![]() The project will be based on Ayano Takeda's two-volume novel Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Suisougaku-bu, Ketsui no Saishuu Gakushou. The second and final novel is scheduled to ship on June 22. Takeda's novels received two TV anime adaptations and four movies. The first 13-episode TV anime aired in Spring 2015 and was followed by a sequel in Fall 2016. Two compilation films, Hibike! Euphonium Movie 1: Kitauji Koukou Suisougaku-bu e Youkoso and Hibike! Euphonium Movie 2: Todoketai Melody, summarized the events of the two TV series and premiered in April 2016 and September 2017, respectively. A side-story film, Liz to Aoi Tori, premiered in April last year that centers on Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki. Hibike! Euphonium Movie 3: Chikai no Finale premiered on April 19, and takes place during the students' second year. Crunchyroll provided a simulcast for both seasons on its platform. Pony Canyon USA shipped the first season as three collector's editions between June 2016 and August 2016, and released volume one of the second season in August 2018. Eleven Arts licensed Liz to Aoi Tori and shipped it on Blu-ray and DVD in March. Announcement Source: Comic Natalie Hibike! Euphonium: Kumiko 3 Nensei-hen on MAL |

Not even surprised in the slightest considering how much of a hit Liz to Aoi Tori and the Hibike Euphonium franchise in general is but pleasantly surprised nonetheless! It’s about time I binge the previous adaptions in preparation to this... Anyway, congratulations to the fans of the franchise! |

Yeah, read that earlier but still happy to read it again in MAL. El_Caguai said: I had seen on another website a very curious and revealing synopsis I still hope for the KumiRei ship :3 I have read the actual synopsis of the novel so it's fantastic that someone managed to squeeze that highlighted word in in the synopsis because it wasn't there in the actual one. Also, to make life easier for you and everyone else: Reina wants Kumiko to realize her real feelings for Shuuichi. She explains how Shuuichi is Kumiko's friend and lover at the same time which is confusing her being in a grey-area while clearly identifying as black and white that Kumiko and the others are her friends and Taki-sensei is the love of her life. Also, the breakup is temporary as Kumiko asked Shuuichi to return the hairpin after they are done with high-school music if he still felt the same way about her which Shuuichi agrees on. Basically, putting their relationship on a hiatus instead of a permanent breakup. It's made obvious in the novel that Shuuichi is Kumiko's only love interest and Chikai no Finale reaffirms that while Reina actually shown rooting for the two (through an empty soap bottle). Here is a list of those who are rooting for ShuKumi: Characters: - Kousaka Reina (aware of Kumiko's constant denial that she liked Shuuichi and wants to confide in her that she actually likes him, advises on her feelings for Shuuichi) - Kawashima Sapphire (feels responsible for pushing Hazuki and now roots for Kumiko) - Katou Hazuki (Realizes and starts rooting for them as atonement of trying to steal him) - Tanaka Asuka (teases Kumiko in the anime seeing her returning home from school) - Saitou Aoi (have always thought Shuuichi liked Kumiko and roots for Shuuichi) - Nakagawa Natsuki (teases Kumiko catching her talking about their families following a fist bump) - Gotou Takuya (roots for Shuuichi in the novel) - Nagase Riko (realizes that Shuuichi likes Kumiko and is supportive about it) - Hisaishi Kanade (teases Kumiko in the novel with the rumour of a first year trombonist) - Oumae Mamiko (teases Kumiko with Shuuichi after catching them on a date) - Oumae Akiko (very fond of Shuuichi and worries about his food habit) Real People: - Takeda Ayano (Author. Believes that Kumiko needs Shuuichi in her life. Kind of revealed in Roke Euphonium series that ShuKumi will prevail) - Asada Nikki (Original Novel Character Designer. Revealed through twitter) - Ishihara Tatsuya (Chief Director. Revealed through Roke Euphonium Series) - Ikeda Shoko (Original Anime Character Designer. Revealed through her original drawings) - Anzai Chika (VA of Reina. Revealed through Roke Euphonium Series. Possibly the biggest shipper of the lot) - Kurosawa Tomoyo (VA of Kumiko. Revealed through twitter posts and Roke Euphonium Series) - Karasawa Miho (Theme Song Performer. Kind of revealed through twitter by posting Kumiko and Shuuichi poster/ wall promotional only) - An overwhelming majority of the Japanese fans (novel readers and anime viewers) KumiRei sunk the moment Reina revealed her love for Taki-sensei. Because as much as you want it to happen, chances are KumiRei will never happen. Comments like that give false hope to other shippers so I had to resort to putting the actual situation under this spoiler tag. So, yeah, while you can certainly hope for it, just don't get too invested on it all over again. |

@shanimebib At such times, I increasingly think that NozoMizo was deliberately advancing as an attempt to preserve the yuri potential. Of course, this ship, like Nakayoshikawa, is still in its “adolescence” zone, but at least these girls never had a male love interest. I can not talk about the second film, maybe the new characters also have their ship bait. |

But after another chance, years later, the show really grew on me, especially season 2. One of KyoAni's better shows out there. So in short: I'm really looking forward on this next installment, movie OR series, although I'd prefer another season. On a side note, hopefully they give K-On another go as well. The amount of quality they poured in into such an average adaption a.k.a. the manga version, was and is astonishing. |

It is not surprising that many people think that it is yuri, really the adaptation worked too much in the relation of friendship of the girls in an exaggerated way. The interactions of the characters from the body language and subtle gestures in their way of acting is incredible the advanced emotional social communication that they possess , while with the guy never even bothered to build that up, if anything they went out of there way to establish that the two had 0 chemistry together. I really want them to change the end, it is not as if it was something strange or impossible, it has already happened with animes having original endings or modifiqued whole scenes (as demonstrated by the hero shield where the anime established him as a good person to the point that the whole scene of the last one chapter was totally contrary to the original), but I know of the author's insistence that they respect her story, but for the sake of the congruence the characters I would prefer that be no one ends up with anyone. |

i gladly welcome more cute kumiko noises and moments into my life i just hope this installment doesn't focus too much on romance, shipping stuff, etc... it really bogs down the rest of the series with the misleading kumiko and reina moments (the only plausible relationship that ever gets any attention, but it's kyoani so it's a no brainer that it's no more than bait), and the sparse, confusing kumiko and shuuichi moments. it's just a big mess that i try to pay as little attention to as possible, but i've heard kumiko and shuuichi did get a lot more focus in chikai no finale (which i obviously haven't seen) so idk... more mizore would be really great too but that's a long shot |

@FragileGlass Eupho is just another example of a good show, whose fandom mostly cares about ships than anything else. Which is especially funny, because even less deep and more moe-ish K-ON! more often mentioned outside the context of shiping than Eupho. |

Who discussed the earlier issues of the band with Kumiko? Who brought up his concern about their childhood friend Aoi? Who discussed with Kumiko about the first time that Asuka-senpai seem to have something about her? Who discussed KitaUji's chances in the nationals for the first time? Who got caught trying to defend Reina while questioning Taki-sensei's way of handling things (which Reina heard halfway through and has been mean with him ever since)? The riverbed meetings under sunsets, the meeting under the shed in a rain, talking while returning home by the train in multiple occasions? The answer to all of these is Shuuichi. Watch the season 1 again. While none of these (apart from the invitation to Agata matsuri) might have been romantic, he had more interaction with Kumiko than anyone else in the earlier episodes, sharing intel of the band and the rumours surrounding it. Needless to say, they are childhood friends so it's not like the story needs to show us that they are close. Their constant bickering just showed that they are very close. Meanwhile, Kumiko has silently shown signs that she might like Shuuichi. And the very first hint was her dropping her egg-roll when got asked by Hazuki if she liked him. The follow-up reaction from her in the next episode was so bad that it made me laugh. Maybe because I am well aware of the "dropping food from the chopstick/ spoon" trope used in Asian literature so I could pick that up. But the biggest hint was her tightening the grip on Reina's arm after allowing Hazuki to take him away. Look at her face at that very instant. It was a face of someone allowing something very important taken from them which was followed by her dropping her shoes in front of the locker (an extremely impolite thing to do in school ground in Japanese culture and is often shown as signs of emotional instability). Episode 8 of S1 just brainwashed majority of the viewers into that that Shuuichi never had any interaction with Kumiko up to that point nor Kumiko's out of the ordinary behaviours when it came to Shuuichi. The signs were there. Just not picked by many. |

Do you think they will be able to add clips from something that got a decision in no more than a week perhaps, heck maybe the decision was made after seeing the success of Chikai no Finale so it could be less than 48 hours. |

I'm not trolling, I really think it's a terrible show. Says the dude who has K-ON as a favorite show which is inferior compared to this series. Good job being as useless as that initial troll. |

That's what happens when you don't read the OP, and are an illiterate when it comes to moonspeak. Thanks for clearing that up, mate. |

@El_Caguai: Btw, if you got that spoiler~ish content from ANN, the writer had too much going on when they wrote that news article. First of all, they had a couple of names spelled incorrectly: the blatant one was Shuuichi's surname. Okay I give it to them as there is no Kana but surely the other name is not Maya (not with that Kanji). It should be either Mayu or Mayuu (the most common ones for her Kanji.) Secondly, the new girl Mayu is a third year transferee from SeiJo. She is not a first year as the news makes her to be (merging the line about the first years joining, the bane in translating Japanese is not being able to separate subjects from objects). This is what happens when you use google translator and search engines to write synopsis from a language you have no idea of. In other words: >>Garbage synopsis writer.<< |

Very well said! One of the reasons why I like Eupho so much is that the animation and direction is so RICH in conveying the complex intimacy between characters, whether platonic or romantic or something other (eg. Kumiko and Asuka). So the fact that in anime canon Kumiko BARELY has any of these interactions with Shuichi before the 3rd movie yet they're supposed to ultimately be a couple in the end?? I'm not buying it as anything other than forced and unnecessary... I completely invite KyoAni to change my mind but with how things are now, I really hope they deviate from the source material since it hasn't stopped them before (see: basically the entirety of Liz to Aoi Tori lol). I haven't watched the 3rd movie yet, though, so maybe KyoAni DID manage to completely justify KumiShui's relationship somehow without it being too OOC... but I digress. I look forward to this new anime adaption and I hope it'll be a TV season! |

I look forward to this new anime adaption and I hope it'll be a TV season! They didn't really deviate with Liz to Aoi, they just changed the POV of the story arc of Mizore and Nozomi to them, instead of Kumiko as it was in the original. And Kyoani already adapted Shuichi to be with Kumiko in Chikai no Finale, we already know that they get together in the movie and we see all the time of them together and then separating due to them wanting to focus on the club. As far as the third year, we don't know how anything end as the last novel will get out on june 22 but it's likely that she's going to end with Shuichi due to how everything was developed and made on the novel. With the anime, we'll have to wait and see but I would bet on that happening as well, considering that they also adapted Reina love for Taiki. |

I say, is there going to be any music in this new installment? If the people at KyoAni read the discussion above they would drop all that ensemble stuff (which must be a pain to animate) and do only the shipping bits. |
