Thanks for the response. I guess it really boils down to preference then? Since I really connected to the Made in Abyss characters and thought they were very well written. Especially Nanachi. I also think it is strange for someone to say Haibane is melodramatic but personally, I find the word to be a poor choice anyway lol. Personally, I think every show that involves drama in some way or form can be considered melodramatic if you just don't connect to the characters. Which is why I dislike that word XD

Glad you took my rant well since I kind of wrote it out of frustration XD I just hate the usage of that kind of words because it is usually just thrown out when someone doesn't know how to explain something. Kind of like how everyone calls everything a deconstruction now.

Before I start I just want to say you are entitled to your opinion. And I respect that. I personally just felt the need to comment on few things. Also sorry for the rant ahead of time.

Man, I just hate the word melodrama. We both love Haibane Renmei that is for sure but do you know how many times I have heard people call Haibane Renmei melodrama? Quite often, that is for sure. When reviewing, tend to stray from words such as melodrama edgy or any other kind of buzzwords. Also when reviewing don't compare one element of another show such as how you compared Haibane to MiA. They are honestly not that similar and focus on different things. From the little experience I also have with Kaiba and Twelve Kingdoms they are also quite different from Made in Abyss.

Kind of like your Higurashi comparison. I don't know a ton about it but personally, I found the gore in that show hilarious and over the top.
Plus I feel you missed the point about episode 10. You talk about it being a complete waste of time and how it didn't develop the characters at all. But in really simple terms it showed how much Reg really cared about her. It also showed how is brash mindedness finally led to an actual consequence. It definitely was a key part of the show and defining Reg as a character. You also mention that it is only shock factor. Which I highly disagree with. Multiple times throughout the show, the show straight up told you, this show is going to get dark. Even in episode 1 we almost see a kid get eaten who is covered in blood.

Also when complaining about Deus Ex Machina's make sure you don't have shows you like that have plenty of them in it. Considering Monster has quite a few of them in it. Did you see that? Yeah, I used another show in my example :P Contradicting myself 101 lol Also please don't get me started on the Generic Villain things. Because Monster has plenty of those. For example the Baby.

I could go on but at this point, I feel like I would be potentially wasting your time. At least we both agree on one thing. Nanachi is adorable.

Look, another one that doesn't pay attention of what he is watching... Its not a secret that the characters in MiA are kids, are you really expecting kids to have mental capabilities of a 40 Year old? (Lets not forget that Riko's abyss obsession is made because "Abyss creations are attracted by the Abyss") Tho, I understand that it isn't what you expected or that you don't like it

I'm not sure about crucifying but it sure is fun when someone expects deeply philosophical questions from a fictional 12 year old airhead.
