That's really thrilling!! I'm very curious what kind of impression a person who knows the real thing will have!

Although he said that crazy guy would never go into an opposing factions place causing a ruckus like that that can start a war.

to be fair, it's not precedent but it isn't abnormal either. we have a term for people like this, their called Crash Dummies. their "crashed out" behavior makes them hard to fuck with but as long as they desire money their easy to control and benefit the organization. essentially, you send them on the missions that no other person would want to handle, their expendable.

and isn't that what happened in this episode? his mission was to retrieve their stolen shit from another organization? that's pretty realistic then. if you were to go to another gangs territory accusing them of taking your shit, it wouldn't end well. perfect mission for a Crash.

Yeah, its understandable. He just said that didn't happen much back in the day unless the person is a complete idiot and wants to start a war between all the families. Then again this is an anime, so anything goes really whether its realistic or not.

I was very impressed with the first episode. I didn't expect much, since I thought it might be a little crazy like Baccano! I loved the atmosphere and the background details. I think Angelo's dollar bills were the wrong size for the 1920s, but lol this is a Japanese anime so I doubt they would think about that.

Quite a shocking backstory for the MC. He's got revenge on his mind, so I doubt this will end well, but I'm intrigued by the prospect of watching it all go down.

Could a mafia genius have finally entered the anime industry? That was some straight up Godfather right there, excellent atmosphere and the historical details lent to the immersion. Lots of questions already fizzling around in my mind but I'm definitely sold on this one.

Pretty good so far, but I gotta agree with the guy that said it could end up being a simple revenge plot with little main character development. If it doesn't go that way though then it could be a solid show.

I had no expectations and it was awesome. The mood is really dark and it's focused of the revenge. The MC has a sad past, but he learned a lot of things during these years. I'm looking forward to watch the next episode

Brilliant first episode, felt like movie quality. Such an immersive setting, looking forward to see where this goes. We didn't get to see the OP from Ling Tosite Sigure, and ELiSA's ED was a bit disappointing because of the limited 'la la' lyrics. Certainly fits the mood though.

Excited for this ! I feel like Angelo is going to be a real badass.
The people dying at the beginning was really sad, especially the mom and her child holding each other...I wanted to believe the child actually survived, but that seems too good to be true.

Can't wait to see what will happen ! I really didn't expect the ending though, probably because I didn't pay attention, but to think it was actually Nero !
Feel like they will actually become good friends, despite everything.

Love the settings! I haven't heard or read about the original story before so I wonder if it's actually based on a real story?

Well, I have high expectations from this series, hopefully it will be a hit for this season, looking forward for the next episode!

A strong first episode, IMO. Resembles a lot of American mafia-type TV shows.

It didn't really give me Baccano vibes, though. What made Baccano so great was the balance of comedy and drama. This is just straight-up drama. Not a bad thing, though. Just don't expect it to be as good as Baccano.

I think we should be concerned on the future of this series, though. The director has had zero experience directing a show like this (he's only worked on romcoms and the like.) Plus, the scriptwriter/series composer worked on both Joker Game and ERASED, which started good, but then nosedrived towards the middle and end of each series. But who know. It could go against all odds and be pretty decent. Lets just say the moment it goes south, I'm out.

Definitely the best first episode I've seen so far this season, they did a great job setting up the story and introducing the characters + the cinematography was pretty damn nice

This is probably going to end up being one of my favorite shows this season

RIP our watching Baccano.

It was okay overall. A lot of generic and cliche'd moments, so that was unfortunate.

Fango is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring, he made me want to fall asleep. MC is a Sasuke-esque character, and I can keep on piling the things I didn't like, but whatever.

I'll still keep watching though, because it wasn't bad.

Oh and yes.

91 Days , alongside Thunderbolt Fantasy, are the two shows that have easily the best first episodes this season.

The show as a whole gives off a kind of painterly vibe to it - the backgrounds remind me of a painting or a old story book.

Its nowhere near the level of Baccano as far as period works go, but so far this seems to have a lot of potential. First of all because this is very low on anime tropes so far. This might as well be an actual mafia movie and not anime.

While story wise it has usual Mafia flick tropes(revenge, dead family, antiheroes, etc), the characters don't stay edgy all the time and the show and narrative allow the setting and characters to smile and be lively once in a while.

Really promising start.
Now let's hope this does not end up like Jokers Game.

5/5

I know almost nothing about the kind of setting 91 Days takes place in, so this will give me a rather nice idea. I'm impressed by the rustic color schemes, and especially those still-shots that were shown in the middle of the episode. The ending theme was rather nice and soothing to listen to. Seeing as who our MC is, I'm a little doubtful as to how they're going to develop him according to the power struggle between the mafia.

Good opener. Gut wrenching with the family death scene, RIP little sister.

Otherwise, I'm lovin' the Prohibition-era mafia setting and premise. Reminds me a bit of Baccano in the good way. Not too many shows like this.

alongside Thunderbolt Fantasy

Is OK that you like it but comparing Taiwanese puppet show (with Japanese dub) to anime title is like comparing apples to oranges.
Not to mention how strange is Thunderbolt Fantasy in relationship with the 91 Days totally traditional mafia stuff.

So you liked this apple and this orange but I don't get why you mention it here.

he somehow expects an english dub even before the japanese premiere lol (it would be a lot more realistic to ask for a simuldub at this point)

I mean they did a dual broadcast with space dandy on adult swim with a dub but that's because bebop and champloo are huge on adult swim. While baccano and durarara are well know in the anime community, they aren't actually that main stream you know.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

they only do simuldub if they believe it will be somewhat of a hit in the west, it's not for nothing it almost never happen! (and given how little people liked JG outside japan -it has such a small fandom, it's sad- they're probably wary of 91 days which gives similar vibres)

To be honest, I was hoping the Japanese staff would hire an American voice actor but I knew that wasn't going to happen.I still did have a little bit of hope though before the show aired.....
