I concur with the guilt thing! When he apolgoises to Miyokichi he makes no mention of knocking her daughter up and basically leaving her to raise the child as a single mother. Anyway, I never read the manga so if it's canon in the manga that IDGAF just like IDGAF about the Usagi Drop manga. IT DOESN'T EXIST!

In the scene just before Yakumo dies, Yakumo says to Konatsu "One receives so much joy from raising their child," so how could he sleep with her if he saw her as his daughter? He even talks about how he regrets not expressing his affections to her properly -- but he's clearly saying this in the context of a father/daughter relationship. Heck! He even talks about how he should have planted a Sakura tree in the garden when he adopted her. That scene was just so powerful and beautiful, to later on have someone imply that he could be Shinnosuke's father really spoils as well as cheapens the moment. If he IS, in fact, the father, then the mangaka has some messed up perspective on relationships istg lol

Personally, I've chosen to not believe in the Sensei's theory because Konatsu doesn't confirm or deny anything. Even so, we really didn't need that extra addition because there are so many people who just take things at face value without even assessing the moral implications. Yuck.

I read your comment about Rakugo Shinjuu last ep, it's nice to see I am not the only doubtful person about this revealing(: I didn't see those "hints" apart from the one in the last episode of season 1 (by the grave) and after I read some people's comments about others I went to re-watch the scenes and I still don't buy it...

Yeah, in general I find very hard to understand why people feel it adds to the story or even why they wanted it to happen. To me, it just ruins Yakumo character and his relationship with Konatsu. I accept it happened, but I can't reconcile it with their characterization. It's not even a matter of whatever it is messed up or not (Although I certainly don't like it and I wish it hadn't happened), I mean my favorite anime is Utena and it has plenty of messed up relationships, but I find them well written and portrayed. Heck, in Rakugo S1, all the 3 adults had messed up relationships and that's what I liked about it!

I saw your post in the Rakugo thread and I absolutely agree with everything that you said. The way the writer went about revealing Sensei's speculation was unnecessary, tacky and completely off kilter. There wasn't anything in the show that implied the two had any kind of romantic or sexual attraction to one another -- even if you squint really hard you can't see it in the subtext. It is really sad to see that Josei writers always need to sex up relationships between women and their surrogate fathers.

Great posts in the Rakugo thread, definitely agree. Characterization-wise, it just feels completely out of character for me.
