Hello everyone!

I watched this so overrated anime called "clannad" few months ago and i dropped it after ~15 episodes. But i've been wondering - what makes this anime so horrible? :|
Here's my list of things, that made me vomit in crapnad:

1) Mix of realism and.... Hm - "phantasy"? I mean have anyone ever seen a ghost-girl wandering the school and making "wooden shurikens" while at the same time lying in hospital in a coma? Stick to realism [or at least try to be as close as possible] (battletech) or make "miracles" common in the whole universe (star wars) for goodness sake!

2) Jokes and "funny" situations - i couldn't bring myself to laugh even once :| Making comedy that's not funny but irritating is one hell of the epic fail imo.

3)Drama without... drama :| *similar to #2*

4) Characters!!! What is this Suckagami doing there (except for stealing some time and kicking the most irritating person i've ever seen in anime)? Why was she even introduced? Well i don't know (maybe that's becouse i have't watched the "show" until the end?) :P Also the #1 rule of the harem genre is working here - the worse the main characters personality is, more of the girls are attracted to him - (again :P) have anyone seen that work in reality? I don't think so :P And finally... Nagisa... She's so helpless, it's a miracle that she breaths all by herself!

5) Kotomi arc... Ending of it to be precise. From what i remember briefcase with the teddy bear and the letter travelled whole world until it was finally brought to Kotomi. OK... So here's some questions for ya! - How come the teddy bear wasn't stolen? Can every single person read japanese? (if i'm right the letter was written in japanese...), Why the briefcase had to travel for so long? If the people are so bright so they can read japanese, then why anyone hadn't brought it to japanese embassy!?

And that's everything i've remembered... :] Post your opinions as well so we can bring all of crapnads flaws, nonsenses etc to light! (let the flamewar begin! :D)

You're obviously a fucking dipshit. You have no life, or it sucks, and you just put your anger onto Clannad. I accept the fact that there are people who dislike clannad out there, but it was truly a magical, great show. It was filled with important morals, friendship, and love. Since you have none of that, you just hate on Clannad.

1. This show was a change, because most animes focus on sex/violence to get viewers. This good-hearted show gets viewers by focusing on how great life can be. And i'm sorry it wasnt a harem! BOOHOO! Haven't you had enough of harem? And it was an honestly good show. Sorry there wasn't enough porn.
2. Being immature and spelling their names with words like "suck" and things like that show your immaturity level.
3. Don't hate on Nagisa. There are people in the world like her, with disabilities, and aren't strong. Nagisa is like them.
4. Shurikens... Really? Were you even listening to the story?
5. Why don't you like magical things and miracles, and saying the don't exist!!! People with fucking cancer and diseases are dying out there, and when they live through it it is called a MIRACLE. Magical things can be a magic trick, or even as far as love. If you know what love is, whether for family, or girlfriend/boyfriend, you will know it's one of the few things worth living for. Yes, it was unrealistic that fuko was there when she was in the hospital. But, again, that wasn't the point.
6. Why would somebody steal a teddi bear? And, there are some good-hearted people in this world. In clannad, they could have gotten one of their friends, or even friken Google translator to read the letter! They could have been touched by it, and felt they should pass it on. And why point that out!? That wasn't the point of the Kotomi arc! The point was friends helping each other, and the wonderful love of parents and child!
7. Some people found this show to be funny.

Well, yep. Yeah.

To be honest, where you dropped off I would have hated this series too. I hated the whole first season. I still hate Sunohara. I dropped that show several times in the first season but over the course of a few months I finished it. I still have no idea what possessed me to finish it.
Then I watched ~After Story~

Wow.

I... umm... there aren't words for it. It truly is an amazing last 15 or so episodes. The only trouble is going through that beginning. >__>

I have to say that I do not Clannad as much as I like Clannad ~After Stroy~ but to call it truly bad?

Let me post my opinion of the points you found the Anime lacking:

1. Well I didn't really like that character as well but it does have a large impact on the characters. Mainly Tomoya and Nagisa. They become stronger through the hardships of this little girl who is wandering around trying to make her sister happy. Especially Tomoya starts to become more caring.

2. Well I also didn't really laugh out loud but it was funny enough to cheer me up when I was down or make me smile at times.

3. Well the drama part only kicks in after the first 15 episodes though it doesn't really come out just right. The best part is the ~AS~. if this does not make you crie you are just a bastard.

4. You really need to look better at Tomoya. He is a caring, trutsworrthy friend. He may look like a bastard but that is only his outward apearance. He has become this way because of his father, who is neglecting him.

5. Well it seems that the message was transfered verbally. If it has Japense markings on it it doesn't mean that it is form Japan right? And to be honost apart from me about no-one in my direct inviroment would recognize any of those markings as Japanese.

I watched both series and I really don't like it.
I don't like characters, don't like the plot. And don't tell me 'rewatch it and say something then'. Go die in hell ! I watched it one time and this is more than enough for me.
It's just overrated.
this anime sucks at all - for me. I can have my own opinion, do I? so stop yelling around and act like a babies. bye (:

i dont think moe is the right word...harem maybe?

but all i have to say is people will think it's good, people will think it's bad. it's a mix of realism and magic, however most people don't get how the magic works, it takes analysing to get how the ending works unless your quite clever, however i couldn't get into the series at the start either, but im patient, i watched it, the ghost part with fuko was there for character introduction basicly besides that it was pointless apart from the main points made about friendship etc cos they forget her.
after that though it gets better, especially in afterstory. it goes beyond most anime instead of stopping at school it goes well past that and into ever-day life, i think they tried to put stereotypical people of all sorts in such as the nerd, the delinquent, the nice, the clumsy, the sporty, the annoying, etc but thats what made it work showing how people can all be connected.

if your 2 impatient 2 watch the series watch the movie, it's old but it will show u the main messages of it and it leaves out fuko and most of the magic aswell...otherwise watch the re-cap episode at the end of after-story.

on the downside i really couldn't find anything but the semi-annoying parts with robot tomoya and ushoi or watever. it really only gives depth...and the slow start

im being biased here though cus i love clannad since it gave a clear view of what emotions they're feeling and nearly brought tears to my eyes at some stages.

the humour. everyones humour is freak'n different....i like the harmless humour and witty humour for example, but some1 else might like humour where bodily gasses are emitted in small enclosed spaces and everyone chucks a fit...

plot: basicly 2 star-crossed lovers cursed
characters: stereotypes of different people, all having their own troubles and goals, hidden or revealed.

i say any1 that likes anime where the characters struggle and in the end pull them selves out of it and has a happy life would like this, but those who are full into the pure reality, or pure fantasy, romance only as a side-dish type anime probably wont like this as much...

yay for a long pointless post that won't change any1's ideas to waste time =D

this is pretty much my opinion on it too.lol. first season is rough. (and half of second season) honestly i watched it and i was like... i don't understand the hype.. it's an average anime at best. (plus it's so disorganized... and transitions are messy...) but i did hate the ending of AS because it was so random (until i read the VN anyway) oh right. and i hated fuuko because of her random appearances out of nowhere in clannad. they weren't funny. and they were just annoying. I liked her in her own arc but she really needed to stay in her own arc. it messed up the sadness of her ending after she started randomly appearing. (honestly a "wtf" moment for me in clannad)

I hated a lot of characters too. Kotomi... Sunohara.. Fuuko.. Nagisa...Ryou...

But AS is quite amazing. (second half)

and i'm fairly sure i've pretty much converted after the Visual novel. i mean hello, i have a dango for my avatar lol. that should say it all..

VN is much, much, much MUCH better than the anime. (yes, both series). It actually explains why the ending is like that in detail, fleshes out the characters like they should have been and since it's split into routes there are no "awkward transitions." Basically the Visual Novel was the 10/10 masterpiece that I was seeking for. Thank god i found it. I was pretty much dried eyed throughout the entire anime. and I definitely shed some tears for the Visual Novel that's how much more moving it was (i didn't actually think it was possible, but...! i'm glad they made the impossible possible)

Also, about Clannad being a "Harem" Well... I could see how it is.. but... it's adapted from a visual novel -- where you're supposed to choose between a number of girl characters.. so with that into consideration, what else do you expect it to be? but i think it does its best to try to stay away from being labelled in that genre despite its parameters.

Even if I'm still like w/e about Nagisa (I still like Dangos but liking Nagisa is a whole different story) since I hate her type of character in general, but Ryou became more tolerable with Kappei. I've gotten used to Sunohara's humor and I like Kotomi even if she speaks a little slow and frustrates me once in awhile.

For all the praise season 2 gets for it's more 'serious' nature, I really can't help but wonder how can people take it so seriously when they all look so superficial and ridiculous.

It's an obnoxious style that came from laziness.

What I don't like about the series is the fanbase that overtly praises it as the best of the Key series and say negative things about either Air and/or Kanon. From my knowledge of the series, it is far from perfect.

From your knowledge? Perhaps you should actually watch the series before determining if it is far from perfect.

Now for my response to the original poster. First and foremost, I'd like to praise you on you cute and clever "crapnad", it was very mature.

1) Is there some unwritten law that says realism and the supernatural can't intermingle? I've never heard of such a law. And in this case I think that they mixed pretty well, nothing was too far-fetched.

2) I know its you opinion, but you really have no sense of humor. The comedy was in everyday situations at school. You must have kept to yourself during high school instead have joking around with your friends. And not all the humor was at school. How could you not laugh when Sanae caught Akio talking bad about her bread?

3) Okay, I'd like to let you know that the statement "drama... without drama" makes absolutely no sense. And if you didn't consider this series drama, what do you consider drama? The reason this series had such a dramatic impact because it was realistic, a lot of that stuff could happen in real life.

4. In my opinion, the characters were well written. Even Sakagami. If you had finished the series, you would know why she was doing what she was doing and why she gave her old life up. And how do think Tomoya's personality is horrible? Its pretty cool how he can be so carefree and hilarious, but also have a sad, emotional part to him. That's maybe why woman are attracted to him. Perhaps you are jealous that you didn't get more attention from girls when you where in school. Also, just because someone is shy and has little confidence, doesn't mean that they're terribly written. It just shows that its hard to do somethings on your own, and that's where tomoya come's in to push her forward.

5) You think that people feel like stealing teddy bears bought at an airport? Who knows where that bear had been?
The letter was written in English. And it traveled so long because no one would know exactly who the suit case belonged to just from initials written on it.

As for your taste in anime... not to bad (me being the reference point), but are you seriously going to be 21? You seem really immature.

Clannad sucks for many reasons. If I could enter any anime world, I would go into clannad with a fully automatic machine gun and just kill everyone. No, scratch that, I'd force Tomoya to kill Ushio while Nagisa watches, No wait, first I'd rip out her intestines and torture her a little.

Maybe I'd just hire Alucard to come in there and fuck everyone up. Saves effort

Oh yeah. The reasons. Well, I could spend hours writing and essay about it, but I'm too lazy.

It just sucks

As for me, the anime is suck..

1) yes! i drop it after 10 episode, but come on man! 10 episode and it still doesnt give me 'something' to watch it. Stein;Gate is kinda boring at the beginning, but only after few episode it is getting more intense. I finish the whole arc bout the shuriken gurl n i wasnt move at all

2) the concept of the story where the story is suppose to be romance but the main character is surrounded by many gurl. That is so lame. its like watching high school dxd without nudity. (N i don hate high school dxd... better watch porn)

3) the humour is just hilariously not funny

Overall, a good story need to have something to get the audience attention. Yes, many of us need to force watch it until they get attached to it, but if u are force to watch it, where are the fun part is? at the end? every anime should have the emotional part the end. For me, having a bad start is worse that having a bad ending

Clannad AS is the ultimate otaku delusion.

Tomoya killed his daughter, was a douche to his unstable father and never
help that girl when he needed to(only to boost Tomoya's own Ego and for dramatic effect).

You only defend Tomoya cause he Looked Cool.

Even SAO was better than it. Unlike SAO, Clannad took its delusional ideas VERY seriously.

And it worked.
