I thought it was gonna be a lot darker and serious but it surprised me with the comedy aspect. I still like it nonetheless.

The ending was nice, but I feel like there could've been more. I hope we have a second season.

I really enjoyed this show, the visuals went crazy at times and I liked how sometimes real-world footage would be sporadically thrown in to explain certain concepts. The CGI was bad though, I get why they used it here and there but it was bad. Especially when we'd get a close-up shot of a character and suddenly they're full CGI. Still, I like the story, characters, and setting so hopefully a 2nd season comes soon.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Tonal whiplash aside(only an issue at the beginning tbh), this was pretty fun to watch. Visuals are pretty good too, though the CGI does flip-flop quite a bit, ranging from watchable to not so.

S2 looks inevitable, and I am hoping for more of Takauji.

Great job by everyone, they all worked hard together to get the desired result.
Kojiro showed a lot of guts facing off against an adult like that, thankfully he made friends with those people to help him win.
Tokiyuki will definitely make a great lord one day.
I will watch a 2nd season if there is one eventually.
8/10

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

Okay, that was a load of fun and I just love when shows have their own style and flair.

In the end, it came down to an honourable retreat which is very fitting for the series title. We got the Takauji tease on episode 10, after all.

Show did feel it derailed a little bit but I’m liking where this is going, nonetheless. I’m surprised the strategist didn’t decide to take out the puppet leader. I get his point about bad leadership but he’s just too rash and would lead to a lot of more casualties. Koujirou not taking out the general might prove to be a little naive in the long run too. Kazama’s dream lady wasn’t fake after all, xD.

Seeing the happy faces in the end there was wonderful upon the forces return. Tokiyoki-dono and co.’s return in the form of scroll writing was a great touch too.

8/10 from here, here’s to hoping for a sequel with equally creative content! It’s not going to be easy topping this op and ed, that’s for certain, lol.

this anime has been a phenomenal experience, and it ended on a strong note (from which I hear cloverworks tend to struggle with, but i havent really watched many cloverworks anime)

watching tokiyuki and his friends grow throughout this turbulent time period has been very fun, and the character's themselves most definitely feel the same way.

i love how in moments where Tokiyuki is brought back into a dark place through his family's death or when he feels insecurities due to his circumstances, the tense atmosphere is instantly dispelled by Yorishige cracking a joke or two, then making sure to encourage him. the whole nature of that and the way that older people are characterized with goofy features like Sadamune's eyes or Yorishige's blinding light really makes me feel like im looking into this time period through the eyes of a child.

i also liked how this episode and the one before it were focused on how tokiyuki fits within the samurai code of honor and stuff, like tokiyuki is someone who runs away and he has to deal with a bunch of soldiers who want to die honorable deaths, his criticism of that whole idea and showing them how they can find victory in running away felt like a good point to end the season on.

if we were in the year 3055, or in the 13th century, or basically in any other time period than this one then we wouldn't be able to experience and watch this anime, in the same way that tokiyuki and yorishige could only exist and experience because they were in that specific time period. looking back on it now it seems like a pretty shitty time period to live in, but despite that, and despite all of the war and bloodshed Tokiyuki and his friends still manage to enjoy themselves.

i think that the ED encapsulates this point perfectly, all of the characters, enemies and allies both getting together and playing around.

no matter what era we live in, we can't stop having fun!

OMG Kojirou is like the cutest brave warrior ever. I would have idolized him when I was eleven. Oh yea just as you're thinking Hey this is a cute kids show he goes and splits a guy's head open...
This is one of the weirdest takes on Samurai anime I've ever seen. The ending theme is ridiculous, the enemies are all literal clowns and all of them are morons, but it's bloody as hell. Think definitely planned for more seasons, at least one more. This did not reach Greatness level because it was too weird and messed up and too violent to also be a comedy, but I guess I'm thankful for the lighthearted tone since otherwise this would have been too dark and depressing. It was so much more pleasant to watch than like Meiji Gekken 1874...
Some of the goons they fought were a little too freaky and comically drawn. I got Golden Kamuy vibes at times, other times I was just confused. But then Tokiyuki, Kojirou, Genba and Shizuku were so freaking adorable it was like... didn't know what to consider. Will definitely watch S2 but only if it stays the same. It has a unique thing going and I love the characters too much.

The ending didn't feel like an ending. I thought we'd get the announcement of the second season soon... it was a fun action and revenge show.

Kojiro vs that UB Yonemaru was Amazing battle!!

"Losing has never felt so good." What a quote.

Gonna missed all the goofy and their shenanigans.
Overall it's a good historical action Anime with comedy in it.

7.5/10 from me

Hopefully we got season 2 announcement ASAP.

It had its great moments, it had shit moments too. Bizarre elements will certainly stick in my head for some time. The animation was either superb or cringe (with some CGI). This better get a continuation though, otherwise S1 would amount to just a ton of weird shit on a golden platter.

Pretty enjoyable first season. Can't wait for the next season. The animation was really good as expected of CLW. Quite ambitious.

Perfect summary. And the very first/final field sequences, respectively in the first and last episode, looked awfully like ai.

Who needs endings anyway? Better having a truly badass and interesting op villain, hyping him and... oh wait time's up. Let's just show the kids riding away.
Peeps are calling this solid, great, amazing. I call it trolling. 10th episode had better closure than the 12th: cliffhanger, but at least with intrigue and new elements, instead of a stupidly mid battle.
The cute boys and Takauji's potential are literally my only reasons to keep watching - if they renew this, I won't cry if they won't.

watching, waiting, commiserating

Nice battle to end this season and of course it's gonna continue since we're in the middle of the story, not everyone will agree with me but I would say this show has been totally carried by its animation, direction and OST, I mean the production overall is perfect but the story doesn't use the potential it had at the beginning especially regarding the MC and the whole "elusive samurai" aspect, it just became kind of boring with these battles and despite the pacing feeling good the show itself feels kinda slow regarding the events, still a fine show to me overall but if I had to read the manga I would probably dislike it

I liked it more than I thought I would. We've got a main character who's fun to follow as well as an effective secondary cast, especially Yorishige in season 1.

I liked the storytelling, the breaking of the 4th wall and the elements that link the past and the present and its integration into the narrative, as well as the ingenious implementation of the supernatural. The author knew what he was doing.

From a visual point of view, we're dealing with one of the most impressive shows of the year, full of well-developed visual ideas. I mean, whereas I've found that the Japanese animation medium has been stagnating for the last 10 years visually speaking, I tell myself that here it does honour to modern times with something technically irreproachable: 3D, animation, compositing, sets, sound effects. A very competent team produced this anime.

I think it lacked a touch of epicness to make it a favourite. The fact that children can compete so easily against an army of adults is also a bit of a turn-off for me (the show is apparently based on historical events), and it's a shame that even in the current manga I think they're still children, the idea of following all the stages of a life in a shônen is something I really appreciate, but it doesn't have to last forever either.

Nevertheless, I'm excited to see what happens next.

Great ending to a season man this was actually a really good arc I loved Kojiro’s fight with y he fat dude bro sliced up his face vertically ouch but the funniest part about this episode had to have been Kojiro dissing the people with special facial features like the rectangle feature guy or the bald dude who isn’t bald but just shaved his small hairs that shit was so funny man I loved it😭🤣😭🤣😭😭😭

One thing about this show that I love also is the weird ass character designs man like the dude with the chipmunk teeth or the dude with the bulging eye balls they are so funny looking it was a joy to see how goofy the enemy was gonna look like everytime Tokiyuki got into a problem😭 I wanna see more designs so I might just read the manga after this

Ong looking forward to season 2 so badly man idc if yall didn’t like the bits where there were CGI, horses are hard to draw in 2D majority of times so I see why they went with that choice + the 2D animation was superb in every episode man there was always a sakuga moment in an episode which was great to see everytime man🤩🔥🤩🔥🤩

10/10 for me based of my enjoyment that I had with watching this anime🔥😫 (9/10 if I’m being objective on my rating for this show)
