Pretty intense series' finale.

I know this show has a lot of sumo wrestling but being able to carry it all the way to this point is impressive. Not to mention, Hinomaru once again demonstrates his strength and improved in his skills. Everyone watching that match in the audiene looked with excitement. Impressive work Hinomaru.

7/10. Good show overall, not overwhelmingly special but quite entertaining.

Good anime, 8/10.

The first episodes was so so but gets really good after episodes 6~8.

I didn't like the fact Hinomaru was obliged to drop out of school and abandon the club, initially I tough he was gonna lose the bout and then lose again on their second year of high school to finally win on the third year. Anyone who read the manga can confirm the ending is the same on the manga?

The flashback and the conclusion, dem fucking feels. Oodachi did really great and it was a blast watching these guys. You just can't go wrong with a Jump sports adaptation, even tho I think another studio*cough*Production I.G*cough* would've heaved this to another level.

Reina said it and I wish MAL would also show more love for Hinomarus Sumo, easily (one of) the most underwatched anime from the last year.

And can a source reader please tell me how faithful to the manga this ending was ?

They cut so much from manga, it's only justified if they're planning to do a second season. The difference of Hinomaru's attitude towards sumo in highschool and in pro league where he has to make a living through sumo is what makes the manga great.

The manga does keep going. But no words on anime sequel yet. Japan Sumo Association should fund this (just like New Japan Pro-Wrestling fund Tiger Mask W)

A nice series at which I had joy, of course the most intense were fights full of emotions. Although the series irritated me in a few moments.

Amazing ending, did not expect to feel so emotional. To be honest, I was expecting Kuze to win.

This anime had some problems here and there, but it was a fun ride.

The ending was pretty much exactly the same. There's a timeskip after this (two really) and hinomaru goes pro. It's great arguably better than the highschool section and Reina becomes a much bigger part of the story.

Ehh, pretty poor adaptation overall, ngl. Bottom-tier production values hurt the series visually, and rushed pace kills some of the tension and momentum. Not to mention that the skipped content cut out some early character development for the characters.

Still an alright series in its own rights, but I highly recommend the manga for those who are interested in the series.

Great finale.

The bout was hype as hell and Hinomaru winning and eventually tearing up made me tear up as well. :(

Congratulations to Odachi high school for winning, they did an amazing job from going from nothing to champions.

Overall, great series. Whole lot of energy and I must say manliness. XD
The only thing I wish is if the production was better, some of the still frames and overall fight direction just didn't feel as engaging as it could've been. I'm not a source reader but I do feel the presentation especially for the matches could've been much better. Everything else was great though.

Damn, seeing these big guys crying got me really emotional. What a great final episode.

Overall, this anime was a nice experience and although it wasn't as impactful as other sports anime I've watched, it was still a very entertaining series. 7/10

I'm glad Ushio won against Sosuke, that guy is a beast incarnate. I see he did go to the all Japan tournament, but only to lose to Tennouji ( what a yo yo rivalry). He decided to quit school to be a pro, I must commend him but that was a bad move since he is not a consistent fighter. I guess to him it's more a love for Sumo.

overall it was a good watch but it is typical in a form and followed a pattern. Ushio's handicap of being the shortest sumo wrestler was a good back story but it wasn't used well, instead of going forward he went back and forth. The bouts weren't that passionate since they were predictable, even a person who doesn't like sumo won't find this inspiring. Hajime no Ippo is a great example of the most inspiring fighting sports anime, even if you don't like boxing like me I was blown away because it felt real. The writer took me to the ring by force and said 'watch this fury of a sport and fall in love'. Damn I miss Ippo and Takamura! Season 4 please! Oh! Getting back on this anime it wasn't bad and the characters weren't bad, the animation was standard.

7/10.

I don't think they cut much from the manga up to this episode (there was an extra arc right near the beginning, and some extra flashbacks here and there, but it doesn't take much away from the show at all). Though I haven't read the chapters which cover this episode yet.
Awesome finale but there was less action than other fights.

Yuma vs Bat still my favourite fight but this was still pretty epic.

A clearly expected ending, but it was a nice one that felt like it cleanly ended the series. Overall I was not particularly fond of this series, but I could tell it was well done in many places. It had its share of flaws, but none that particularly dragged the series down.

Wonderful conclusion tournament and Im glad it brought all the intensity and action for everyone. Wish Mitsuhashi Kei had got a win at some point but maybe in the future.

Wonderful ending for Hinomaru.

I dig sports anime about Japanese sports, so it was good for that reason.

It didn't really stray from the familiar sports tropes, but it didn't do anything "wrong" either.

If it has a sequel, I'll watch.

edit: IMHO they should have switched the S1 ED and the S2 OP. In other words:
S1 OP: Fire Ground
S1 ED: "be the naked"
S2 OP: Hiizuru Basho
S2 ED: Sakura Sake

A good ending was super intense 😁 and full of feelings. This anime made me admire the sport of sumo and see how exciting it is. I feel ashamed as Reina for belittling him, I never thought that sumo was so incredible. And not only I say it for the anime, I have seen videos on YouTube and it is a great sport.
In some way, I feel very happy to have followed this anime from the beginning. At first I had my doubts, but as I watched each episode I loved it more and more. In the end it leaves me with a very big lesson "Even if they tell you that it is impossible, even if everything seems to be against you, do not give up, you are the one who decides it, keep your head up and keep going as hard as you can. achieve it. " That's what Hinomaru and the team meant to me.

I hope to see a Second Season. This is only the first step of Hinomaru to become yokozuna. It was a victory more than surprising, they deserve it.

Very fun and entertaining sports anime. Not very impressive visually or structurally, and the series does fall for lots of shounen clichés. However, where the series really shines is in its main cast of characters. Whom you immediately fall in love with, each member of The Dachi High Sumo club is a respectable member who all have their own individual reasons for doing sumo. The series was also very impressive in how emotional it was able to get for being what it is.

Season 1 was just a tiny step in accomplishing Hinomarus dream of becoming the Yokozuna so in Hinomaru becoming a professional sumo wrestler by the end of season 1. I'm hoping for a season 2 with better and more intense fight scenes.

Strong 6/10

Badass anime.

Was quite heartwarming seeing Ushio's grandparents there crying for his success. And it was nice of Sosuke's mom to bow to them in the background. Wish we could've seen more flashbacks of Ushio's mom. She seems like a great mom. Poor Ushio.

It'd be nice to get another season, but who knows if that will happen. Never forget: be the naked!

I enjoyed the anime before the tournament but got bored after the tournament started. The reason is the outcome was really predictable. The fights were not exciting because audiences already knew who will lose and who will win.

I don't know about Sumo so I don't understand why Hinomaru need to drop out from the school. Other sports anime/manga have characters doing school fine after debuted to pro as long as they can play the pro matches.

Finished my rewatch for this and it was a good, easy watch. I should re-read the manga at some point since more material is there but I'll save that for later. It's a very simple, pretty standard sports high school shounen anime but the characters were pretty good, the sumo action even without great animation was still quite fun and some bouts had really good intensity to it. To be fair, even if this should have gotten another season, the anime's ending was better than I expected given the cathartic win at the end for Hinomaru to get a chance at the pro league. Plus, little glimpses of scenes with his mother who passed away before in flashbacks were nice too, and good seeing some family from Hinomaru's side root for him like that with his grandparents. Sometimes, shows that are simple but have charm like these can be a nice refreshing watch from time to time.
