And they were reunited... finally. That part between Konatsu and Yakumo was very emotional, maybe the best episode of this season.

To end at peak of happiness rather than at bottom of despair.."

With two more episodes left I wonder what's more to tell. Cause this felt like an ending if you ask me.
But there will timeskip again, probably, to let their child grow a bit.

Then, everything comes to closure when Shouwa ends. The end of one era, the season of beginnings.

I just ended up smiling like a dumass for most of the episode ... but that ending tho :c

Also i liked the fact that the candle lighted up at the end of the OP instead of the usual.

By far, this was the best episode so far. To be honest, I thought this episode would be boring, but it actually gave us closure on the daughter's negative feelings for Yakumo. I liked that this rakugo story on the radio had a lot of imagery behind it and that cherry blossom tree symbolism leading to the ending. Now that is good writing, my friends. This show has a lot of foreshadowing, which I like.

A stark contrast to last episode, the emotions swirling inside me are equally as strong though!
It seems like I'm teary all the time watching these last few episodes.

Truly, a new era is dawning on rakugo here. :)

This show is a masterpiece. Truly.

This show makes me the happiest this season.
Yotaro is ever endearing when he is happy with Konatsu. Best couple of Winter 2017.
Konatsu and Yakumo finally made up. This is the first time in ages where Yakumo is geniually happy and that makes me happy..
Shin's role in the story seems to be being Yakumo's reason to continue. Glad to see he has the making of a great preformer.
Konatsu might finally do rakugo professionally. Her being under Yakumo's wing and Yotaro wanting new women works, this is her time.

This episode was just swell ... wait he died now of all times. That was a nice way to go but he needs to stay a little longer. He never named the child yet. The theatre is still burnt down as well. You can't just blind us with happiness and expect us to forget that show. Rakugo is still filled with saddness.

So, I'm confused, and I must've missed something....... I thought Konatsu and Yota already had a kid, the one that she was taking care of early on in the season..... Can anyone shed some light on that?

Yes, Konatsu had that kid with the mafia boss and Yota voluntary become his stepdad. They've been together as"let's play family" all this time but it seems that behind the scenes and years, they've grown to actually love each other, got busy, and now produced a baby of their own. It's going to be a rakugo super baby.

But not everything can be happiness because, if you remember correctly, this is Rakugo Shinjuu. Since when there is completely happiness in this anime? Exactly. And now it seems that the moment in which Yakumo embraced life through his family --in a higher place than rakugo itself since he allowed Konatsu to be his apprentice, and not anymore as a burden that keeps him anchored on earth by means of his responsibility towards them--, was the moment he was welcomed by his beloved Sukeroku in a place beyond this realm.

And this is how this anime broke my heart. Again.

literally my thoughts with that part and i was like wait something really bad is going to happen now isn't it, this is too happy. honestly seeing sukeroku always makes me bawl for 15 minutes but this time, i knew that was his spirit for real and really did not want to see him so soon. Not yet!!!!!! it's just so much release, forgiveness, and relief for yakumo, i'm so happy he will get to leave like this, he deserves it but i'm just really sad :(

I guess this episode confirmed that Shin took the knife in place of Kiku. And this episode confirms that Kiku was willing to go through a double-suicide with Miyokichi. He has no reason to lie to Konatsu now, and I am very happy that they both had a heart-to-heart.

Kiku better not die yet! He still needs to teach Konatsu, and even Yota was trying to get the writer guy to compose stories to be told by women!

Yeah but Konatsu just know the first story. So it's kinda of weird to me, I don't like how they wrote that part of the story. Bon was bringing Shin and Konatsu back with him, so he certainly had not planned to die that day, he didn't even choose Miyokichi over Rakugo years before. In the first story, Bon doesn't look decided to jump with her either, when she pushed him he told her "wait" and the rest looks like an accident. In the second story we don't know what happened, was that knife really for Bon? Seems like a violent way to kill him. I don't know, that whole story with Miyokichi didn't work for me.

Well, now that the new episode is out, I think Shin just implied that Miyokichi failed her suicide by tripping and falling with the knife plunged at him. It was pretty bad to even have Shin and Bon witness that suicide. Still, I think that an attempted double suicide between the two would be fitting rather than a failed suicide attempt, especially since it is in the title of the anime.

I think it was maybe a mix of the first death scene and the second, I don't know, I should watch it again. I was under the impression that she was maybe holding the knife telling him not to get close to her and/or that she would kill herself but also previously wanted to commit double suicide with Bon. It was not the first time she was doing it, so I don't know if she was really serious about it.
The title of the anime may also refers to her and Shin.
Or Bon and rakugo.

It's the part of the anime that is unclear to me. Really, I wonder if he really meant that he wanted to die with her and another took his place or if it's not her that took his place (or maybe he just wanted to die with rakugo but Shin took his place). Either way, they didn't convince me with the death plot. Although those scenes looked like rakugo stories...

If I were to describe this episode with a thousand words, I would fail miserably. So, I will just use one word for it. "Beautiful".

The news of Konatsu conceiving Yotaru's child was already too much. But then Kikuhiko finally seem to have finding the reason to find peace left me speechless. The moment when Konatsu cried on his chest was so beautiful I paused and cried like a five year old. T_T

There's no competition. Best anime of the season, and will probably take some beating this calendar year. With this episode it has truly become a masterpiece.

The theater owner was all like, "Ya'll get out of my burnt down theater and take your drama elsewhere!" LOL

I wasn't expecting Yotarou and Konatsu to be intimate for some reason. I thought their marriage was just on paper but I guess they actually had intimate moments, who would've thought. Now they're expecting a baby together. I like how Yotarou started to cry when he found out he's going to have his first biological baby. Yotarou is like Konatsu's loud little brother so it's hard to see him as her husband lol Maybe their relationship is more fleshed out in the manga than it is in the Anime.

So I'm guessing Yakumo really died :(

I wasn't even sure that Konatsu and Yotarou had had sex yet, based on how she treated him up until the past few episodes. Didn't seem like that kind of relationship.

"I'm pregnant. It's yours." This brings up an awkward question: does Yotaro still call Konatsu "Sis" while they're banging?

I was very happy to see Konatsu finally forgive/thank Kikuhiko for taking care of her after all these years. He even accepted her as his apprentice! Everything was going great...until the very end that is.

"Welcome to the Land of the Dead." Ugh. I never thought I'd say this, but fuck off, Sukeroku! Kikuhiko can't die right now!

Cafe Saheiji, nice reference.
Garden scene is amazing, calm, beautiful yet so much happening. Kiku & Konatsu finally accept each other, kid & Yota in rakugo sync, 'Nozarashi' showing the huge contrast of Yakumo's immersive creepy version vs Yota's funny version, scene of the burned theatre clean up, and story symbolism of fish & bones.
I like Sukeroku a lot... but didn't want him to appear right there. Almost feels like the fisherman is the shinigami/Sukeroku, fishing up bones of Yakumo.

What a heartwarming episode. Such a heartfelt scene with Konatsu and Yakumo opening up to each other. I don't think we've ever seen Yakumo so truly happy before. And we even have a baby on the way :)

If Yakumo really passed on this time, I'm glad that he was genuinely happy when he left.

Finally we get a heartwarming episode! after that bittersweet atmosphere in every episode I was starting to feel depressed. I loved when Konatsu gave Yota the big news and that scene where she was talking with Yakumo, so beautiful.

But I guess the happy moments don't last that much... instead of watching the next episode I've been staring a the screen for 10 minutes, I don't think I was prepared to let Yakumo go.

I have a few questions:
-What did Yakumo mean when he said:'Have you made up your mind?' to Konatsu???
-What did Konatsu mean when she said:'I am a slave to my blood.' ?
-Did Konatsu remember that she caused her parents' deaths at that time? Or she knew it all the time? All she still don't remember the fact even after Yakumo died?

So Konatsu and Yakumo finally made up. Their scenes were handled incredibly well, I felt the tears welling up. I do think Yakumo really died this time. Third time's the charm, right? (first time him collapsing during the family performance, second time his meeting with the shinigami)

So they don't know that Yakumo ultimately caused the fire. That's for the better, I'd say. Even if they may have their doubts, I think it's true that because he's done so much for rakugo, something like this is just paying the bill in exchange for forgiveness. Yotaro finally got himself a child! I had the stupidest grin on my face when she was talking about sweets. I'm so happy for him. I enjoyed seeing him inquire for her sake on women's rakugo stories. Konatsu and Yakumo reconcile was really heartwarming, as was Shinnosuke coming out of nowhere reciting the story, throwing cherry blossoms. I'm proud of Konatsu for becoming Yakumo's second apprentice. The fuck was that ending though? That certainly wiped the smile off my face. I NEED ANSWERS.

And I really loved the way closure was brought to the bit of bad blood between Konatsu and Yakumo that still lingered in the air. Simply beautiful.

But that ending, they didn't really do this?

Yet again Yakumo confronts death, but at least this time around he truly is gone. I found the episode to be excellent with no real issues this time and one of my favorite episodes of the mixed bag season, mainly due to the conversation Konatsu and Yakumo had with each other before he passed on to meet Sukeroku in what seems like purgatory. Such a heartwarming conversation where Konatsu admitted to being happy that Yakumo took care of her instead of abandoning her, and gave her a life where she was able to enjoy hearing other's rakugo, being married with having a kid (and being pregnant with another) with her husband who loves her to death while she always had a roof over her head and a father figure who took care of her despite all the times she's hated him for the past. Great characterization and closure throughout for both of them, and him recognizing Konatsu as his second apprentice was the icing on the cake, even if it wasn't for too long before he was 'taken away' and touching moments all around.

This ep reminded me of how beautiful their unconventional family is. It doesn't require blood ties to create that bond. Man the end really has me on edge. Does he really end up dying before Konatsu becomes a proper apprentice? And will there be a continuation of the potential introduction of women into rakugo?

I'm so happy that Yotarou and Konatsu have a kid of their own on the way ^^ To be honest, all this time I thought their relationship was more like just that Shinnosuke needed a father not necessarily that they would become a real husband and wife but I'm so glad to know I was wrong. Their relationship is indeed cute ^^

This was such an emotional episode. I can't believe the day has finally come when Konatsu expresses her gratitude to Yakumo for raising her and not abandoning her. I really love how Yakumo has become her adoptive father. Despite their rough relationship, there truly is love between them.

Konatsu was really cute this episode. So many smiles. I'm glad she's so happy, and she really truly enjoys Yotarou's rakugo. Yakumo was all smiles too this episode, despite his physical condition. And he's finally agreed to take Konatsu as an apprentice! Konatsu was so cute in that scene.

But no, did he really pass away? ;-; Just as Konatsu was about to become his apprentince, and everything seemed alright in his life except his physical condition? ;-;
