appreciate the more optimistic-looking approach of the story (so far). At least this alternative setting is trying to be its own thing. Rena and Kaede are pretty much representative of both sides of the same coin.

Mami showing up at the end, though....looks like the original cast bout to crash the party.

The transformation sequences were all sick, ngl. When Rena said something among the lines of 'I'll say it when we get out of here', I could swear one of them wouldn't get out, but I was wrong.

It was nice seeing Mami in the post-ED scene.

Thank god sweet girl Kaede is alright! They didn't show her at the beginning so I was worried she got killed and they forgot she existed

Little Kyuubey is so cute, wonder what's his role in the story and why the regular sized Kyuubey can't enter Kamihama. Guess we'll know soon.

I'm not sure if you're attacking my opinion of something, but I never said I wanted a straight ripoff. I was hoping for it to have the same tone as the OG, though. But who knows? We may be in for more twists and perhaps this might be false salvation for the girls.

That was pretty great. Episode had me guessing how this would all end horribly - but then it didn't but left another secret hanging in the air. What else can I say? Thoroughly enjoyed this episode and I'm really looking forward to seeing when it all comes crashing down.

Visuals are top notch again, and I'm not just referring to the animation quality but also to the angles and background settings. Then again, Shaft has always been good at that.

A lot of people seem really hyped about Mami - is this because they've read the manga where she is developed more? In the show she's mostly a boring (but necessary) straight-man.

The beginning of the episode was strange, why Iroha had a dream about that fight of the friends of Ui ?, this already seems more memories of the same Ui.

At last we meet the coordinator, Mitama has that mysterious and seductive charm that sometimes attracts my attention and the girl who saved Iroha and Kuro is also presented as Yachiyo and seems upset that Iroha disobeyed her, but Mitama proposes to adjust the Soul Gem of Iroha so that she can fight at the level of Yachiyo and the other magical girls of Kamihama.

The stairs that end friendships turned out to be a rather spooky, dark and disturbing place.
I loved how Shaft made the transformation to Yachiyo and Momoko's magical girl, Yachiyo's was beautiful and elegant, with feelings of melancholy and Momoko's was aggressive and intense, Momoko's red-hot fighting spirit. Rena's I found it interesting, I guess it matches the ability to transform her and the cute Iroha I love her adorable hood.
Apparently Rena had many negative feelings towards Kaede, she even admit to hate her, but even so she wants her to come back and apologize for forcing her to be friends, these feelings managed to call the witch of the chains.

I loved the sequence of the fight in the chain witch's kingdom, especially in how Rena and Kaede talked about their differences and what they both felt about their friendship, it is finally they who defeat the witch, but strangely the witch did not leave a grief seed, Yachiyo's suspicions may be true and something strange happens in Kamihama.
In the end Kaede and Rena are friends again, Rena is very stubborn, but I hope she does her part and takes care of Kaede too.
There is hope for Iroha, thanks to Rena she finds out that the Nemu and Toka were in the hospital, now it only remains that she finds them, how good that Iroha has hopes of finding her younger sister, I hope she continues to have them.
I do not believe the post-credit scene, Mami will go to Kamihama at the request of the filthy rat of Kyubei, I hope this is not the preamble to a fight between magical girls or worse, that Mami meets a powerful witch (I hope that nothing happens to Mami, I still have bad memories about her final destination)

All those transformations were pretty bad ass! I like how that was animated! Great stuff! So they are going to solve this as a team, Yachiyo included.

In the end they managed to get Kaede back, the patched up their friendship again, that was pretty sweet! This whole episode was pretty damn gorgeous! Can't get enough of this style at all!

That post credit scene though! Mami Tomoe! With Kyuubey explaining what is going on, the hype is real. I wonder though, with Mami getting back, somewhere deep down I hope the other girls will come back as well.

I love how everyone (including me) is anticipating something terrible happening to these young girls XD

The episode itself flew by for me. The visuals, especially the transformation sequences, were incredible. Now I had just literally rewatched Rebellion yesterday, which made this series feel incredibly tame and simple to me. But I'm enjoying it, and I definitely won't get ahead of myself, especially with Mami heading into the heat of things. Definitely interested to see where this all goes!

I think there is something very important that separates this from madoka magica. While madoka is about the struggle with hope and despair, Record is about accepting, dealing and overcoming despair in a non destructive way. It introduces many characters quickly which may lead to confusion because that's how Iroha is living the experience, she didn't said hi to the girls and magicaly knew all about them. As Iroha meets Momoko trio while Kaede and Rena are not on the best of terms, just like we not always meet people when they are at their best. In some way Record (if it doesn't take a bad turn from the game) portraits within the nonsense that it is the madoka magica universe a more realistic aproach to interactions, relationships and feelings between people, you might don't agree with me, but in anime that's something that really doesn't happen, everything is very artificial, but here you will get loads of struggles that even with magic they can't be solved and the girls will sometimes act out of emotion cuz of them but overall overcome them in the same ways people in real life do. In general I'm loving the adaptation, the visuals are amazing as ever and the story telling is bomb, the pacing might feel rushed but if it goes acording the game, it makes sense and it will still give you all the juicy backstories you might want.

Mami is great in the show. Although she only appeared in the first three episodes, her internal conflict is good, she is a great fighter, a great veteran, a great friend and has a great sense of justice. Besides being the best magical girl.

Why do you keep calling the girls "witches"? They're Magical Girls, Witches are their enemies.

The anime came out before the manga adaptation. Mami might be a minor character, but she's well-rounded and emblematic of Madoka's subtle way of characterization. Reading context clues, you can tell she's far more than a "straight man," she's a person - she puts up a front, is incredibly lonely, slays witches to atone for her regrettably selfish wish and plays the benevolent magical girl to hide that self-perceived ugly fact. It says a lot when Homura states she is the most fragile of all of them.

Plus, like all the characters, her "refined English woman" vibe in both her outfit and her weapons speaks of Mami's desire to be perceived as someone far more composed and calm than she really is.

Mami is a damn solid character, and understandably a favorite to some, myself included. Her involvement in side material, especially this game and her and Kyoko's history in "The Other Story" did a lot to utilize what we already knew about her and characterize her to even greater effect.

Great insight. If we were to pin Magia Record with a theme, that would be it - even in the game. Even in this very episode, with Ui's friends, we see they're fitting into this overarching theme.

I truly hope this anime is two cours instead of one - we NEED a full season to properly flesh out and get attached to everybody, because believe it or not, between the main girls of the game and those of the OG show, the antagonists (those I as a player know are characters in the anime), Kyubey, Momoko's team, and others? This is a cast of near-20 damn characters! You cannot tell a well-paced story with this many characters in just 13-14 episodes.

My Hero Academia's recent arc, though it had many, many highs, had some glaring lows because of this unheard of again, even from where the manga is now.

Luckily, from what I heard JCurry did not like how the story went in the last couple chapters of the game. Judging from how "similar but different" the anime's story has been thus far, I have faith the team working on this show have a stronger narrative in mind that doesn't lose sight of its strongest feature: the characters.

The 26 episode claim came from a tweet by someone who failed to provide evidence. If they continue at the two episodes per chapter pace, one cour will bring them to the end of chapter 7, which isn't a terrible place to stop. Given how severe a rewrite this chapter got, they'll probably make it work even better as a conclusion.

The main problem with the battle is that there isn't enough of it. The familiars barely affected their conversation and the uwasa itself didn't even make a single attack. The connect/magia demonstration was cool, but it would've been better had it capped off a real fight.
Also wondering why Kuroe hasn't made a return yet.
If she's being used how I think she will be, it'll be a bit before she shows back up.

While I enjoyed the art, the transformations, the creepy atmosphere, and the post credits scene in this episode, I can't help but wanting higher stakes.

It coupd be a major death, a girl turning into a witch like in the original, or anything else that raises the stakes really.

Really good points about Mami actually.

That was a strange episode. At first I wondered, why it didn't start, where the last one left off and thought I missed something at the end of the previous episode, but it turned out I didn't. And then all that started just ended with the characters making up. It really didn't feel like I was watching something from the Madoka-franchise, I was expecting more from this. Currently it just has some mysterious feel to it with nothing more to it than a few concepts previously used in the Madoka-franchise.

And then there was the ending... to be honest, I'm not sure we even are. Sure, it's a somewhat alternative setting or story, but I'm not convinced about mixing old characters in this story. It also doesn't help making the already large cast any clearer. I just hope it doesn't end in most of the characters getting too few time on screen.

Another great episode. And now we're getting started with the main plot.

I saw someone else say the same earlier. Do you know where Inucurry stated that?

The 26 episode claim came from a tweet by someone who failed to provide evidence. If they continue at the two episodes per chapter pace, one cour will bring them to the end of chapter 7, which isn't a terrible place to stop. Given how severe a rewrite this chapter got, they'll probably make it work even better as a conclusion.

I seriously doubt they'd leave the story unfinished like that. Also, if the anime was going to be one cour, the obvious choice would've been to cut out the more irrelevant parts like Momoko's team and the Stairs Uwasa and the Mitakihara gang, and yet all of that's been left in.

The main problem with the battle is that there isn't enough of it. The familiars barely affected their conversation and the uwasa itself didn't even make a single attack. The connect/magia demonstration was cool, but it would've been better had it capped off a real fight.

Connecting magia sure is some fresh lore.

Nice Mami enters the stage. This was not what i meant when i wondered if the show would get headless but i'm glad to see her again
just because I’ve gotten weaker, doesn’t mean that you got stronger, does it?

So no one died in ep 3... but Mami, who died in Madoka's ep 3, shows up in the end credits!

Mmm hmmm, that soul gem adjustment thing sounds very... nice :D

This is not your planet to rule. The Fallen shall rise again.
