Yet another sad back story for Kyo. It's just too much for a coincidence, the author at this point is literally begging everyone to pity Kyo. Giving a sad back story to everyone is all that the author knows to do, she never explained the curse well and then it starts to break just because! Fruits Basket tries way too hard to make the viewers feel sad for the characters, that's cheap drama.

Actually, all the pieces of Kyo's story were laid out before and in this episode they were just put together. Episode 1x10 showed us a brief moment of the accident and as I was re-watching episode 2x09, they showed us Kyoko saying "I won't forgive you" in a pool of blood. A more detailed explanation of the curse will be given most likely in episode 11.

Ayame, Hiro and Ritsu don't have a sad backstory. Other than Machi no one else in the school (I am talking about the characters who actually appeared more than once) has a sad backstory.

Everything came nicely together this episode.

And Kyou running away again is foreshadowing another accident; more than just Akito with a knife.

Yuuma Uchida GOAT, you could hear his voice shaking and breaking at times. He conveyed Kyo's emotions perfectly wow.

Kyo's past is painful no matter how many times I read it, added with the VAs, OST and direction it feels even more devastating. Goddamn

Low-key some next level kino.

Kyou's backstory is unbelievable well made and I love how it is executed here.

My only **MINOR** problem is how Tohru's mom changed places in her death. And how Yuki conveniently woke up in time.

All in all, goated stuff.

[quote=Kawai__Imouto message=63265159]Yuki being the one to chase Kyo was a really nice thing.....So their friendship wasn't really abondoned huh ? I see 😌

FINALLY i saw a comment about yuki chasing kyo. That made me cry my eyes out the most. Yuki is GOAT in this season, really. He really matured thanks to tohru and the others around him.

I was wondering why Kyo blamed himself and now I understand, I would feel extremely guilty after something like that. He could have saved her but in exchange, he would transform into a cat so he chose not to. Damn.

ALSO THAT FUCKING CLIFFHANGER!

The mangaka must like pulling stuff out of ass to make it convenient to emotionally tug on the readers' heartstrings.

Honestly, I am so disappointed by the writing.

*snore* Another damn filler episode! *snore*

Only thing that happened was a psycho with a knife showing up in the last 10 seconds of the episode.

You can completely skip this episode and you won't miss anything. This episode was the epitome of filler.

It's weird to me that they showed Kureno getting stabbed and bleeding out at the end of last episode, and then just never went back to that at all this week.

Presumably he's dead. I'm guessing next week Akito is going to try to shank Torhu, but then he stops (either because Torhu gives him some cliche breaking speech, or the other family members arrive and restrain him) and then he's going to find out Kureno is dead and it's going to hit him and he's going to break down and cry or some other crap. Inb4 crappy fakeout death.

Kyo really is a coward. He ran away so much during this episode. I can understand holding a grudge for a couple weeks or years but that seemed like such a small thing to hold a grudge for.

Akito is really unhinged. Someone should have called the cops on her a long time ago.

Kyo isn’t holding a grudge he’s holding on to guilt and self hatred. Are you even watching the show?

Akito showing up at one of the worst timing dammit. Truly tragic reveal there. Can't fault Kyo as there were multiple factors at play that could've prevented Kyoko's death like her not noticing the panic, not looking both ways before crossing, nobody else trying to save her etc. At the end of the day its all the drivers fault for killing her but we'll never find out his identity...

Right? S1 E1 has Kyo starting to say, "What's *she* doing here?", but he catches himself and turns it into, "What's *a girl* doing here?", because what he was originally going to say indicated that he already knew who Tohru was.

Then S1 E10 has Kyo suffering a PTSD attack, where we see brief flashes of Kyoko's death. He was triggered because Shigure's prompting about Yuki, friendship, and how he has to make Yuki the bad guy, were all similar to what Kyoko told him as a child. He always was having a nightmare at the start of the episode, likely one similar (though not exactly the same) to the one we see in Season 3.

Seriously I tried to seek some back up here but everyone is just saying how "perfect" it is, but guys .. This scene with Kyo is just the worst I've ever seen, like Kyoko is going to get hit and he just raise his hand ? Can't he i don't know ... hum ... YELL ?? Like a normal person ?? Or just pull her shoulder or something, we know they turn into animals when they're close like hugging but that's it, I found that so dumb ..

That confession really hit me. Tohru finally confessed her love! But it was not a happy ending. 😔
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

So that's how Kyo knew Kyoko!! I don't think she said that she wouldn't forgive him though...

I love Tohru's love for Kyo, but I can understand why he ran away from her, he doesn't want her to be hurt in the future and he is still hurting from Kyoko's death..

OMG, AKITO AND TOHRU, WITH KYO AND YUKI GONE!! I think Shigure will appear and get between the two, and that Akito will feel bad for stabbing him or something, I HOPE TOHRU IS OK!!!

Wow. What an ending of an episode.

Firstly, Kyoto's death. That wasn't Kyou's fault. It was an accident. And it's so sad that Kyou's been carrying that this whole time.

It was so nice to see that motherly figure that Kyoto was to him in the short time they had known each other.

And finally, Kyou and Tohru confessed their love for each other! But Kyou obviously felt like he wasn't deserving of it, which was why he ran away.

And I really hope Akito doesn't murder Tohru. I don't think she will, because they can't kill of the main, leading character!

Yuki helping Tohru find her way home gave him the strength to carry on but hurt Kyo's feelings. I can understand why he feels guilty but neither Kyoko nor his mom's deaths are his fault. He blamed Yuki so he could keep on living through his overwhelming guilt. Tohru finally admitted that she loved Kyo but he's running again.

And now here goes Akito with the psychotic shenanigans. o.o

This has been the peak for Fruits Basket so far. All of the narrative has been building up to this, back as to Episode 14 of Season 1, with scenes hinting to this reveal.
This has been one of the best episodes I have watched in anime. Peak fiction.

We finally got the story behing Kyoko and Kyo, and, in a way, how Kyoko was the mother that Kyo never had, that made him feel normal, even though they were complete stangers. It's sad how eveything went down for their relationship, due to Kyo wanting to help Kyoko, but not being able to due to Yuki. Incredible how the same event, was so important for both characters, but for completely different reasons. While in Yuki's version, this gave him a bit of hope, that for once, someone needed his help, and he was important for someone's life, in Kyo's version this was yet another instance for him not being able to be helpful (in his eyes) to other people, and that being taken away by the Rat of the Zodiac, that has always had a "perfect life".
When Kyo was able to finally reencounter Kyoko, it was only moments before her death, and he wasn't to talk to her. She was going to get hit by a car, and Kyo had the opportunity to grab her and push her to save her, but that would lead to him being exposed in public as a Zodiac Member, which would compromise the whole clan. And because of that, he hesitated on saving Kyoko. And that lead to her death. Ever since then Kyo has been feeling guilty for her death, many times portrayed as he has her blood in his hands, but in reality, he was only being human. In a situation like that, most people would just freeze. There's no certainty that he could have save her, that's only his perception. Unfortunately, Kyo just took all the blame to himself, and isolated himself from the world, and to move on, used Yuki as his source of hatred to move on.

He told all of this to Tohru, not only because she has the right to know, but also as a reason for her to stop loving him, because in Kyo's eyes, he's not worth of her love, since he only brings pain to people. The way Kyo sees things this way is so heartbreaking. What they have done to him all of this life made him just menosprize himself so much, he actually regrets meeting Tohru, because in all of this hapiness she brought to him, he though that he didn't brought any hapinnes to her, that he doesn't think he's worth of happiness, and that there are actually people that love him. And that's exactly what Tohru showed him, she loves him either way, and there won't be any excuses he can make to make her stop loving him. His words to Tohru "I'm disappointed in You" were so harsh for her, but also for himself, the way he sees himself is so heartbreaking, to the point he thinks it's worth of disappointment the person that loves him...

And here we have a crazy Akito, pointing a knife to Tohru, who's completely alone. DON'T STAB ANYONE ELSE AKITO, PLEASE. I feel like the great showdown is coming, between Tohru and Akito, and I think we might see a new version of Tohru, because remember that Akito is actually the only character in the series that Tohru actually kind of dislikes, since she was so mean to the Zodiac Members, but things might have changed now that Tohru knows the truth.

AHHHH, I'm going to need to watch the next episode right away! This episode has been one of the greatest episodes in Anime ever. Thank you so much for this Fruits Basket!

I hate to sound insensitive, but Tohru's mom has very low awareness...

Though like Tohru said, I doubt her mom actually said that. It seems like a manifestation of Kyo's guilt.

Yeah! There's no way Tohru's mother ever said that. When you looked at her, even when it's not that focused, she looked as if she couldn't speak. Probably she was already dead or knocked down.

Still, the fact that Tohru was willing to forgive Kyo shows how much she loves him.

Akito going mental again! I bet she blames everything on Tohru due to her Zodiacs slowly cutting ties with her. Why can't anyone put her in the asylum?! She needs a straight jacket!

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!
