Dead Dead Demon's De De De Destruction is hands down my favorite manga of all time. It literally changed my life and you should totes give it a read, it does not dissapoint. Inio Asano is a god!

I'm pretty excited for the next jojos, *cough* hot girl mc huehuehue! I don't mind artstyle, im not really picky and i own a few volumes of Stardust Crusaders which is my favorite.

My favorites have mostly? stayed the same over the years. Hunter x Hunter and One Piece are for sure forever on the list. Some of the simulcast anime have been hella good lately, that 10th spot may change for me.

For Boogiepop i've seen it around, definitly wanna watch it! im a huge fan of psychological shows!

Lemme know if ya wanna join my discord server, its got like 12 members and we're all anime fans in Iowa. Ages ranging from 15-40 lol

ayeee no problem, I love the Makima profile picture she's a total goddess.

You have really good taste my dude, we share some favorites like goodnight punpun, berserk, monster, hunter x hunter, wolf's rain, flowers of evil, baccanno!, and chainsaw man.

I keep hearing good things about steel ball run, I've only seen the Jojo's anime, super tempted to read the manga. Hellsing, Boogiepop, and Vinland Saga are currently on my to watch/to read list :D

I probably haven't been reading the arguments from the other side as diligently as you have, so I have a limited knowledge of those with...substantive arguments and reasoning. And yes, there are some out there on the other side who's words aren't so acrid. But enough with the prefacing; I found most of those from the 'other side' are only injecting their personal bias and frustration against the show, or rather how different it was from PoP:E7. Basically, it boils down to whether people want to accept Aikawa's twist on the E7 universe and his narrative style, along with the faults that come with it. We and a few others accept it for what it was despite its faults (and argue them), but it seems to me that those on the other side, even those that say more than a few lines, are those that are just simply unwilling to even look at the series critically. Instead of critically arguing against the overall success of the anime, they simply ignore that and end up disguising their 'arguments' as an excuse to vent. Though, it's not that I don't understand some their frustrations to a degree, it's just that there's so much in AO that people didn't bother to see/not willing to see that it kind of gets me down.

Still, despite all the hate stacked against AO, I think that all the time I spend agonizing over the long posts I make in favor of AO is worth it. Plus, I could always use some practice in making better arguments, especially with anime and a fresh piece of work like AO.
Kjeldoran109 Dec 22, 2012 10:47 PM
I basically agree with the blog post; it takes serious contemplation and reflection, but AO took the E7 series in a bold and fresh direction, and I enjoyed it for what is was. There's no denying that we're in the minority. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing; I'm no psychoanalyst, and I don't think it is as simple a matter that we like to think more compared to most. I wrote a review on this site for AO (though in retrospect, I think I was a bit too generous with my score) and outlined that it is impossible not to compare PoP with AO due to AO's pedigree. Most people wanted a presentation similar to PoP, and since it wasn't, it alienated many viewers.

I've always been the type that just watched shows and kept my opinions to myself. Over the years, I have visited the forums here to get some opinions on certain series/episodes, but I was always an observer. I missed my chance on Guilty Crown, and to a certain extent the discussion of AO as it aired. Well, better late than never, I say. Simply put, I got sick and tired of standing on the sidelines and watching everyone bash the series ("E7 has no sequel," "Ao erased himself and made everything invalid so AO was pointless," etc.). I suppose that's why we're both here, to some extent.

I could say the same for you. I do the best I can to make logical/coherent arguments, clearly differentiate between objective/subjective analysis, and respect other opinions. However, I cannot guarantee that I will always free of grammatical errors. I suppose old habits die hard; I rarely edit/check for errors in my writings immediately, which is why you'll likely never see a post of mine without signs of me editing it. In any case, I look forward to our future meetings and discussions; I'm sure our paths will cross in the future outside of the AO forums.

I definitely agree that the character building was a weaker element of the show. I think it focused a lot on the plot and the setting and kind of ignored it a bit too much (even if there is faults in those elements).

I think several people kind of admitted it themselves by saying they probably wouldn't hate the show so much if it wasn't "Eureka Seven". It's a shame as the success of the show may be affected by this, and we may never get any more exposition to the world and universe. Though guess we can only hope.

I could say I understand it, but I also feel like it is pretty unjustified and biased. You can sum majority of the complaints as "it wasn't what I wanted in a sequel so I am mad". Rather than even trying to take notice of where it was coming from, or what it was trying to do differently. (Most notably the theme of love between friends and family as opposed to romantic love. Not much point telling the same kind of story twice)

It did surprise me with its boldness too. And like you said on the thread, it certainly wrapped up more story threads than I expected. The secrets are probably the only plot-hole that is really bothering me, but oh well.

Once again you manage to be one of the only people I've seen post in the Eureka Seven Ao discussions that doesn't make me lose brain cells and slam my head against my desk. The ending wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. I think most people came into the show expecting a lovey-dovey romance continuation and have done nothing but whine and complain when they didn't get it.

I think most people have overlooked that the entire sequel is based around the implication of Eureka / Renton's decisions really. But guess they need to find an excuse to hate on it.

Granted, his goal of world destruction is rather contrived and pretty stereotypical, I think I enjoy Truth as a villain though, simply because unlike the rest of the so-called "Villains" of the show, Truth is at least arguably more memorable than all of them, and I found his introduction to the show rather spectacular.

Yeah I can see that, although I can see Truth going out simply because of his own madness as opposed to anything that the characters can do (unless Ao is able to somehow magically get the "archetype" for his Nirvash, not sure how that would work without some major ass-pulls though).

For me, the moment when AO's story looked superior in my eyes was back in episode 12, that episode knocked me for six when I saw the Gekko again; however I think if I was to have a complaint about AO's storyline, it's the whole time-bending and Universe jumping mechanic that the show has going on...it just feels so lacking - especially since that's probably not going to get answered within the next two episodes.

I can understand why people think the execution is lacking, and I'll agree, at times the writing has been a let down for me, but I still think the concepts and ideas behind the show are better than those in the original series. Having said that, the original series IS superior to AO and I'll be first to admit that, I don't think it deserves anywhere near as much hate as it's getting though.

Oh I'm aware that the characters aren't as fleshed out anywhere near as much as they should be, but I don't think it's a show-breaker in this particular instance. Would I like it if the characters were more developed than they are? Yes, probably so, but I think if they were going to develop the characters, the series length would have been longer as well (especially as they would have been able to answer the questions a hell of a lot better than they actually are going to, unless they're able to spectacularly blow everyone's mind). A season 2 would probably be better in the end.

Np. It always pleases me to see someone who critically engages with the material in anime rather than just take it at face value. Something that annoys the heck outta me about a large amount of anime viewers. You always raise good and fair points that I don't see how somehow could argue with.
Masserati_ Sep 29, 2012 5:27 AM
I've seen you commenting on the Eureka Seven AO forums a lot (I think I'm turning into a consistent stalker of your posts) and I have to say I near enough agree with you objectively on everything you've said.

I went into the show with a very similar mindset, that is, I only loved the show out of nostalgia as opposed to anything the show offered me on an on objective level (having said that, I'm going to re-watch it pretty soon to see if I can still find the show good); I was also worried that BONES would pull a Gonzo, and horribly mess up a sequel to a good show - although you may be aware of this statement already assuming that you've seen the post I put on the November conclusion post.

With that said, I'm really enjoying it, I agree that the story is convoluted as all hell, I personally don't believe that they can answer each mystery the series has to offer without giving up really rushed explanations (and in my eyes I see the break as the writers realizing this, and spending the entirety of October and most of November figuring out how they should end this...assuming they don't decide to go for the option of making a sequel, which would be a rather large troll).

Personally, I'm finding Truth to be a pretty good villain who also seems to be the only character to have had any real character development over the series - I also believe quite strongly that the story of AO is superior to that of the original series in terms of execution and being able to throw me for a loop each time an episode airs (I've given up on trying to come up with theories on the show, I'll just get them disproved every time thanks to its logic). I understand that people want character development, but in this particular instance, I think the story wins out in terms of importance.

What are your thoughts on that anyway? (assuming my rather arrogant sounding little post doesn't totally scare you away and you reply).
Tyrel Sep 21, 2012 5:34 PM
Sup, since I always see you on Eureka forum, I decided to ask away here xD. How do you think they'll release the last 2 episodes (Of this season), IMO they can't finish the series with 3 episodes. Also I think we might have to wait until February for BDs, or they will announce something next episode about the dates.
Stark700 Jun 28, 2012 11:57 PM
Ya, I just changed that. I realized I made some minor mistakes with spelling that have big differences LOL.

But thanks for taking the time, appreciated :)
Mineko Sep 13, 2011 8:03 AM
Yup, they're minor issues and forgivable (especially considering the low budget show has): T&B is my favorite of the year too. What an emotional rollercoaster, I love it.
Now, T&B S2 with an increase in production value and including the same cast has a really nice ring to it, so I hope it'll happen.

One week to suffer... I wish it would be saturday already. Then again, at the same time, I don't want it to end just yet... :(
It’s time to ditch the text file.
