the animation looks fine
people are just ungrateful crybabies
looks like it will be a fun anime to spend time with and that is what matters the most
@mobxmentality I don't understand why? The manga has been successful for a reason so it's natural that people expect a high level of production from this series, but what we get is average at best, which doesn't really do justice to the work itself.

Soon this Anime goona Blow Up. first Episode might seem bit slow but the writer tell us most things plus we can guess some things about it. Those who like action type and bit spice with comedy and romance it will be masterpiece. Wating for second episode

Sakamoto kicks ass and he's a family man. Came here expecting a repeat of The Fable (unironically my favorite anime from last year), which is also about an assassin who's not allowed to kill. The vibe I got here was a mix of that and Saiki K. Lots of action and comedy. I'm gonna love this.

feels like I had to wait forever for this anime but it's finally here and I love it : ) the animation isn't the best but that doesn't matter much to me. I rarely find anime to be actually funny but this first episode was pretty entertaining. I haven't read the manga so everything is a surprise ;p

The first episode kicks off with a strong and entertaining start. The blend of action and comedy is well-balanced, and the protagonist’s unexpected transition from a deadly hitman to a humble store owner is both unique and engaging.

The pacing keeps things lively, and the fight scenes are creative and fun to watch. It’s a solid introduction that promises plenty of action-packed, lighthearted moments to come. Definitely worth checking out for fans of action-comedy series.

I watched the episode, the animation was pretty cool. Not the best but still good. Action was pretty cool too, I think they extended the last fight scene, which I rly liked a lot, I was worried the entire fight was gonna be just stills lol. As an adaptation this could be better, but still a very fun episode, the black blurry bars in the beginning were kinda annoying tho. 8/10.

Living happily with your wife and child is far better than being an assasin how good one be. Shin realised it soon good for him.

As always anime watchers overreacted to everything, animation is fine it's not doomed like people made you believe.

Let's see if it lives up to hype, I liked the premise for what it is...

I mean.. I feel like people overreacted with the OP. Animation is kinda ass, but combined with the song it gives early 2000s vibes. Think everyone just so used to the JJK, CSM, etc style of OP they forgot how shit used to look. I know manga fans were upset with the initial trailers, but I liked this opening episode. I don’t have anything to compare it with in terms of manga chapters, so just going in blind and it was a fun time. Def worked for me as anime only.

Sakamoto might be the first fat dude with aura? Love a good badass former hitman tries to leave the life only to be forced back in story. All the complaints from fans online had me thinking this was gonna be ass and it turned out great. Yea the animation ain’t JJK or Solo leveling, but it was solid. I like Shin and Sakamoto and the fight choreography was great too. Nice little introduction into this world, characters and the sort of thing we can expect. Even though Sakamoto wants to protect these mundane everyday vibes, I don’t think his past will let him.

Shin being able to read minds and telegraph opponents is dope as well, wonder if we’ll see any other supernatural abilities!
@Marinate1016 I compare it to a combination of Hitman games and Red.

So overall I am okay. I am disappointed but I was wrong in same time, the animations are quite okay. I would say mid is the best word to describe the animation here. As in if it goes worse than this in any capacity, it will be bad…

The episode was good though because I do love the characters and story of this. It gets better after a while. Looking forward for the next episodes.

But again I just can’t leave it like this. This manga deserved soooooo much better. It deserved the Dandadan treatment and we got this. Anyone acting like everything shouldn’t always reach that, don’t understand how big this manga is in general. Like imagine if JJK, demon slayer or dandadan got the same treatment? You would be annoyed.

It’s not blue lock S2 situation thankfully but still I am disappointed. I hope they hear the criticism and delay the second cour till they make it look better.

Anime of the season.

The scene when Shin shoot the bullet at Sakamoto in slow motion was incredible. I can’t believe people were saying this was bad based on the trailers alone, c’mon.

The 'Yuki Hayashi' soundtrack is carrying the actions scenes hard, if the soundtrack was worse I probably wouldn't be enjoying these fight scenes. Although the fight choreography in the convience store fight was good. I want more of that and less of the 'everybody keep chasing and shooting the all powerful hitman who is literally dodging our bullets' with bad animation.

While this anime isn't a disaster by any means, I'm genuinely curious how this turned out.

Did TMS acquire the rights to adapt it thinking it was a 'half slice-of-life, half action' type of series, instead of the high octane battle shounen it actually is?

Did the director and staff choose a simpler art style thinking it would make it easier to animate sakuga (e.g. Mob Psycho), then partway through production they realised they didn't have the animation talent but kept the simpler style anyway?

At least it's better than what Yostar Pictures did with their "Go! Go! Loser Ranger!" adaptation. Which had some great production values, but was squandered by the crappy direction and the removal of most of the fight choreography. Everyone wants a 'Demon Slayer'-level adaptation until you get one that makes every other element of the production worse for the sake of nice visuals.

I think that’s what most people don’t understand, this should have better animation than JJK in general tbh. The manga deserves it, so you can’t fault them for wanting that.

I haven’t read to be able to dispute but I have read JJK and it’s like pure action with heavy emphasis on movement and choreography in the panels. Is Sakamoto just like that? I thought it was more focus on the characters here

Wow what a start. This one for sure was one of the most awaited anime of the year by me and many others of course.

Of course fat people can be fast and strong too, you don't lose that kind of training. Like girls I've seen that can really dance. I love this.

Also, focusing on the family is so cute. This anime is aimed to millenials for sure that aim to build a family ❤️❤️, or that already have one with animals (dogs, cats, you name it). It really touches my heart, I recently got married after a long time together 🥲.

It doesn't look great but compared to some of the trailers and the bland ass looking opening I saw a little while back, the execution and adaptation wasn't awful. The series itself isn't the most exciting to me in the long run but early days of the manga were fine for me and that's what I feel with this episode too. It's not great, but not bad either. Not everything needs to have the greatest animation sequences ever to be a good show. Sugita's also a strong choice to voice Sakamoto, even if he actually doesn't talk that much in this episode. Sakamoto's a decent enough, fun character this episode to watch and Shin plays off him well, and it is interesting seeing a main Shounen Jump character not just be an adult, but one with a wife and kid too already. Not too often that happens.

Well this thread is more or less looking about how I expected it to lol.

Sure, it doesn’t look as good as I would have hoped for it to look, considering how this has arguably the best action scenes/choreography in Jump right now, but it didn’t seem as bad as people are making it out to be. At least for me, idk maybe I’m missing something or others have become way too picky.

Animation aside, as for the actual episode itself it was a great adaptation. I’m just happy to see this all come to life finally. Vaundy never misses, and his OP is another banger. Regardless of how it looks, I’m still excited for the rest of the season.

To be quick: Yes, it does turn action heavy with great storytelling. It’s actually very famous because of fight choreography in the panels. It has better ones than JJK imo

@HorsePersonMan The adaptation got greenlit pretty early, i guess at the time where other studios were busy and TMS was pretty much the only choice. Now we've got an adaptation that is full of speedlines, slow-mo, flashy lights and wind trails. It's basically just full of effects to make up for the stiff movement. I honestly don't have a clue on why Watanabe Masaki was picked as the director, it doesn't even seem like he has that much experience on the role. Everything just seems to be done just to be done.

TMS's best staff isn't even on SD as there's the new Lupin movie coming out and Dr.Stone is also airing at the moment.

People don't even try to look at the faults, they just accept it. Some don't even see it and think this is the best thing ever.

Just look at this simple panel, but at the same time how fluid it is.
Then look at the adaptation of it.

@IzanaSolos you must be the absolute worst at party’s. What did you want out of it?? It portrayed the manga panel for panel plus a little extra, the animation was good (some of you dorks wanting dandadan style or chainsaw man or sooo stupid it would look so weird for this manga), voices work great?? So you actually hated the manga and are just here to gripe and be a hater for fun cause that’s what you do?

An action scene from the get-go. Sakamoto, once a legendary hitman, now lives a life as a married convenience store owner humbly chowing on cup ramen. When anything threatens him, his family or his patrons, he demonstrates that he's still got it despite his weight.

The OP has very 2000s shounen vibes. People need to keep in mind it's only OP1, I'm sure future OPs may have more action to better represent the series (compare JJK OP1 to its later OPs, for example) .

From the opening flashback, to the cough drop, to saving Shin, I, as an anime-only, think TMS Entertainment's animation for the fight scenes were fluid and done rather well.

I'm pretty excited about where this series is headed. The first episode did a great job of setting up the premise and introducing characters.

Someone said "what if we took Gokushufudou, made the animation marginally less shit, and made him a shopkeep instead of a house husband?", and this was the outcome. It's not bad, but that's about all I can give it. I'll withhold judgment as to if it's fun or not for now, but episode 1 didn't particularly win me over.

All you freaks whining about the trailer abit suck my fick is in order. The anime community is so reactionary and entitled sometimes it’s hilarious.

That opening fight sequence was great animation and the rest of the the episode was above average aswell so a kid of feet mongering for nothing. Anyways good first episode you morons just ought to shut up before the first episode is even released.
