SO much better than the prequel, E7AO is just hands down beating its predecessor:

--Ao isn't a whiny piece of crap like his father (Who i hope never shows up in the series)
--Every character is actually quite likeable
--Not as much infodumping (though part of it may be there's already so much that it's hard to add any more)
-Generation Bleu is pretty much Gekkostate, let's see if they can live up to Gekko.

I'm raising my score to 7. You're doing good BONES, just don't bring Renton or any of the other unlikeable turds from the first series and use these new, high potential characters. Lots of comedy in this episode that was really well done. I'm glad I gave this sequel a chance.

I think, the Eureka+Renton scribbling on the moon is not visible from the position they are on the earth. Or they erased the scribbling on the moon.

As I recall from previous series, at the end when the Scrub Coral is about to leave from the earth, they said they will come back latter.

Sorry, In case you didn't know, the Moon always have the same side facing the Earth since it's tidally locked to Earth. And no, it doesn't matter where on Earth you're looking at the Moon from, the only difference you can see is the orientation of the phases. As for erasing the engraving... one, they do not seem to possess the technology to go beyond low-earth orbit, much less the capability to engineer away half of the entire surface of the Moon , and two, why in the world would they bother?!

and before you start talking about the half of the Scub Coral that said they may return one day, you may want to address the OTHER half ot he Scub Coral that REMAINED on Earth. You know, the ones you saw still covering half of planet Earth in E7:AO...oh wait

Nothing wrong with theorizing, but I think you're too hung up on your idea of what a "direct sequel" is that you're trying to find every little things that might support your theory while ignoring the rest of the picture.

Thank you for being one of the only people in this thread to vindicate me; a lot of people seem to really be lacking imagination and comprehension of the information that has been given. I keep bringing up these discrepancies, but they seem to keep being ignored.

And to FURTHER delve into the whole moon-argument, not only is it tidally-locked and always having the same side facing the Earth, it is precisely the side that can be seen FROM Earth that the engravings took place on, as at the very last scene of the first series, Renton's grandfather brought all the kids out at night to look at it -- and it WAS there.

I'm loving the soundtrack so much from just this one episode. But anyways, this series has so much potential in it; I'm just glad that they seem to be living up to the hype so far.

my thoughts to also glad to know they won't be pulling a Evangelion which some people were worried about this taking place in Okinawa the whole time, also does anyone know if the guy that saved Ao was in the old series he did say he was saved by it before lol just not sure if i should remember him or not.

Sorry but this series is good but its not as good Eureka 7.

-Gekko State sounds cooler than Generation Blue
-Gekko state had a good combo of females to males but in generation blue its too many females and not enough males
-Naru (the main female character) dressing in skimpy clothing and is a damsel in distress
-The main leader of Generation Blue doesn't seem to bright and relies on the on board computer to be informational leader. Compared to Holland who was a boisterous leader who had the respect of everyone.
-Not enough chemistry between Ao and his grandpa

Hopefully things will pick up and maybe this anime will be half its prodessor.

Now I'm fucking embarrassed cuz' I forgot that only one side of the moon is visible to earth. Fucking brain not thinking clearly.

Still think this is a direct sequel, and I think will be explained in forth coming episodes. (Seriously, I'm out of ideas.) Anyway I rest my case now. >.<

XD

I'm not saying E7AO is not a direct sequel to E7, Bones have said it is and I as far as I'm concerned that's good enough for me. Just saying that a direct sequel doesn't necessarily have to take place in the same world or in chronological order in a story that involves traveling through dimensions (and very possibly time as well) :)

I realize by shooting down this person's arguments, I may be 'feeding the troll' but I got annoyed.

1) That's your opinion. I think that Generation Blue & Pied Piper sounds cooler than Gekkostate - can you show me facts that say I am wrong about that opinion? No, because that is my own opinion.

2) We've only met half the cast of Generation Blue/Pied Piper. Just because half their team has vaginas, it detracts from the anime? I didn't know there were such blatant sexist remarks being made on MAL. I count three males, and three females. What are you smoking? Elena, Fleur, and Rebecka for the females; and Christophe, Ivica, and the hat-wearing man who saved AO in this latest episode.

That's 3 for each. If you could all of the characters outside Generations blue at this point - there are more males than females. Are you going to claim it's being sexist that way too now?

3) Naru has shown that she is plenty strong, she isn't a damsel - and please tell me, how is she in distress? She had to stay on the island, AO had to leave. Naru was never in distress, she was always being looked after and safe, even if she didn't want to be. Once again, what are you smoking?

4) What main leader? Ivica or Rebecka? Or Christophe? We don't know who the main leader is yet, but none of them seem very stupid, and they all have their quirks. Just because they aren't holland, doesn't mean you can insult their characters. They're all well developed, I especially like Ivica.

5) AO isn't related to his 'grandpa' - they're strangers to one another.Of course there wouldn't be chemistry. Plus, because of the situation he's in, he doesn't even want to be around the island where his 'grandpa' lives because nobody but his grandpa accepts him.

6) Technology advancement? We still don't know when this takes place in the Eureka Seven timeline, but the technology here is even lower than it was in Eureka Seven. What are you smoking (once again)? The military uses boats instead off flying bases, even the Generation Blue ship is a much smaller craft that only goes sub-orbital. None of the technology in this one surpasses anything in Eureka Seven.

Let me know if I missed any of your completely retarded arguments. I'd be glad to shoot more of them down if needed.

nice ep. We finally get confirmation on Eureka and the trapar hippie movement gave off some of the vibe of E7. Liking this a lot so far.

I don't know why people find it so hard to figure out the world here. The show has told us most of the setting pretty straight:

1) The show takes place in 2025 AD, our calendar.
2) This is, however, not our timeline. Scub corals started appearing sometime at the start of the twentieth century, at which point the timeline would presumably diverge from ours.
3) At some point, Eureka and Nirvash appeared in this new timeline.
4) People reverse engineered the technology of the Nirvash, and started mining trapar from the scub corals. This led to the creation of the FPs, IFOs and other technology which would otherwise be inconsistent with the 2025 AD date.

There are tons of details used to describe the setting and world: All the countries: Japan, China, and the US all exist in this timeline. Present-day technology and vehicles exist. This episode showed the US Army still flying the C-130 Hercules, for instance. And they even mention the Smithsonian!

Its just starting...
Ao feels more mature than Rekton, but rekton was more interesting
Music is good...
Eureka 7 was better than this new.. hope this one can surpess the 7
Eureka is still slow as always at advancing the story
Eureka 7 had lot more interesting characters, only the kids were annoying
This E Ao ep 4 feels the are some parts getting cut/skipped, but nothing chaotic
24 episodes is not enough... hope there will be more 24 episodes after this.
Gotta finish Eureka 7, im still at ep 33
There were Eureka Seven hatters, and they still exists...
If you haven't watched Eureka Seven, you better, as soon as possible... its a great anime and will help you a lot understanding this E AO.
Going and i ll continue watching this AO knowing that i ll have to re-watch it again lol.

The only problem I had with this episode is how fast the fight scene between the large secret and Ao went. Naturally they needed to show the overpowered nature of Nirvash for the new viewers, but I think they could have stretched it out for another minute at least.

That being said, I love this anime so much and I am glad that my favourite mecha anime finally got the sequel it deserved. Looking forward to hearing more about Eureka, and can't wait for Friday morning when the subs come out for the next episode.

If this ends up being set in an alternate universe or in the past.....Then honestly it'll hurt the original for me....And the original will have ended for me. I will merely treat this one as a spin-off.

"Ends up"? The first screen of the first episode said straight out it is set in the past. Almost every part of the setting shown so far has been confirming that.

I really don't understand how you could actually watch the show and not see this. It's not some deeply hidden mystery, they are saying it straight out all the time.

There's mounds of information thrown at the viewer to tell you that it's nowhere near the same timeline, if not the same universe as the original series; the vastly inferior technology seen in AO compared to the first series, among tons of other discrepancies pretty much cement that SOMETHING different is going on.

The year doesn't even need to be stated -- it's just blatantly obvious. You can treat it as a spin-off if you want, even though it canonically isn't.

Eureka falling into their dimension is likely the result of a disastrous event or accident; I doubt that Renton and his affiliations simply have access to traversing dimensions, let alone the right one; Eureka's inherent connection to the Scub Coral is almost certainly the reason she was pulled through.

And yeah, I'm pretty much sticking with the inter-dimensional travel theory unless new, conflicting information comes to light.

It has to be another dimension... I really forgot exactly, watched E7 long time ago, but when Nirvash spoke at the end, she (I think it was 'she') was telling something that half of the people will stay and other half will be taken with Coralians into another dimension or so (maybe the ones who were already in Coral Cluster, like Renton's sister)... Some new incident may have happened so Eureka was taken into this dimension as well (but maybe Renton got left behind)...

@BRSxIgnition You really put a nail in the coffin there.

Agreed for 1-5, but for (6) here's my take on it:

Yes, SOME of the technology we've seen in AO has been far inferior to that of E7 ex you mentioned battleships < floating fortresses but couter-examples exist and the technology cannot be said to be strictly inferior or superior to that of the original series:

- in the end of E7 we see Renton's GP and the kids taking a train/tram < floating vehicles/trains of AO..
- Gen Bleu's main ship > to the Gekko ship I say

NEUTRALITY exists however:
- hover cars floating over regular motorized vehicles.
- gen Bleu's plamfacing over the fighter jets going against the secret.
- the resurgence of trapar energy exploitation/use
- heck, the NIRVASH is still there

More examples will be revealed BECAUSE I believe one of the main themes we see developing in this show is that of the modern vs the old.

Explanation: The end of the original series saw both 'Earths' merging together (destroys any ideas of alternate settings). We can assume the level of technology on that other earth to be inferior to the one we were accustomed to seeing E7's crew on, hence possibly the reason for discrepancies in technologies.

@WTF Happened to Renton? Maybe he'll just pop up later in the show and be like, 'sup kiddo? Haven't seen you in a while...

What do you mean by "both Earths?" The entire series took place on the layer of Scub Coral that grew over and was suspended above the Earth - the same Earth that mankind left 10,000 years prior to the start of the series due to the rapidly growing Scub Coral that could only communicate and understand by assimilation. I thought the series made this obvious, but apparently it was too subtle.

You are not alone. It was as clear as day but a lot of people here probably watched the series 6 years ago and forgot most of it. I just finished watching the original series this week and it all makes sense. All we need now is some confirmation about the different ongoing theories.

The concept of "past" and "present" is meaningless if we are talking about different dimensions.

i dislike the eva references - and some other ones too

- Elena: "I can be replaced" - evangelion, quote of Rei, unfitting and forced, it sounded like stupid person misusing intelligent quote he doesnt understand
i dont care about this anime's reputation but when it drags down other one's too its going too far, ill never forgive this

- around 3rd minute : jets firing off missiles into The Secret - it shows that 'conventional weaponry is useless' and i cant help but see Evangelion the whole time... (actually this scene totally reminds me of Rahxephon, thx to the jet fighter designs attacking Mu-like enemy)

- right after that scene, Elena's blue mech makes familiar stance - just like Athrun Zara's from Gundam Seed - with four legs... (or Ali Al Saachez - gundam00 or any other fourarmed/legged gundam))

- the lock-on-enemy system in her mech = IDENTICAL with the one Kira Yamato uses in Gundam Seed, i was just waiting for the laser spam... creativity allright, just put there triangles instead of squares...

- instead of lasers it was homing missiles, and explosion spam, just the same way as in Code Geass (remember Lelouch using his black Nightmare against the GB airforce? (end of 1st season))

- and Elena saying " Elena, musou gauge full" - to be honest , i was expecting "Lockon Stratos, Targeting and firing" (gundam00) or something like that, the clothes, the way the scene was presented - screams gundam

- the mechs also look bit similar to Flags from Gundam 00

- The Secret totally makes you think of an Angel from Evangelion - big and invulnerable
- G-Monsters - Ramiel anyone?

and this is just this single episode

i realize some references may be indirect or coincidence or an inspiration or just similarity as one mechanime to another, but its too much...

series is good - 7/10, but weak, biggest disappointment is
- the wishy-washy soundtrack (i wanted more Sato Naoki, not this...)
- no riffing(no freedom! no flying in the wind)
- soulless characters - you could see the adventure seeking nature of Renton, mysteriousness of Eureka and the ambivalence in Holland from the very beginning
what do we have here? fanservice girls, and pretty boy, who will get on my nerves more than Renton thx to his 'follow everyone else' nature - and by the way he is totally like Renton(determination)+Eureka(fragile, 'deppressions' ='im different'), he is really their child... but i dont think it works well for main character

i think this is dumbed down version of its prequel

I thought the Nirvash evolved into a higher being and left along with the Scab Coral, so why the need to become a machine again and be piloted?

Also I still don't get anything yet...so far i know Eureka is Ao's mother, but it doesn't make sense...what about the three kids who were praying for "mama" to come back in the last episode of Eureka Seven? She abandon them?

This series is a sequel due to the fact that Eureka is somehow related to the plot and the Nirvash...

Why is the Scab Coral attacking? or so it seems? I thought it wanted to live with the humans and whatnot, hence the reason Eureka and other Coralians exist in human forms...

Too early for me to say, but with only 24 episodes and A LOT to explain since this is a so called sequel I hope they don't screw up the plot

Too early for me to say, but with only 24 episodes and A LOT to explain since this is a so called sequel I hope they don't screw up the plot

after watching 9 eps im pretty sure that isn't even the real nirvash :| it's prolly a full machine mecha made special due to eureka's involvement

Calling it the Nirvash has to have some kind of relation with the previous one...otherwise why bother call it Nirvash?

Anyone else think Naru would go with Ao? Seems kind of pointless for her to stay.

and i'm in the time travel camp. I think this is in the past for some reason.

She has a home and a biological family; she can't leave her way of life as easily as Ao can.

I can't remember his name, and I'd look it up if he were a more prominent character, but he isn't; I wouldn't get too wrapped up in it. If you're asking his connection to Gen Bleu and Ao, he recalled that the Nirvash Ao is flying was what saved Okinawa from the scub burst ten years prior, so he feels he owes a sort of debt, and found repayment by helping Ao.

He's just some random Okinawan who works on Plant Coral. He's later shown

Need more fanservice/boobies for sure..

but I don't have any urge to drop it yet, so that's a good sign.

Let's hope it doesn't disappoint like 90% of the reviews.
