Sagiri barely gets any focus at all... jesus... And the Byakugo guy or whatever his name is, quite possibly the least interesting character ever. But I liked how they try to kill two birds with one stone on explaining things.

Nice lore reveals this episode. So Tao is the essence of life that you need spiritual balance to utilize? Basically my dumb downed understanding of it. Otherwise this is what we got this episode:

1. Gabimaru used his free agency to sign up with team Gantetsusai and Fuchi. A power move, if you will. I wish it would stay like this but Gabimaru will probably need to link back up with Sagiri and the other 2.

2. Mei matured for some reason. Maybe cuz she tapped into her potential?

3. Shion says he won't teach Nurugai but off handedly does it anyway

4. The brothers make it out of that death pit but are unfortunately met with another obstacle. I hope Choubei makes out of that somehow, but ain't looking good...

4.5/5 nice ep

Lots of lore dumps about the universe this show is set in itself. So Tao flows through everything, and everything is created by its flow, to touch it is to touch the origin of the universe(?) Mastering Tao grants one "godlike strength and body" but requires extreme focus and lots of training, but doing so indefinitely lets one exceed their normal capabilities.

So a crack theory, seems like Tao isn't something known to humanity, yet there are some people who have subconsciously or unknowingly trained in it. That explains how a lot of the characters have shown some incredibly superhuman capabilities. Shion i think was the best example, he explains how although visually impaired, he's able to know about his surroundings more then others after training himself. What he's actually been doing is training himself in Tao thus improving both his senses but physical capabilities.
Also interesting to think about, with all the talk about Tao being linked to waves, and to achieved Tao is through a lot of training and especially what seems to be inner peace, we see Sagiri use Tao a couple eps back only after her talk with Genji and Gabimaru that heightened her motivation and coming to terms with herself. Cool representation to show growth for a character.

I found the way the show explained how Tao worked to be well done. The show during the discussion of Tao also flicks through a number of characters and scenes back to back, each character in their own situation, but all the characters shown are indirectly showing the use of Tao or explaining its functionalities. To start Mei begins the whole topic by mentioning it with "Mind body, strong weak", the scene swaps to Hoko who explains it further about connecting to everything/universe and mastering it makes you exceed limits, then Shion who by explaining how he can seem to have almost better senses then an average human while being blind actually explains another use of Tao. It can be imagined like a wave, these waves flow around our bodies and are able to give outlines of our surroundings, then also explains using these waves improves both sense and physical capabilities. Then it flicks between Shion and Hoko both explaining the mindset you need and what it can achieve for you. Finally, although might be a reach, the fights that Shion and Gabimaru then get in can be the show then proving some of the characters using Tao without even knowing they are using it. But i think the brothers fight vs the Doshi is an important scene after learning about Tao vision, it showed how an individual can analysis an opponent's strength based on their Tao, and also find blind spots with it.
Overall really cool cinematography that i thought was interesting to pick on.

I might be to smooth brained, but from what I understood from Senta's analysis was that this place isn't the real Shinsekyo. The Tensen and much of the religion on the island is actually a mix of a few religions and has a close link to Moro Makiya Religion when he tried to overthrow the shogunate?

At episode 1, this was the show I was least interested in watching. And despite the formulaic dip between episodes ~4-8, it has once again demonstrated its the show I'm most excited for. Man, the way Shion deflected Nurugai's katana and deftly returned it to its sheat was so cool.

glad the brothers are still alive, too. I was really let down by their sudden and anticlimactic (death) several episodes ago, and the way it was sandwiched by the deaths of so many other characters -- and the formulaic way it all happened -- I was definitely fooled.

Ain't no one is gonna complain about the animation?

Like, shit just dropped so hard on the story line and Mappa literally fucked up the whole combat scene of this episode. Well, not as terrible as studio Deen take on seven deadly sins but things are really going down the hill compared to the first few episodes if my eyes aren't blind. Or is it just so bad that no one even wanted to mention about it in the first place?

The whole explanation about tao was pretty boring, I got the gist of it immediately but it just kept going. I would have preferred if it stayed more mysterious instead of this rather cliche shonen power system but I suppose the main characters need a way of learning it. That kinda sums up my feelings on the show as a whole, once the mystery is gone it's a much more standard shonen - a good one - but a pretty standard one. Still an alright episode though, the action is great as always.
how did you got the gist of it so quick just from the girls bubbling which 2 words which made no sense? I only understood it after the blind man explanation when he refered to the tao as waves.

It's good to know that the Tensen Hermits are not immortal at all. They can be beaten with the use of Tao.
Little Mei glowed up and blossomed into an adorable girl. Protect her at all costs.

And the scene with the two hermits doing the bochu jutsu seemed to be having a fun time. Quite erotic and sensual. Probably the best training to do with someone.

Ah so much more things make sense now. So the toa from the meridian is why there is some oddly strong people and why the tensen have a weak spot where they do. I already knew about the meridian since i have read into toaism in the past and i have read the tao te ching which is full of contradicting forces talked about so this dynamic isn't too hard for me to get. I wonder how the doshi are supposed to be different from the tensen if they too are able to regenerate. I assume Mei aged because she was weakened using her powers.

Gabimaru facing against yet another Asaemon executioner-criminal duo to gather intel, and the Tensen is easily the biggest problem of everyone involved that both Tamiya Gantatsusai and his Asaemon counterpart Fuchi haven't encounter yet. Mei though, grew from a young child to a young lady, though. Senta dissolves the names and all to be just different religious terms, in an island where deceased humans only created flowers and all, but the real intention is still to find the Elixir and escape.

All Gabimaru needs is the secret element to defeat the Tensen, and her Tao (as in THAT "Tao"ism), the Chinese meridian energy that flows through all things, is exactly how she did it. That is the only power that which exists that manifests people in different but same ways no matter the religion involved, and that is Shion's teaching to Nurugai, as well as the rest. Brothers Toma and Aza getting caight unawares by the doshi priest, the Tensen's right-hand men, and though they're there for reason to drive intruders out, though Aza does not push back and gets back at the priest while Toma kills the incomplete Soshin.

Lots of terminologies for plot points, but in essence, they're one and the same.

Interesting. So the reason why Gabimaru is so "unkillable" is because he has been using Tao without knowing, huh? And it seems Sagiri is on her way to master it given she can reach that perfect middle ground between Yin and Yang.

Pretty sure Chobe’s gonna be fine… cause I reckon he’s got some monster power now from eating the Soshin before.

I think their hopes rest on Shion cause he’s been using Tao all his life due to his blindness. He’ll be the person best to teach them how to use it
