Ah, the feels of this episode. I always find it amusing whenever Yotarou is involved in some sort of similar segment.

Nice to see Yakumo being taken care of. I feel like his health is still not doing well though in his current state. (especially with an injured eye now). Not much rakugo this episode but I liked the expression of the realism with the characters. Storytelling wise, I think the way it portrays Yakumo's state of being to be fairly impressive.

Talking about the fire... so scary. Finally a baby for Yotarou. Platform to radio, until the theater is fixed. Wow, the writer is passionate about writing new story for his rakugo.

Ishida-san's character's recovering life. The lady thanking him. He enjoys Yotarou's performance on the radio. The kid trying to make him better by throwing the pedals and repeating the performance. He finally accepted the lady as the student? That past Yotarou again at the end.

26:55 next. The narration there... does that mean he's ... for good?

I feel like a broken record at this point but again this feels like the best episode of the season so far, so many good things happened like don't even get me started on that pregnancy reveal.

And the symbolism with the cherry blossoms and Yakumo finally accepting Konatsu as an apprentice coincided wonderfully, oh and the fact that Yota was obviously asking about female rakugo performances for her was so adorable, what a perfect couple and a perfect episode.

Seems like next week will focus heavily on Yakumo and Sukeroku which makes sense, we'll finally get some closure on his story and the last episode will probably focus on the whole family, maybe the ending scene will be Konatsu in the hospital giving birth? I think that would be a perfect scene to end this wonderful adventure.

Oh for fuck's sake show you did NOT just pull that ending on me! Please tell me you did not just pull that ending on me! :D You know, I literally had tears of joy in my eyes and a big dumb grin on my face for the last 3 - 5 minutes of the episode before that ending. It was pretty damn near perfect! Konatsu pregnant with Yotaro's child, implied to begin doing rakugo in earnest, coming to peace with Yakumo and receiving his blessing, Yotaro finding some radio success with the continued intent of helping Konatsu do rakugo, Shin implied to be a worthy heir someday, etc....etc....etc....and then that! It was so freaking perfect that, even though I knew we had 12 episodes, for a bit I honestly thought I'd made a mistake, that there was only 10 episodes after all, and was thoroughly satisfied with that ending. Damnit show! :D I mean, I'll admit I did suspect once or twice Yakumo might be dead on that chair but each time he'd smile or say something to ensure me that wasn't the case...and then that! So IS he dead? Is our final 2 episodes just gonna be Yakumo in the land of the dead and possibly an epilogue? Gah! Don't leave me hanging like this show! :D

Also, for a brief second I thought we were gonna go the route where this entire episode was one giant fantasy. That Yakumo really died in the rakugo hall, Yotaro failing to save him. Oh I was gonna be so pissed if that was true...but the burn around his eye and the patch lead me moreso to believe he probably died on that chair at the end, if he did die. Which still sucks mind you but at least it wouldn't throw out all the good stuff this episode had! :D Damnit, it's gonna be a long week and that preview was no help! :D

Really really good episode. I love the interactions between Yakumo and Konatsu, it was great to see them reconcile. I was curious about the "have you made up your mind" Part that Yakumo told her, I wonder if it was actually about Marrying Yota. Awesome to see him mentor her though.

I guess a new Theater will be built as well which is what people wanted.

Man what a cliffhanger AGAIN

Finally, a catharsis to the issue between Yakumo and Konatsu. And greatly delivered, even visually with the lighting and the cherry blossoms thing. And ALSO theme exploration. Truly great.

That ending tho.

This. All the goodness and happy moments being punctuated by that single little scene at the end. I hope it was just one of dreams. Please wait a bit longer Yakumo-sensei. You still have to meet your second grandson.

I dearly want to heat Konatsu doing more rakugo.

Yota once again showing his selflessness not caring about stepping infront of Yakumo, which is a nice reminder about how he wishes to perform. Still think Sukeroku's closure will come from Yota.

Kind of feel bad for Yakumo after this episode; dedicated most of his life to Rakugo without pursuing other interests.

On the other hand, it feels so good to see Konatsu and Yakumo finally make true amends.

Lastly, what the blank is the next episode preview supposed to mean?
I'm just confused by the whole concept of scoring by "Writing and characters." If you're not entertained, why should you care?

Aaaand, It made me cry again. (It's been happening for the last four or five episodes!)

Ok, if last episode was about circularity, this one is about endings and beginnings.

The theater burnt down to the ground and with it, a whole period of rakugo ended. It not only took away Yakumo and Yotaro's place of work, but it also affected the owner, several employees, and other rakugo performers. At the same time, it seems a new period of rakugo is coming, where performances are more common now, where maybe new scripts are goiong to be accepted to be performed alongside the classics, where even a new type of performers are coming.

On the other hand, Yotaro and Konatsu are about to welcome a new member into their family, their very own child. That scene was incredibly beautiful. When Yotaro started to cry, I started too. He raised Shin as his own, and now he's going to have another child, one that belongs completely to him too. In addition to that, finally Konatsu and Yakumo acknowledged the truth of their relationship: Konatsu won't be able to forget about his parents and their tragic death, but Yakumo also became her father and raised her (note the parallelism here with Yotaro/Shin-chan), for which she's grateful. It was about time that Konatsu accepted in front of Yakumo how much she loves him.

But not everything can be happiness because, if you remember correctly, this is Rakugo Shinjuu. Since when there is completely happiness in this anime? Exactly. And now it seems that the moment in which Yakumo embraced life through his family --in a higher place than rakugo itself since he allowed Konatsu to be his apprentice, and not anymore as a burden that keeps him anchored on earth by means of his responsibility towards them--, was the moment he was welcomed by his beloved Sukeroku in a place beyond this realm.

And this is how this anime broke my heart. Again.

At this point I feel like her being told the truth wouldn't make any sense and would just create unnecessary drama and while originally I wanted her to be told, now I don't think she needs to know.

I guess this episode confirmed that Shin took the knife in place of Kiku. And this episode confirms that Kiku was willing to go through a double-suicide with Miyokichi. He has no reason to lie to Konatsu now, and I am very happy that they both had a heart-to-heart.

Kiku better not die yet! He still needs to teach Konatsu, and even Yota was trying to get the writer guy to compose stories to be told by women!

This anime needs to stop trolling us making us think he's dying at the end of every episode, I'm hoping they're trolling us again cause I'm not ready yet to see Yakumo leave :(

Everything about this episode was just perfect and I wanted to hug them both so much when I heard Konatsu say she was pregnant, it was such a heartwarming moment. Yota was soooo happy, it was adorable. I wonder when he's gonna stop calling her sis though lol.

Yeah I was pretty much inwardly squealing with happiness when Konatsu said she was pregnant with Yota's child lmao. To me , this series is doing a lovely job with mood shifts, because I cycle through the motions with these characters. I went from having this adorable feeling to bittersweet and gentle to being filled with dread everytime Yakumo closes his eyes. Strong ep, and probably my fav one so far.

Just as future starts looking brighter, disaster strikes. Or at least something akin to it. After all, the exact nature of that final encounter remains unknown, despite the obvious implications.

On another note, the artistic side of this week's episode was particularly enticing.

If I didn't know about the fact that this season is 12 episodes, and if you take out that last part of the episode, I'd legitimately think this was the finale. However, it took an unexpected turn with Bon going to the Land of the Dead. I mean, I had a feeling for most of the season that he would eventually die, but for it to happen in THIS episode of all episodes, after everything seemed to be going well with such a lighthearted atmosphere, really came out of nowhere.

Next Friday, come faster please.

@Chumara you're referring to Shinnosuke right? Konatsu had him with the mafia boss according to the official wiki for this series. That's why she specified to Yotaro that the child she's currently pregnant with is his.

Yeah but Konatsu just know the first story. So it's kinda of weird to me, I don't like how they wrote that part of the story. Bon was bringing Shin and Konatsu back with him, so he certainly had not planned to die that day, he didn't even choose Miyokichi over Rakugo years before. In the first story, Bon doesn't look decided to jump with her either, when she pushed him he told her "wait" and the rest looks like an accident. In the second story we don't know what happened, was that knife really for Bon? Seems like a violent way to kill him. I don't know, that whole story with Miyokichi didn't work for me.
