Heh, noticed that Haruka fence thing too... really don't know how they could forget to arrange layers :D

Could be symbolism and not a mistake, since because of her past Akira created a fence around her and let no one in, but the kindness Haruka showed and got that limited edition cat for her, in the eyes of Akira somehow made her pass that fence. When she got in the fence, she also brought memories of joy and dreams of the past. At the end of episode and with blow of the wind, we can even see that she remembers the feeling of running again.

My favourite episode so far. I love dialogue-light storytelling. The ending of the episode with its sudden mood swing felt really impactful and mature. I hope there is gonna be more of that.

It felt like some bits needlessly dragged on tbh. I really liked Haruka though. Hope we'll see more of her in the remaining episodes.

It felt a bit boring to me since it was a really quiet episode, describing the library like an aquarium was really awesome that was my favorite part plus when the wind went through Akira's hair and the moon came out of the clouds.

I have a question to pose to everybody. What do you make of the comment tachibana makes after Mr. Kondo calls it a "sea of books" and she says "its more like an aquarium" ? I Can't pinpoint what exactly she means here.

Man I lowkey forgot this anime existed which is so sad cuz it was one of my favorites at the start of the season, I feel like I thought this was gonna be a romance but it seems like a daily-life show about Tachibana. Maybe if I rewatch it knowing it won't be romance I'll like it better but right now they need to do something to bring me back, i love the show but the story's going nowhere

I think it's supposed to be referring to the way she can watch Mr. Kondo. When you are looking at the sea you are interested in the water itself, the pretty waves etc, like how Kondo is interested in the books in the library. Whereas Tachibana is interested in Mr. Kondo in the library rather than the library itself, like how when you go to an Aquarium you look at the animals in the water and not the water itself
Ocean = Look at water = Kondo likes book
Aquarium = Look at fish = Tachibana watching Mr. Kondo

I think they neither forgot nor there's really any meaning to it. This happens and a lot, there's no layer problem they usually like to put the focus on characters rather than on objects.
Like glasses for example, you can always see the characters eyes when they are facing sideways, the glasses frame always disappear, the fence is just the same I think.

I wonder what Kando meant when he said the name "Chihiro" while looking at the book?

Hmm, is Haruka in love with Akira? That would be an interesting twist.

I also liked the parts with little dialogue. It felt very melancholy and the imagery did a good job of expressing the feelings of the characters and the tone of the episode.

Wonder how the authors made this episode interesting without ever speaking openly about the main topic represented by the love that Akira feels for Kondo. In doing so they managed to better characterize the characters and make us understand the ties that exist between them and headlights to also sense something new about Kondo. Good to see that the characters have not always had the same hairstyle over the years, a detail that is not always shown. Akira and her smile turned to Haruka, was so sweet and nice, I almost fell in love. The backgrounds of this anime are really beautiful, wow!

This episode was honestly excellent. Its main achievement in my opinion is being able to portray a bigger picture of Akira. The focus on her crush so far was great, don't get me wrong, but getting to know her emotional context in a much less romance-specific approach was not only fresh and welcome, it may help understand and relate to her romantic needs as well.

Visually this was even more impressive than usual. It kind of gave me the vibe that it was an episode with very little dialogue, or at least, long moments of silence. And the way the visual narration tells the story and state of mind of the characters was some excellent work. However this was my sole issue with the episode as well. The scene where Akira catches the keychain that Haruka throws at her... it was very silly. That visual effect was uncalled for, and aesthetically it just didn't fit. It is not a big problem of course, but it kind of makes evident that its aesthetic approach is not fully mastered and understood by the show itself. And that may be a slight disadvantage in comparison with some other series this season.

Wow, this episode was really excellent and hit all the right spots for me. First of all, the friendship between Haruka and Akira - clearly they both miss each other, perhaps Haruka a little more, and it definitely seems as though she got the her into running after all. The keychain and note was REALLY awesome on her part - not knowing how to reach out and finally taking the plunge takes a lot of courage, so kudos! The ending part was great too, especially seeing Kondou just read and all the little details, and as for the book ... well, I'm guessing it has something to do with his ex-wife? All I can say is, I felt as though this episode did a great job of conveying emotions without much dialogue. Awesome job :3

Another good episode!
Those landscape visuals are so stunning! just look at scene (07:02)
The friendship between Haruka & Akira won't be tarnished and that proves it in this episode!
lolz Akira couldn't find the secret keychain! but Haruka found one and gave it to Akira with a letter saying that they are still solid friends! how nice!
The moment with Tenchou and Akira inside the library was nice as well!
5/5.

by the way the full version of the ED Ref:rain was too awesome! same as the other tracks! if you guys wanna hear it just google it and download, here is the keyword: [180221] TVアニメ「恋は雨上がりのように」EDテーマ「Ref:rain」/Aimer [320K+BK]

I'm guessing Akira is much faster than anyone on the team, the would-be ace if she didn't get injured. Such a shame.

Haruka is a great friend, she remembered that Akira wanted that ugly kuro neko keychain and gave it to her.

I'm thinking Kondo-san is thinking of his ex-wife. Of course he still loves her. They just got divorced.

Wow, there were so many great shots in this episode, with this one being my favorite

Kid Akira's smile was great too. That capsule with the secret keychain and note from Haruka was really sweet :) I'm glad they're staying friends.

Akira trying so hard to get the special keychain just shows how childish she is haha. But I guess it worked! :P

The minimal dialogue for this episode was really well-done, and I'm really impressed with the team behind this show. I hope they keep it up!

The conflict with Haruka felt so real. And the fact that they had been friends since they were children really hits hard.

The whole scene with the gatcha was hilarious. Of course Akira thinks buying THAT one that these little grade schoolers sited as giving them good luck for their crush would click in her brain.

Not to mention the awkward tension and silence is pulled off extremely well here. And with Akira not being an annoying brat like more main protagonists in a love story, it works, and it makes the whole set up on a romance between them plausible because she's patient and not all that pushy. SHE CAN READ THE ATMOSPHERE WHAT A CONCEPT.

The Haruka conflict was really well made, and it felt so realistic. Not forced, not overlydramatic. It was just like real life. I'm glad they somehow made up again, Haruka really is a good friend, one worth having.

Also, Kondou is more clueless than I thought. I wonder if his behavior when he got the book has something to do with his ex wife.

I noticed in this episode how good the ost is, there were a few scenes where it was just music and scenery paired with Tachibana wondering about which really let it shine, it’s very nice. And I’m glad to see Tachibana reconnecting with her friend, that’s something I need to do with some friends myself, and although I’m not a reader I really liked what Kondou said about books. Speaking of Kondou, there’s something up with that book he had Tachibana borrow for him, the writer was definitely someone close to him, most likely an ex wife, I’m very interested in seeing where it goes from here.

And now that I’ve reached the halfway point of this show, I can say it’s a wonderful show so far. Absolutely beautiful anime and I’m loving the story so far paired with its SoL elements, really enjoying how unique Tachibana is and how wholesome Kondou is. While this is different in a lot of ways, it does remind me a bit of Koikimo but in reverse, which was another fantastic show imo. The HoneyWorks OP and the Aimer ED are both amazing too. This is definitely a show I wish I was back in Winter 2018 to watch weekly, very excited to continue it, I can see this potentially getting a 10/10 by the end for me.

It's adorable how she got so interested in the little girls superstition~
When it showed the shot of the clouds behind the school, far off in the distance, you could see a strike of lightning.  I just thought that was a cool shot.

I also liked the way this episode tackled Akira's friendship with tanned captain, and I'm guessing that Chihiro is probably the manager's ex-wife?

This episode was pretty frustrating. Akria is going to leave the school, but when she sees Haruka and the track team outside the front door, she hides. Okay, fine. She got injured and is not about that life anymore. Except we get a flashback to Akira and Haruka in middle school. Haruka was moving away and changing schools, but they decide to go to high school together. Well, we see a picture of them in track uniforms, so maybe that's when they met and started running together, and Akira is not about that life and doesn't want to be reminded of it. Except, we get a flashback from when they were even younger. Turns out they're childhood friends, so Haruka is right - they were friends before track, and they could/should still be friends after track. Haruka also hides at the bus station, and she didn't even go up to her at the book store, but she is slightly better if only because she approached Akira when she heard her killing the gacha machine. She even got Akira the special keychain and attached the one Akira just dumped on her unceremoniously to her bag. And while Akira is wearing the special keychain on her bag, let's be real - it's because she hopes it'll get her closer to her boss rather than as a gift from her "friend". Honestly, Haruka should just move on. Akira has no problem befriending her blonde coworker, or confessing to her boss, or walking some stranger across the street. Sitting next to her "best friend" on the bus, though, and she just stares out the fucking window. This is probably set up for the two of them reconnecting, but I can't say I'm invested in this relationship

glad the two had a brief moment of reconcilation.Too many friendships fizzle out afraid to confront each other during hardships.Iam guessing the book at the end was written by his former wife or carries some sort of nostalgia related to his marriage ! The final shot of wind blowing past her and the lazy bellowing of sounds coming from the city ,atmospheric brilliance alone is setting high standards .

There we go! Akira's horrible social skills actually being reflected in the story is a welcome development. Maybe I sound like I have a one note focus on that aspect but I think the story either works best when characters other than Akira and the Manager are basically not present or when there's some acknowledgement of how poorly Akira relates to everyone else.
