Peak episode of DAL till date. Everything was perfect, action was smooth, soundtracks and effects were heavenly in headphones. Just fantastic and that bittersweet ending + nostalgic vibes just made me love this series even more. Perfect point to end the series bit author decided to write 3 more volumes after this lol. 9/10 for S5

Westcott: a truly abysmal, pathetic villain that single-handedly ruined this season of Date A Live. Trying to wring emotion out of his death at the end was utterly laughable and embarrassing.

Fuck Westcott, all my homies hate Westcott.

My interpretation of the ending was that it's open ended, and open for a new studio to pick up adaptation of volume 20 onwards "Tohka World". Regardless, I guess this season ended just about how I expected with Mio's sacrifice to save the spirits, to counter Westcott's demon king. The fighting scenes were very CGI heavy but overall passable. Hoping that a final season for the series will be announced but I'm not counting on it, given Tachibana's twitter post and the situation with Geek.

Well, as an ending this was better than what I expected, still it was clearly rushed, that sucks.
I love that in the end Shido ended up with Tohka, she was his only true girlfriend after all (like it or not u Tohka haters lmao).
I do have a question tho, when did Kurumi's friend revive? Did I miss something??? In the DAL wiki it says she is deceased, she never revived, so what was she doing in the final shot with Kurumi and the cats???

Anyways, sad to see DAL go, I kinda feel there is still more to see, but idk, I didn't read the novels.
I really hope we get more DAL content in the future, anything will do, as long as it isn't as shit as the Mayuri movie lmao

This season quality wise was shit tho, like IV (even tho that one is still worst), the artstyle is good but the overuse of CGI kills it. An anime should be 100% 2D or 100% 3D, but when we have scenes of a CGI character interacting with a 2D character it all goes to shit. There were so many scenes of characters just standing there, doing absolutelly nothing, yet they are 3D instead of 2D, it looks so fkng bad.
Sorry if my english is bad (っ˘▽˘)っ~~~
Btw, cry about it.

Actually not satisfied with the ending tbh I wanted this to be continued forever.
@Ricky16 if you want to continue then you must finish the remaining volumes from the light novel...

We know already that DAL team already lack of there budget and besides they know that the story will end for mio and final battle arc. So they never want to continued the remaining volume for making next season..

This episode was a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging between triumph, sadness and even a little bit of comedy. It's funny to think that a show that begun as a romantic comedy culminated with a big battle that fit nicely into something like Dragon Ball or Final Fantasy. Since this episode featured the conclusion of multiple plotlines, I guess the animators went crazy with all the superpowers.

For now, Date A Live is over, and though the conclusion was rushed, I'm glad that our heroes survived and got their happy ending. I've seen Shido and his friends grow and evolve since day 1 and I felt happy that they were able to continue their peaceful lives because they definitely deserved it.

Goodbye, Date A Live. Your legacy will live on.

Damn, so that's the end. We got a lil bit of power of friendship then the light mode creeper exploded the dark mode creeper, RIP. Even though Shido and gang had more peeps on their side, it still ended up as a double suicide lol. Sadge Shido cri too rip.

I wonder if we'll get anymore from this series or if this is the end lol. It feels like there should be more >_<

Never ending plan to watch list...

Finally caught up!

Personally, I've always been watching DAL for its comedy and romcom harem and sweet romance moments more than anything, for its light-hearted moments basically, even though I've also always liked the stories of the spirits and the mystery behind them (Kurumi story and character in particular is my favorite).
This season had mostly fighting and violence and the characters I've grown to like 'dying' left and right, and the only potential plot of interest imo was the Shin/Shido romance with Reine but I ended up not liking it at all, and I also didn't particularly care about the backstory of the villain.

So, as you can guess, this season ended up being kind of a nightmare for me, with the exception of the first few episodes maybe which were kinda light-hearted in some bits.
Seasons 3 and 4 already had some pretty dark moments to be fair, but I didn't mind as it was balanced by a lot of comedy and romcom moments.
The fact I didn't enjoy this season at all does not change my opinion of the franchise as a whole and I'm sure I'll keep rewatching the first 4 seasons (that I each rated a 7 or a 8), and I'll even give a fair try to an eventual season 6, I just hope we'll go back to something more light-hearted maybe :)

no there are 3 volumes left to adapt

it was simply the conclusion of the main story this season.

the pictures we saw at the end are from volume 20 which is after this season.

I'm hoping for a final season or two movies..

this season adapted until the end of volume 19 of Date a live and it has 22 in total.
The end scene was apparently something that's happening in volume 20 so it makes sense that people are confused about it.

@SOLDRAKE It's an open-ended ending, where there may be potential for a new studio to pick up the series for 1 final season to finish adapting the final few light novels. However, if that never happens the ending is conclusive enough, given we end with Mio choosing Shin (death) over Shido, in order to save the spirits and world from Westcott. At least the spirits are happy in the end especially the shot with Kurumi and the cats.

There is still volume 20 which is important for me in the main story, because we have the answer on what becomes of Mio crystal and tohka, which are part of the main story, and which correct some problems of inconsistency.

On the other hand, volume 21-22 and dal encore 11 are epilogues and bonuses

While not as well produced as S1 (I mean, there's way too much 3DCG here), it was quite close and you could tell everyone was putting their best effort in for DAL. A roller coaster in terms of pacing and emotions and contender for harem anime Hall of Fame. Hopefully there will be a S6 or movies to cover what the best girl has to offer us but it's obvious they left it quite open just in case this season doesn't sell enough to justify more content and this becomes the end. There's also the problem of the last episodes feeling very rushed which probably is true since they wanted this to be (an open) end for the franchise. Even so, this being the ending and all, DAL V ends on a great note, offering everything the franchise is known for. Harem, romance, action and dates. I'll see everyone on the next one if it ever comes.

We've reached the finale of DAL for.. I don't know how long. I know that there's probably enough material for another season, but I also know the curse that follows this franchise where several (but not all) of the studios that took it had financial issues after.

But here we are in the flower dimension, with Shido doing his all to steal the girl. Suppose I do have to give credit to the fact the OG wants her happy. Even in death, he tries to be noble. A W for the fact he gets Reine in his arms by the end of that.

And all that leaves is DEM being DEM. He didn't need to become an Origin Spirit on top of all the gimmicks he's been using. Somebody needed to shut this guy down. Truly a king of sore losers at this point.

Mio did something 🙏 I can appreciate her sacrifice to neg Westcott. She gets her one hero moment. All that.. and Westcott still gets time to say some final words. He doesn't deserve the tears, after all the mess.

But wow, this certainly was a season with its ups and downs.

My man, DAL story has been nice and emotional ever since Origami arc in S3, that shit was STRONG in the source material, you just gotta blame the studios for not doing a good enough job, and if you go read the LNs (yes, here it goes), you would find it to be far from a dumb story, aside the fuckery that Mio does, I hated that bitch so damm hard when I read vol.18.

It's been 11 years, and I've finally reached the end.

There are a lot of things that aren't explained at the end, but referencing the light novel does fill in some of the blanks, but now I'm almost certain there won't be another season based on how they ended it.

Absolutely love this frame with all the spirits minus Mio, and inclusive of the Maria in her new spirit form. Each of them are watching out for Shido as he charges in with Mio to face Westcott's demon king. Can't believe DAL is over, perhaps the final time given there is no season vi announcement.

Read the LN volume 20 (the next volume to be adapted). There may be a reason why a certain scene following Mio's floating sephirah was skipped (what happened to Mio's sephirah?), and why the episode finished with 'happy' scenes that has inconsistencies (Kurumi scene).

The first chapter title of the next volume is
When things seem too good to be true, then it probably is.

Date A Live is one of those anime that I never thought will get to go this far. Dropped and picked it back up is I would say my relationship with this franchise. Through the middle of the season, I noticed there was a hype for this latest season and then I binge watch S4 which I never watch and all the way to S5, does this season better than S4? I would believe so. I also enjoyed this one a bit more than last season.

But, the thing is with Date A Live V, as with its predecessors. the characters were underdeveloped, not only that due to its harem status, it was inevitable that the relationship of the MC and and his harem after he sealed them was going to take a backseat. So, for the story. I quite enjoyed the twists and the developement and I can understand those avid fans would probably like this and hype this one more. But, due to lack of emotional investments with its characters it will be pretty hard to feel any emotional height this season trying to achieve. Plus, for better or worse the same formula found in prev season also played a huge role in this story.

My rating 7.5/10
I cannot bring myself to rate anime that I have completed below 5. Well, it just because I have use up my precious time to watch it. so, the worse you will get from me is 5 (changes may apply)

Can't believe it's ending here. I had a feeling they might go for an anime original ending, though there's still a small chance another studio might adapt the last three volumes.

Still a good stopping point, even though the last episode was very rushed. I guess Geektoys did all they could before closing down and we're blessed we actually got to this point.

The show certainly had its ups and downs with the studio changes and stuff like that, but I'm glad I followed it since the beginning.

Shame the ending was so rushed.

I still feel i was correct in my much prior conclusion on the nature of Mio as a primary antagonist. Even if Westcott was attempting to be the puppeteer, he was unable to even properly keep his own creation in check. The fact Kurumi could rid him of his most useful tool like that proves he's not powerful at all. Even with his attempt to create another original spirit, except to be the user himself, he had to use the existing one as fuel, and only luck permitting. If Mio wasn't distracted with her own motives, Westcott would have been deleted in an instant long before having the chance to reach some apex of power.

Westcott was a weak pathetic man that resorted to compulsive scheming and planning in order to manifest his obsessions, and never has much real power himself, needing to use everything else and everyone else to get anywhere; this is not real power, this is faux power. Even a reduced Mio (as her power was largely divided up amongst the other spirits) was able to "cancel out" Westcott's silly imitation demon spirit.

Westcott's lengthy games in the background and string-pulling posits him as the seemingly prime evil, but in reality what happened, was the main antagonist, Mio, was already beaten by Shido, and that left Westcott as the "mopping up the rest"... Mio was always going to win against Westcott if she tried, regardless of whatever he attempted. It was already game over the moment Mio changed her mind.

All that aside, i still find it difficult to imagine trying to legitimize and accept Mio, who previously murdered everyone out of pure villainous selfishness, along with countless collateral... she's clearly a homicidal maniac, and yet Shido is like "it's all in the past"... They even hand-waved it like "i know this sounds weird coming from me after i killed everyone, but let's save everyone!"... These turnouts never really sit right with me, though at the very least often character ends like this result in paying for their sins with ultimate sacrifice.

Man, your feelings of hatred for MIO are clear, it is clear that you will never accept her, she literally sacrificed her life to save humanity and yes, for your information, she was remorseful for her actions and this is made clear in the novel.

Also, Mio is not the main antagonist, she is a temporary antagonist like Kurumi or Origami. It cannot be denied that this story exists thanks to her and that everyone lives happily thanks to her as well.

@GenesisAria
The way you explain the character of MIO is very superficial. She is not evil or a crazy killer, and this was confirmed in the novel. Every MIO has a broken character. She used to be a really good person, but she changed due to feelings of despair, but on the characters who bury their good side and turn into... Evil, Mio remained preserving part of her previous morals. Yes, she changed, but she remained preserving her morals. This was not included in the anime, but most of the girls who turned into spirits were girls on the verge of suicide, but Mio saved their lives, and her desire to Saving the world is a sincere desire coming from her. After the Shin date, let's say, she regained her true personality and kind nature. We do not use excuses to justify actions. Justification is the nature of the character.
