| I don't know what to feel about the ending... I don't want Kira to win but I don't want Light to die either? Is this really the right judgment for all his sins...? I had hoped that he would receive judgment and punishment by the world, but instead he ended up dying because his name was written by Ryuk in his book. When Light immediately panicked and suddenly laughed hysterically like a person who had lost his mind, I think it was because he realized that he was not as great as he thought, and for the first time in his life he felt defeat... both as Light and Kira. Never had he felt this hopeless until he was still trying to write Near's name using his blood. On the other hand, for the first (and unfortunately last) time I'm proud of Matsuda. Thank you for taking Kira's case seriously. I loved the moment when Light "saw" himself in the past as well as seeing L before he died. Maybe he's thinking about what he's been doing, maybe he's thinking his life would have been fine if he hadn't taken the Death Note, maybe he's thinking that had he done better Kira's identity wouldn't have been revealed, maybe he's thinking that his defeat was "expected" since the first time L showed up... or maybe he's just thinking everything he's done is a waste. Or nothing at all. Who knows? If I'm not mistaken, Light's mother is still alive right? And Sayu, Light's sister is also alive but in a miserable mental state. If that's the case then I really feel sorry for Light's mother. After losing her husband, now losing one of her children. All because her son was obsessed with being God... and became a murderer instead.... Misa and Mikami committed suicide? Well, they were both obsessed with Kira, so it's no surprise. Misa felt she had no purpose in life anymore, while Mikami felt he was the one who caused his God to become like this. Honestly the ending was like... cloudy... gloomy... full of despair.... but I felt a little dissatisfied... |

| I checked out the manga version after I saw this episode. Light wasn't as whiny about dying in the anime, that's for sure. Misa and Mikami committed suicide? In the manga it appears that Misa joins some sort of Kira cult at the end so she probably didn't self-delete after all. |

| Hmm. I could never have envisioned such a pathetic ending for Light. If anything the show shouldn't have gone further than episode 26, like a lot of comments are saying. And besides, what happens to the notebook now? Who's to say it won't be leaked and a new Kira would rise up and then L's fourth generation would try to take him down. This outcome could have been so much better, and how was it so easy for them to even find the real notebook? Guess I'll be reading the manga after this to clear up any plot holes |

| since i'm watching this in the late ass year of 2025 i already had quite a few spoilers but overall a good watch! the final scenes showing ryuk and light's run until his death were beautifully cinematic, and cathartic. i heard the anime condenses a lot of the later part of the plot so it took me a couple google searches to make complete sense of the ending and near's deductions, and i kinda wish i didn't get spoiled for matsuda shooting light lol. it was satisfying that light lost but some aspects of its execution weren't. still deciding on my rating |

| Kira's laugh is so iconic. While the second half of this anime hasn't been very impressive for me, I still enjoyed a few moments overall. Nice! |

| "No, you're just a murderer." - Near Facts. What a cathartic finale. I know most people consider the anime inferior to the manga, but this episode was much better than the way it played out in the manga. Specifically, the way Ryuk wrote Light's name. In the manga he does it in the warehouse in front of everyone as Light begs him not to, but I preferred the anime version where Ryuk's on that pillar as the sun sets, and he's more wistful about how much fun they both had. Also, the manga epilogue chapter was unnecessary, so the anime isn't missing much by omitting it. Yeah, the second half of the story wasn't as good as the first, but at no point was I ever bored, so overall a great ride. |

| I felt so bad seeing Light going insane.. (such amazing voice-acting by Miyano Mamoru.. ) ..he was always so calm, always winning, always under control.. and after being caught and cornered, he still holds onto the delusion that he is God of the new world, of it being his "duty".. poor dude :( ..and then Near slaps him with the reality.. that he's nothing but a serial killer with God complex.. which is indeed true. Yet, there is something immensely likeable about Light.. and that is in the way his character is brilliantly written. My eyes welled-up seeing him see his own 18 year old self walking past him in his school uniform.. The final moments of Light was so beautifully directed.. Light seeing image of L for the last time before he closes his eyes dying reminds me of L'd death, where Light's face is the last thing he sees when he dies.. Light does love L, doesn't he.. if there was anyone he loved, it was L... such well-written characters and dynamic.. I wish there was an alternative story with just Light and L, now as friends in afterlife.. Ahhhh.. even in my 2nd watch - what a show :D ..I enjoyed it just as much, maybe even more so than the last time ..though it suffered from poor writing after episode 26, I really loved it.. the first 25 episodes and the last two, are just unmatched in their level of thrill! Very well-written (until L's death.. but I still enjoyed every episode after L too) |
