- Pretty decent episode so far. I'm looking forward to when they start dealing with stuff the previous anime didn't cover at all.

Agree almost completely with all that. The Lior part (which was the very beginning of the first FMA) was quite lame and a bad way to introduce the series, so it's a good thing they rushed it, still retaining the essence of the scenario and of the developments. But the direction was not as good as the first two episodes and the animation dropped a bit (being even far weaker than the animation of the same episode(s) in the first series). A bit disapointed by this episode but for now, Brotherhood is better than the first FMA overall mainly because of a better narration and script (direction also in the first two episodes).

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

I actually liked this episode a lot; a nice mix of comedy and seriousness involved. Poor Rose, but her meeting with Ed at the church was cute.

I really hope they will slow down the pacing soon. If they continue this fast pacing they will ruin the show, at least for me.

Seriously, I DON'T CARE IF I KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN, I just want to see a good anime, not super-fast-what-is-going-on-? anime.

I'm really hating the drop into sketchy animation for comedic moments. In other series I wouldn't mind it that much, but there's such a gigantic difference in the production quality between the amazingly animated normal scenes and the badly animated comedy scenes that it's really jarring.

I agree, It's oke that they wanna make it look funny, but this is overdone and kinda annoying.

Also shouldn't the next episode be about the mine town, Yoki (the lieutenant there) is funny and comes back later on. After that comes the train hijack in the manga. I hope they will still cover this, maybe after the Nina arc?

For the most part, yes. I was expecting minor changes, and that's all that has happened so far.

I have to agree that last ep was rushed, and this one was slightly rushed, but I still thought it was good. If they don't change the pacing, I will be upset as well. I do believe they will change the pacing once they get through all the repeating crap.

Man, this felt too quick. Rose seemed a lot more weaker in this version, whereas she reached a sense of closure in the 1st version. And what was with monstro-Cornello? Was that a manga thing?

The show sort of feels like the 1st FMA (obviously) with more of the Soul Eater type random humor mixed in. Not a bad thing, but something I just noticed.

Damn, I hate Tucker. And I do not want to see Nina go through what she went through in FMA1 again. That was definitely one of the saddest moments from the 1st FMA.

i love how in the midst of all the fighting, we still get great LOL moments. so, this cornelio had a bit more, right? cuz i don't remember THAT fight in the manga.. but then again, i should review the manga again...

i do enjoy the pacing of this. the faster we get through certain stories, the faster we can get through to the awesomeness of the later episodes.

altough, i'm not looking forward to seeing...

I found it bit too rushed as well..probably because of the way they cut one scene to another.
Also, wondering how the cut of statue falling would affect the series as I thought it had a brief but rather important moment later on in manga(not gonna discuss that in here though)....

ya, I'm really not liking this season because of all the rushing around. The first season felt like it flowed better and each scene transitioned into the next perfectly. This episode they cut out rose's love as a reanimated bird and also the animated statues. The fight with the chimera's was also lacking action. I just cant find a reason to enjoy this as much as the first season....I can only hope they add some new content soon or else I'm gonna get board.

The first anime was better. This one feels far too comedic in situations where it should be serious. As well, the fight scenes in the first felt much better choreographed and seemed much more realistic.

The bird thingy wasn't in the manga, thus, it is not in this "remake" thats directily based on the manga. The part where Ed animated the large statue of Leto being removed was disapointing though.

Anyways, I'm not entirely pleased with the pacing myselef so far, (and how they switch back and fourth to the comedy/drama doesn't help either, even if it was in the manga) but if this means we get to the stuff not really shown in the first series sooner, so be it. I just hope they won't rush the whole Nina/Tucker story too much, and i'm really hoping they will include...

I also don't mind if they end up skipping the train highjacking part, afteral it had no importance to the story except to introduce Roy and his gang, and they already did that in the first ep. (Perhaps they will exchange this event for the events 2nd novel instead, the 2nd novel was awsome! ^^ ) I just hope they will fit in Youswell somewhere in there, perhaps as a flashback at least, knowing how the events there play a part later on.

Hey, not bad! Much better than the first anime's version. This segment only needed one episode - it felt unnecessarily dragged out in the first series. Perhaps I've misjudged FMA.

Less BAWWWW, too - which is definitely a good thing. I even found it in me to forgive the repeated "lulz Ed is short" joke.

I just have to hope that they keep sticking with the manga's material, because it's obvious from the debacle of episode 1 that whoever Bones hired to do that one couldn't write to save his life.

Well... though i always hated FMA series, i love the opening, Yui is great on this opening (My favorite from Yui is Rolling Star), i loved the gunshot scene were Rose thought that the Fullmetal Alchemist was Alphonse. Anyway what the hell is with the animation, i found their faces too... fat? I always says that animation is not a problem for me but...geez; they are too weird. The fight with the chimera's was somewhat cool, but something was missing.

They exagerated comedy this time on drama scenes :/ not a good move -in my opinion-, i would like to this series get a bit more serious -though, i did laughed when Edward was running from the monk-.
Yet i laughed again with the fact that a Monk could use a Gatling Gun, that was just simply hilarious.

So nothing happened in this episode, just a bit of action and even that it didn't move the plot for a centimeter.

It's not like it didn't have its purposes, though. It's here to fill in the viewer with the details about alchemy - what kinds of things are possible, what aren't, etc. It's also a good introduction to the homunculi (making the one in the first episode absolutely unnecessary... but then, the whole first episode was unnecessary, so there you have it), as well as Ed and Al's quest for the philosopher's stone.

So while the plot didn't go anywhere, it wasn't a wasted episode.

Episode 3 = all negatives from previous episodes + new ones = fail.

It was rushed and humour scenes were out of place. What's more, split screen was annoying (don't understand why director decided to do that, probably he wanted to show some 'improvements'). Basically they've shown most important parts but because they wanted to take into account most of Lior trip scenes it was too artificial (like when they talked with a shopkeeper or with Rose). Also I don't understand the changes. What were they for? Why Al wasn't shoot at by the bearded guy? Why Rose wasn't in Al's armor to know about Cornello's scheme? Why did she have a gun? It didn't make any sense. The way they resolved it (i.e. Rose pointing the gun at Ed and fortunately shooting Al) made this scene hilarious. In manga there are already many coincidences, why then add more of them to the anime?
What I found interesting is that this time Ed took less time to transmute a spear (probably it wouldn't look as cool as before and kids would be disappointed) then in previous episode. Cornello himself admitted that bringing someone back from the dead is impossible and it was the only reason why Rose would want to listen to him (in manga he hinted that thanks to the PS it should be possible), so it didn't make sense for him to say that. Unfortunately that's not all, showing the bloody sign by Al, Cornello's glowing eyes and glaring at Ouroboros when he had a hole in his skull annoyed me. But the most ridiculous part was the Hulk thing that showed Ed's super-strength, he could parry giant's blows easily. It would make sense if Cornello only changed his size and not mass but taking into account that he used PS this probably wasn't the case. Even the music didn't fit (especially at the end, when Rose was talking to Elric brothers). And Gluttony's voice? Yuck.

Personally, I much prefer Brotherhood to the first series, and this episode is exactly why. I dislike the first series: everything is drawn out much too far for the heavy feeling of drama that overlays the show. The Lior arc in the first series was nearly enough to put me off the show entirely, and I'm quite glad that it was a single episode this time. And while I agree that the animation quality of the comedic scenes is somewhat lacking, I much prefer the consistent comedy of Brotherhood to the first series. I'm rather pleasantly surprised that I'm starting to actually *like* this show now.

I am not sure if "overgrown talking parrots" and "lets throw them to the jail for lulz" is what I have in mind for "done much better".

And overall, what do you expect? its an adaptation of manga, of course they have to cover Lior again, but this time without the stupid fillertastic additions from fma1. :)

This might be more faithful to the manga, but it still felt a bit rushed. The random humor scenes didn't really bother me in the first 2 episodes, but here it just didn't feel right. Oh well, maybe it's because the Lior arc isn't that interesting.

Like most people here I found the comedy/drama parts a bit off-balanced. The rushed storytelling also feels a bit off, but it doesn't bother me too much for these storylines. I'm looking forward to the next episode, because the Nina story-arc was like a turning point for me in FMA1. I hope they will take their time to tell it properly, so it will still have the same emotional impact.

Not sure what to think of this episode, im happy that they are rushing it so they can get upto the new storyline though.

It would be interesting to see how a person who has not seen the original series would rate this, it seems all abit to rushed and confusing for someone new to the scene to pick up and enjoy.

As an avid fan of the first show, I really didn't mind them going by this arc at a quicker pace. I have a feeling they're probably just as excited as we are to get onto the 'new' material (aka the stuff that wasn't in the first series), and since they realize most people watching this show have already seen the first one, they don't want to overlap too many things and make it redundant.

I'm sure they'll slow down a bit once we get to manga material that never appeared in the original series.

So far, I'm loving this remake and can't wait to see what's ahead! :)

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

What would I do without that eyecatch?

I guess I'm going to echo the sentiments of the above and say I felt it was a little rushed, but even so I'm not sure I care. I'm absolutely elated the animation quality is so far appearing to continue being top notch. I've also gotta say that I'm loving the way the characters are so animated with the over-the-top comedic flare still. The series definitely needs it, and it certainly adds another layer of complexity to the show. In particular as Fai said, the door scene while they escaped with Rose was pure hilarity.

For the actual episode itself, as I said I'm not so sure I care that it was rushed. I am fairly sure that I'll be feeling it on the next episode with Nina and Shou, but there is a lot more ground to cover this season. So sadly, it appears some of the earlier relationships the brothers build won't necessarily get the screentime and development they deserve. Ah well.
Sorry for the long quote but Baka really summed up what I felt. Yes, it was a bit rushed but not to the point I felt I couldn't keep up or that it was hindering my enjoyment. I'm really getting into this fast pacel and I'm still enjoying this series to the full. Still my favorite this season.
