So, Gilberts brother resents Violet for the fact that he saved her... Still he refuses to recognize the fact that she has grown.

Quite a nice scenic episode via the plane scenes. Violet is really quite set upon not killing anyone.

And she saves Gilberts brother... Not sure if that'll change his views upon her or not.. Guess we will have to wait and see...

The story and what is essentially Violet's life is coming full circle. Pacing was a little wierd, especially with that ending.

Melodrama/10.

I really dislike how they spell everything out, really not a hint of subtlety in the entire anime.

Definitely one of the most interesting episodes of the series, Violet meeting Dietfried was the highlight of it. It's a bit ironic that an anime about dolls and writing letters gives its best when it doesn't focus on... dolls and writing letters.

Pretty strange that barely any of those soldiers tried to shoot Violet when they had that huge range on her. LN guy are saying they left out some back story with Dietfried and Violet meeting on some island. I feel like if they cut one of the more "filler" episodes and added more backstory (including stuff like the Violet barracks thing I've heard of) this story focused stuff would have more impact. I still like the direction it's going, but I feel like it could have used another episode to flesh it out a bit more.

LN/VN/Manga readers have been like this since the beginning of time, unfortunately.
I'm expecting the upcoming Steins;Gate 0 adaptation to be spoiled for me from the first episode.

Anyway, this episode was intense. Decent penultimate episode. I'm glad they didn't go for another waterworks episode.

I don't know about the LN storyline, but after Violet became a wonderful human being, the authors decided to throw her in the war again. I really dislike the episodes that circle around the war backstory and present conflict. Yes, it actually feels forced and I think Chuck Norris style Violet is boring.

Warmongers are here to kill the Minister and capture the train.

Action is now underway, but this brooch thing was stupid, I know that it is important to Violet, but freaking take care of your enemies before worrying about it! she let them hit her for that....and that not killing thinking was not a smart in this situation.....and why did soldiers just run towards her...they had a guns?

OK episode I think

Fairly thrilling.

I feel VE is hampered a lot by Dietfried, in that he is an important character in essence in the main storyline but is also grossly underdeveloped/flat, at least so far shown in the anime. Just like Sangatsu bullying arc was hampered by the antagonist(s) being, well, flat.

I guess it's about time to have some actual plot... I'd say I enjoyed the episodic formula a lot though, current events, even if filled with action, aren't that interesting to watch imo.

Still, pretty good ep though, nice to see Violet fighting for herself, but without actually killing people off ;_;

Nice breather from all the intense FEELS. She attac, but she also protec.

Dietfried is quite resentful of Violet, and understandably so. Perhaps if he got to know Violet more and how much she has grown and developed since the days of war, he wouldn't be so hostile and understand that his brother would have no regrets.

She's come a long way from not feeling the need to kill even with her ability. Proud of her.

I feel like this plot was a little tacked on here. Diethard at least is showing his true character, he wasn't unaffected by Gilbert's death and saw Violet as a tool because of his own power.

The intensity of these battle scenes. Gosh KyoAni. When will you fulfill my dreams and do an action.

Hmm, didn't liked this episode much. I liked Violet's will to not killing anyone but by being so reckless she would get herself killed almost instantly. Also, the plot with brother of her major is going nowhere.

Why Violet wasn't using any weapons to disarm them, they are enemy threatening to bring down their peace and everything she worked so hard towards ffs! And why the hell isn't army using recon planes too? They have airplanes and don't even use fighters. Why enemy doesn't shoot when it's the most logical thing to do? Why they even try to negotiate with the most dangerous human weapon? Only because she acts as woman now? It doesn't make any sense.

She goes from one extreme to other. Not really good developement. They way they did this they portrayed her as unusually dumb which she isn't if she was able to plan things pretty carefully. Well, only one ep, so it doesn't matter anymore. To the bridge then.

First half tourism by plane.
DietFries not very bright bunching soldiers in one car instead of spreading out on constant patrol, but then they had the classic train invasion & car separation.
Lots of battles make no sense not using guns... but choreography still intense cool.

While it's cool, that we got some nice action in this episode, I really don't know how to feel about it.

The captain is a massive asshole. He blaims her for his brother's death? How does that make any sense?

I don't like how Violet had to be saved towards the end by the captain. While she doesn't want to kill, that doesn't mean she'd be any less great of a fighter. Why was she overpowered rather easily? I wonder how they will wrap things up in the final episode.

I loved the first scene on the plane. Made a good vibe to begin with.

The general is a complete asshole. Period. Why would he blame his brothers death to Violet? Jesus. Should he even be Major. It comes with the job, no one knows when one might die.

Violet shouldn't have lost those fights in my opinion. Though she made a "promise" not to kill, she went easily against them. I really thought the brigadier fell off that roof, which he deserves too, but he somehow climbs back up. And did he really have to raise up Violet's brooch and such? Its too cliché. Violet blocked that shot with ease. Why did it explode? Was it an RPG? I doubt as that would've destroyed the train.

I'm heading to my final episode. Let's see.

how did infiltration never came to mind to these people. so violet has become batman and has no kill policy. I gatta give it to her I would've killed that blonde prick. I liked the fight scenes and everything its just always funny that when the enemies have guns they never shoot them. Instead they ran to her knowing full well she would beat all of them up. it was hilarious how majors brother just straight up murdered everyone after.

This episode didn't impact me as much as the previous ones did. It's so obvious that the director is trying to play 'safe' here. If they really wanted to keep Gilbert dead they should have just confirmed it rather than being so vague throughout the entire show. But yet they replaced the scene with Dietfried instant of Gil from what I can gather from the LN spoilers.

Not to mention the fight scene where they could have easily shot Violet at that range but instant rushed to her closing the distance they had. Violet being such a pacifist doesn't help much either. In a battle field it's kill or be killed. If they were successful in killing her there is no doubt they would have attacked the people inside.

I am a tad bit dissappointed in this episode but still enjoyed it nevertheless.

Ok, I really like Violet Evergarden. In my opinion its artistic and emotional masterpiece. And I like we got some action I really like this pseudo world war settings. And I am sitting and enjoying this through and through. But I can't help this episode... has flaws...

How the hell they got so many guys in armed and in enemy uniforms at 24/7 heavily guarded train? And all the soldiers was in the back, really? No guards around ambassador in case of assassination attempt? And whole time they stayed on the roof, ok it's old and slow train, and maybe train tunnel was really height build so they could stand whole time. But they were quietly speaking from separate wagons to each other? Any idea how much noise is around moving train?

And I really like this show. I like how they transform story to be more emotional and peacefull... but damn, seriously? Violet is killing machine which after all this time brutaly murder enemies with axe and sleeps with pistol under pillow. What kind of piecy hippie is this show version?

Pretty bad. I don't give 2 fucks about the war because the anime didn't give me a reason to. Jarring tonal shift from last episode. Now Violet is the CW Arrow now? Ridiculous. Now, there's only one episode left. If the next episode isn't better than this one, I'm giving this a 6.5.

This episode is not a sad one by any means, but I love Violet being a badass in this episode! I hate how everyone treats her as being unable to defend herself, and I like it when Violet acts that she's still indeed an elite soldier in front of others such as her co-workers. I was quite upset hearing her no want to kill anymore, but after she understood what she's done, it can't be helped... If she doesn't hold back, she would've used that pistol and put a bullet in those enemy soldiers, throw some off the train and shove the whole pistol down the general's throat in a matter of seconds.

I personally like it when Violet defended Diethard from that grenade launcher attack, it's as if her actions are so that she could be redeemed in Diethard's eyes. He's being an asshole towards Violet, but he lost his brother so, can't blame him completely.

Please don't let somebody die again, I've always felt like the captain is either having a secret crush of Violet or he's just devastated by his brother's death, his brother must have meant so much to him, that's probably why he's always despised Violet, even more so when the war semi-ended. I've actually come to like the captain a bit, I hope he doesn't end up dying again, I trust that Violet managed to successfully deviate that projectile away.

Gilbert's brother is so one dimensional it's pretty obnoxious.
The whole civil war thing really does nothing for me as it wasn't fleshed out enough to begin with. The world building took a serious back seat in this series and it really shows. The motivations for the rebels are pretty paper thin as well.

Last few episodes were great with the feels, but it's telling that the few times in this series that I gave a damn it was all for the one-off characters, and no one else.

Okay... another episode I don't feel strongly about. I'm gonna get on with the positives first as always. Violet not wanting to kill anymore is a good development. All the things she learned from her clients are coming in full circle. She has gone from an emotionless war machine to someone who actually values life. Her growth is also evident in how she stands up to Dietfried's harsh remarks about her being a tool. She has realized her self-worth. She knows it in herself that she's not a lifeless combat doll.

With all that said, Dietfried is such an insufferable character istg. For someone considered to be a major character in the plot, he's seriously underdeveloped. Ever since episode 5, I've been wanting an explanation for his extreme hatred for Violet but it turns out he blames her for Gilbert's death after all? This is not clicking AT ALL. He has always shown contempt for Violet even before the major died. Now he tries to act like he's some caring big brother but all we got about him and Gilbert's relationship was glimpses of him being a shady cunt. There are even times when I think he actually disliked Gilbert. At this point, he's just a major asshole.

I've said it before that I won't comment much on KyoAni's abilities to portray war or fighting scenes because it's not their strong point. They've always been known by their slice-of-life/comedy shows but I think this must be said. Not only did they portray the Ctrigal soldiers in the last episode as highly incompetent but they've also managed to do so with the enemy soldiers in this episode. Why the hell does not a single soldier or even their leader ever thought of shooting down Violet. The setting didn't allow much for evading bullets and they've seen her combat abilities in play yet not a single soul pulled the trigger and instead attacked her in melee combat. There was one soldier who tried to shoot her but it was way too late.

Now we're down to the final episode. All I want is a little background from Dietfried and Violet's past and a proper ending with the conflict resolved.
