Mangaka Egumi Sora's rom-com series may not be the first to be very specific to regionalized love (that goes to Kei Ikada's Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi a.k.a Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!), but it's worth noting that this fresh trope is still something that's at least a shot. HY's OP, as well as every ending being Okinawa-related songs, it's decent. The new transfer student from Tokyo, Teruaki Nakamura, being enamored by the girl that he likes of Hina Kyan...there's only one problem: he doesn't understand her rather strong Okinawan accent with the Uchinagguchi dialect, and has to have her fellow friend of Kana Higa to help on just about every translation. The rather traumatizing Zombieland Saga apocalypse reference for Nakamura aside (since everyone is named the same), it would be better to call people by their first names instead, but it's clear that this embarrasses Kana quite the bit, and if mentioned in a certain way, would indicate certain things...like a confession as well. Despite the eloquence of the Uchinagguchi dialect, it's a lot of tongue-and-cheek when mentioning the meanings in Okainwan language, from the Mabuigumi (which is hitting very hard on the back), and having sada andagi (fried dough snack) which Nakamura's classmates are SO eager to show him what Okinawa is made of in terms of food, hence the Kamee Kamee Attack that's a form of welcome to anyone outside of the city itself. Even Kana also wants to give Nakamura her sada andagi, but couldn't pluck her courage to, until Hina comes along with her carefree spirit...to only be relegated as her own Kamee Kamee Attack lols. What a fierce premiere, Nakamura has a lot to contend to for this one... |

Happy 65th Anniversary of Ryukyuan television network! (since the Americans said "yes" to the first Okinawan television channel, Okinawa Terebi, which is part of production commitee here). I found this lovely as a person who technically speak Yamatu-uchinaaguchi. This gets spreaded through Crunchyroll too is also appreciated especially a lot of Americans are connected to Okinawans. Ippē, ippē nifē debīru! |

I’m up for learning more about Okinawa after seeing it as a 1 or 2 episode summer trip destination in loads of shows and movies. The whole language thing is already getting a little weary and it’s only the first episode. I hope they move beyond that and focus on other stuff about Okinawa. Practically no character development for his crush, she’s just this girl that runs around spouting Okinawa language. He seems more suited to the other girl. This may get the three episode treatment, but I hope it gets better. |

Kana > Hina. MC, is... uninteresting. Still, I'm rooting for Kana's!!! I know that the main girl will be Hina in the end, unfortunately. This is not a spoiler and more of a guess and intuition. |
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it, is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service. |

So far, this is pretty much Hokkaido Gals but set in the southernmost prefecture of Japan instead of the northernmost. The sata andagi segment was the funniest, they included Evangelion references and Teruaki received a lifetime's supply of sata andagi. Osaka would love it. |

Nice first episode. The Okinawa lore was quite intense plus Hina's Okinawan accent (subtitles) were hard to follow. Yup, I dig Kana. She's an adorable gal. I really want her to win but yea, we know Hina's gonna bag the W in the end. |

This anime has started with such a beauty and charm. Kaanaa is so adorable, and Okinawa seems gorgeous and welcoming. |

Visually it's nice, but it was a chore to get through. This whole language barrier thing is going to get old fast. Amazing how all these closeted Okinawan experts are coming out in these threads. |

One minute into the show and I'm already sold! The art style is so majestic, the character designs are visually stunning, while the characters themselves are authentic. Not to mention how fortunate the mc is, living the dream of brownskin heaven...😭 Only to be taken out by a Kame kame attack! What ever this genre of culture anime this is, Japan needs to make more shows of this caliber! Also was anyone able to make out the Japanese words from Okinawaguichi? Okinawa girls > Hokkaido Girls Edit: Ironic how most people are against the gimmick of the show but would praise Komi can't communicate to be a great show despite the same concept. 🙃 Also the plot thickens (See below) |

This has been one of the shows i've looked most forward to this season and first episode sure doesn't disappoint. The characters are really lovely, the art style is nice and it's a really fun setting. I'm really looking forward to getting to know our characters better, and i really hope the romance in the story actually goes somewhere, no matter if it's with Hina or Kana (though i am rooting for my girl Kana). It's also really fun to learn more about Okinawa too, which the shows seems to be more than happy to tell more about, it's a region i would love to learn more about. Now i really want to try some sata andagi too, who wouldn't want fried sugar dough! |
⠀ ⠀ 【Nawic】 Enjoy the shows you love, relish the feelings you have, but never forget to keep an open mind. Challenge yourself and you'll truly find your own thoughts and feelings. |

@Darkinvaders5 Now? In my opinion, she looked like their daughter or third wheel from the very beginning. |

I thought that Okinawan culture wouldn't be that different from Japan's, but I was wrong. If a Japanese person like Teruaki has a hard time understanding their dialect, imagine a foreigner who knows some Japanese. This anime is adorable and educational, and gives an insight into the customs and culture of the Okinawan region. The ED is nice, seemingly based on a traditional Okinawan theme, and I really like the color palette the anime uses. As for the romance, it's fun and cute. Hina's voice actress does an amazing job, and while Hina is lovely, I can't deny my preference for Kana. I just hope that, unlike his struggle to understand Okinawan dialect, Teruaki realizes Kana's feelings for him and that his crush on Hina changes over time. |

The first episode offers an intriguing premise of a guy falling for an Okinawan girl while struggling with a language barrier. The setting and the characters are charming, with the series effectively capturing the unique cultural and linguistic differences between them. However, the pacing is a bit slow, and the plot doesn't quite hit the emotional mark just yet. The humor is there, but it's more quirky than laugh-out-loud. Overall, the show has potential, but it needs to deepen its character development and connection to really stand out. A solid start, but there’s room for improvement. |

As a big fan of the manga (waiting for the next volume in a few days), I was surprised and happy to hear about it getting an anime. I enjoy reading about Okinawan culture and learning the Ryukyu language. And Kana is very cute! On that part I think this anime will do its job and sell itself to the population of mainland Japan. The English speaking community though... my suspicion is that most viewers will watch this with the expectation of it being a regular romcom, which it very much isn't. Its first and foremost an educational piece about Okinawa and maybe fifth down the line comes the romcom aspect.
I'm among the niche in the English speaking community this appeals to and I really liked it. The anime did a great job adapting the manga! The voice actors are great and the pacing is good considering what they had to work with and it being an episodic.

First episode was very good, and I hope that others episodes will have as much references to Okinawan culture ang language as this one. I hope I will learn much from this title before going to Okinawa this year. |

@Ryssen how diverse/creative are the gags in the source? I loved the segments but I feel like the language barrier topic could get exhausting if one doesn't engage in learning the language |

great animation, cute characters. the double subtitles and “i can’t understand her” trope is going to get annoying FAST. this is obviously more or less an okinawa ad, and i’m not fond of the short 2-4 minute segments as opposed to an actual 20 minute plot. idk if i’ll continue |
