It's a shame that Appare's going to be delayed after the third episode.. quite a shame.

Now what to say about this episode.. actually it was nice. Not taking this as a seriously historical work considering the creative liberties stacking up. The mechanic who was introduced this episode seems like a nice girl, and I wouldn't be surprised if Appare's work was motivational to her. She probably could race a fair bit.

Now that she's talked about the threat of bandits, I see the reason why the samurai guy is there. Appare knows his machines but he can't fight off bandits and perform maintenance on the car at the same time. It's good that Appare has a dependable partner.

(All of this will prepare me for SBR lol)

This episode started fleshing out the kind of tone that this show is going to have, and I really liked it!

The show description made a big point about how this takes place in the Meiji Era of Japan, a time where Japanese traditionalism was clashing with Western modernism, and this show is all about that contrast of tradition and change. Appare and Kosame make a good classic comedic pair of the oddball and the straight-man, this episode had some nice heady talks about possibility and challenge and change, and while it's not one of the best things I've seen, it's been consistently enjoyable through these first two episodes.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more once it's off its upcoming COVID hiatus.

Honestly, Appare is headed for character of the season; he's extremely well written.

We don't know what kind of people we truly are until the moment before our deaths.
As death comes to embrace you, you will realise what you are.
That's what death is, don't you think?

I'm liking everything of this series, except for Appare, I just don't like him at all.
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End
nope les falle con esa, lo siento pero todos tenemos nuestros límites.
Así de jodido es mi gusto en anime, ¡Y estoy pinche orgulloso de ello!

It is weird. On one hand, i want to like it. Samurai Wacky Racers sounds like a heaps of fun. But as of now.... Appare is just way too detatched from reality. He really rubs me the wrong way.

This would be fine if it was in a fantasy setting, but wanting to maintain the historical setting while making everything else anachronistic just ruins it for me. Gintama did it fine why does this show insist on it being late 19th century America with no language barrier? And Jing would have been arrested for public indecency wearing that, you couldn't even show a belly button on tv until the 1970's, though I guess everything else about the era is being ignored so why not....

Really wouldn't expect historical accuracy after this episode tbh.

Car models are newer, not to mention they seem to be mass-produced already.

The racism and sexism is weird. Never mind that native American kid; Xialian is Chinese and a woman, that's a double whammy for the time period.

And then there's closed-circuit auto racing, which seems to be older in this. Unless Xialian is middle school age or younger (lol), then it also suggests that cars have been way more sophisticated in the 19th century than IRL.

Pretty good episode, looking forward to more!

The girl is pretty cute!

Cars seems pretty advanced for 19th century standards, but heck I don't care, I want to see some racing alright! Can't wait to see more, after this whole Covid calms down and the show will continue it's broadcast after the 3rd episode..

well thanks, now you made me interested in watching Ranma, as if watching 25+ seasonals were not enough :v

anyway, i'm loving Appare so far, this guy is funny as hell "as long as you pay me, i don't mind not having to help with the store" HAHAHAHA

the chinese girl is looking interesting so far, would be fun if she was the driver of Appare's team car , but guess not, since she is just a support character ...

The episode was ok, they met Xialian and Appare connected his fascination for machines with cars and races. An entire race through the country sounds fascinating, I wish this anime could develop it as an unforgettable journey. What a strange kid the green haired, he looks like a native american, and Xialian as a chinese.

Panama Canal is mentioned, that means this is no earlier than 1914. There's still a little bit of Wild left in the West that far along, though. See Wild Bunch, or maybe The Shootist. Steam driven car might still be competitive against the internal combustion engine. Jay Leno has a few (Jay Leno's Garage) and Stanley was still making steamers through the early 20s.

It's a little weird seeing Kosame carrying around a sword after seeing in Rurouni Kenshin
but it is also historical fiction so :\ Anyway, it's sad that this show is getting delayed since it is good (music, art style, character designs, animation and characters are pretty solid too) but it's understandable and I look forward to when it returns. Overall solid work from P.A. Works and the director, they did an especially nice job with the setting. 7/10

Sad to hear that this series has got the Covid radar, but the show must go on.

Being in 19th century USA Los Angeles, Appare and Kosame have had their shares, but the last thought of being in an the Trans-America Race? That puts in line with Appare's thoughts against the infrastructure and the background setting that's quite advanced for its time.

Er the character design is strikingly similar, and IMO she's OK.

Appare and Jing are similar in their own ways, whilst their persistence is different, but the passion is there. With Appare's knowledgeable help, some more expertise is needed.

As for the overall setting, still not sold on it yet. Hoping that Episode 3 will deliver somewhat before the abrupt stoppage.

Looking to be one of the best anime of the Spring 2020 season thus far. Wish it were 24 episodes. There's no way the entire race to New York is gonna be over by episode 13, so I'm sensing a future season 2.

How could staff allow this bullshit? It's literally impossible for girl walk with bare navel during that time (considering it's late Meiji near end 1890s or beginning of 1900s). This would be scandalous in puritan burgerland.

Holy hell the attitudes are infuriating me! Honestly, not working and demanding a wage...entitled brat. Although, I am groaning at the fact that everyone can understand each other. A little conflict please! And while I do enjoy the apathetic MC trope, this is a bit much. I mean, the MC fully admitted that he doesn't care about his family, even his sister who actually seems to care about him. TBH I don't see me going passed ep 3 with how much I'm raging against the MC. Some of the secondary characters are alright but...no. Need to at least tolerate the MC to keep going. That's what makes and breaks a show for me at first.

Another great episode! Been loving this, didn't expect to enjoy this so soon!

They portrait how it was to live back at those days...

"Is it impossible for a woman to be a rider", holy hell! That was hard.

Keep it coming.

Bit bothered by no language barrier considering the sort of historical setting. Unique to see the different struggles people have from Xialin not being able to become a driver as a female, to Kosame struggling with some bad past, and the little native american kid being harassed (although he kind asked for it when he grabbed that one guy)...and than we got Appare who doesn't give a fuck about anything except his own interests.

Appare learning english makes sense since he's very smart but I find it amusing Kosame being able to understand english straight away. Interesting to see how skilled Kosame is but seems like it'll be a while before he can draw out his katana.

This episode was alright imo, but bro what? Why did Appare stand in the middle of the track like that. And then that fight immediately after, that felt kinda off to me. Not much really stuck out to me in this episode :/

Edit: I also kind of don't like how everyone just happens to know Japanese (or English?), just because... Reasons lol I mean we even heard Kosame say "Oh my god" in the first episode, in English. Idk it's kinda nitpicky but it does bother me just a little. I'm also not sure how to feel about Appare. I kind of don't like those red marks on his lips. Idk they just look weird to me
