Two straight episodes exploring the psyche of one of the main characters. In this case Canute having some kind of guilt about what he's done to gain power.

thorfinn and einar finally cleared the forest and are almost free men so quick, nice stuff.
i've already acknowledged canute's development before, i didn't even realize how fire how he looks now. a real king, indeed. the difference in atmosphere from canute's flashback and the present was crazy tho. looking forward to more of canute.

this episode did a great job portraying it's theme (just like other episodes) honestly for me Vinland saga s2 seemed somewhat better than s1 though s1 had it's own charm but I don't think there exists any competitors for VS s2 at least for me is now one of the classics this episode 10 for example portrayed the contradiction between growth of both canute and thorfinn in such a brilliant manner!! vinland saga really is getting just better and better each time! really excited for the next episode

though there's still the question remains of what after freedom of both our MCs thorfinn and einar

that's quite nice of the master to let them go just after sowing.

if the master is going to meet harald then he will inevitably meet canute as well. maybe thorifnn will come up somewhere now? he's the mc but he hasn't done much mc-ing till now lol. i really don't know where story will go from now. they are becoming free earlier than expected and now they don't even know what to do now. i think einar will choose to stay behind as retainer, he wants to be with arhenid afterall.

canute really went from princess to a real king ( in body and soul). didn't think he would become a schizo though. sad. it's interesting to see how we touvh upon the mental states of the characters in this series. most series' don't. we can see the mental struggle of these characters who look so tough and big. just shows that mental battle is stronger than physical battle and also winning a mental battle is more rewarding. just look at thorfinn now. he's come a long long way from getting excited going to war as a child to wanting to eradicate war and slavery. one direction i think this story can go in in my opinion is that somehow canute and thorfinn meet up and they end war and slavery together but seeing canute's character now, that seems unlikely. somewhere here thorkell should be coming as well. he's still not out of the picture. i wonder how thorkell would feel and react when he sees thorfinn now after all these years and finds out he became a slave and how he's given up violence for good now.

so much is yet to happen, so much yet to explore. excited to see what's in store for us now. it's nice that it's 2 cours.

On one hand, we have Canute who, under the "curse of the crown" is most likely going to bring about a lot of war. And on the other, we have Thorfinn, who already having lived through shit, now dreams of peace. My senses are tingling.

With that, 3 years go by and Thorfinn and Einar have cleared all of the forest, with only the stumps needed to be removed so have the ground can be fully ready for farming. The smile on both guy's faces, especially Thorfinn's, was very wholesome. =)

Not only are the two proud of their efforts, but so was Ketil. He told them that once they sow the seeds into the ground, they will have their freedom back. Both Einar and Thorfinn are unsure on what they want to do once they claim their freedom again, although Ketil offering the pair to be retainers under him was a surprise before he left to see King Harald.

King Canute was also on his way to see King Harald, his older brother, who has fallen critically ill. That is thanks to Canute poisoning him, which goes to show the contrast of him going down this dark path compared to Thorfinn emerging out of it and into the king light. The added part of Canute seeing King Sweyn's severed head talking to him was a solid representation of his inner thoughts.

It does make me worry for Ketil and his bratty son, who're on their way to see King Harald. It'll be interesting to see where the story will go next.

Canute and Thorfinn have evolved in opposite directions of each other, which is completely unexpected considering how they were when we first met both of them. I love it, I love everything about this. The fact Thorfinn has kinda turned into a more stereotypical hero who dreams of a world without war and slavery but instead of starting out like that he’s naturally evolved into that role and ideology is just fantastic, as well as Canute being a foil falling further into darkness and corruption. Absolutely phenomenal stuff I can’t wait for next week.

3 year timeskip but damn, it looks like Thorfinn and Einar began building into their future. I have no doubt the two are determined to make a better future for themselves.

More interestingly is the development of Canut and the man he has become. Seriously, time did its change not just for him but the royal kingdom too.

Yeah it’s actually ironic because now thorfinn is the man healing from his problems, and Canute is struggling with new a darkness inside him. To me it was crazy to see him now, and almost sad that he is just as bad as his father in a way.

True but his method is going to bring about a lot of war. Besides, I wouldn't rule out him getting overly ambitious and going on further conquests.

i m truly loving where this show is headed , i have read the manga and i m loving the adaptation
there are a few things in the manga that i want the makers to change in the anime so that we can have a completely good experience with this show
right now thorfinn's character arc is showing j curve in this show as he is completely transforming and adapting the mentality of his father's
but i really miss the old vinland action as well

Those 3 years of grueling farm work turned Thorfinn and Einar into units, love to see it.

And damn, Canute turned into a cold hearted SOB. I knew war had turned him cutthroat, understandable, but his own brother? Wow, his descent into evil truly is jarring 😮 his brief conversations with his dead father is nothing short of interesting as well. As he said, he hated and wished death upon his father once upon a time, but now, he's the only one Canute can talk to on a genuine level with.

This was another captivating episode, well done MAPPA and of course the author for the source material

Wow a three year time skip. I get the feeling Ketil is not going to come back from that trip... The parallel character development with Canute and Thorfinn is just incredible. Thorfinn was a violent, vengeance seeking warrior and is now swearing to never hurt anyone again. Canute was a peaceful, gentle prince and is now corrupted by power under the "curse" of being a king. I fear Thorfinn is going to be forced to fight again.

Those 3 years went by so fast lol. Good job, Thorfinn and Einar! The bois be looking jacked from all that lumberjack cutting.
Their master gave them a discount of freedom after they till the soil and wait for him to return. What an absolute win win situation.

King Canute looking very different. More manly even lol. It seems he got a "king's curse" as he sees king Sweyn decapitated head talking to him. Pestering Canute about poisoning his big bro in order to take over Denmark. It was quite an interesting perspective. Can't wait to see more of what King Canute has in plan.

Damn, my jaw dropped when Sweyn revealed the truth. The fact that Harald being suddenly ill pretty much indicated that...but damn. The revelation hit me hard.

While Thorfinn is setting himself on his new path to redemption and to become a true warrior, we're seeing Canute have an almost unbelievably radical change in his morals. He who was once surrounded by loved ones, and could see the difference between what's just and what's tyrannical, has now become the very thing he once set to change.

Great episode with Thorfinn and Einar being soon to be released finally after working so much but Canute's development has been one of the most interesting thing so far especially how much he changed since after his father comes his brother to die because of his actions for his plan

Before the reveal I figured out Canute's play like a lot of you did. The mangaka is adamant that we dislike Canute and has him poison the only other guy in his life that supported him and stood by him. In a world were everyone is trying to murder or enslave each other. That kind of decision takes serious storytelling balls.

I kinda figured Canute and Thorfinn were gonna be enemies even without the heel turn because Thorfinn wants slavery and war to end. Even if Canute still wants peace the way he will bring it about will involve war and death. Those two could never get along as far as I know.

Ketil has to die because happy endings don't exist in Vinland Saga. With or without a death flag our boy Thorfinn has more hell to go through before these 24 episodes finish out. I hope Thorfinn takes the Jesus Yamato approach at least and knocks people out Thors style. The biggest conflict this story will have moving forward is how a pacifist can survive in a world as brutal as this story has. Thors ran far away. Lets see what Thorfinn does next.
