I’d like to share my own thoughts and interpretations based on my assumptions of this mv/song, as I am not entirely sure myself.

At a very distant time into the future, a war or natural disaster breaks and destroys the MC’s “planet”. MC’s father was probably one of the lead design engineers behind a major capsule project, before the catastrophe took place.

Seems like MC played a major part in this mission hence why she is the only one inside the capsule. This "mission" could symbolise a time for self-reflection and growth for MC. MC has subsequently left her dearest family to "save the planet" OR The father has finally realised MC is no longer "Daddy's Little Girl" and it was about time he gave her freedom BUT MC doesn't want to grow up. As expected, the capsule seems to have some sort of time travel capabilities. The MC is currently suspended in space and is actually enslaved by her past.

Capsule + Shelter = The longing for fatherly love/protection and the clinging to nostalgia

OR

My other interpretations based on my assumptions of the song lyrics is that

This could be a "daddy appreciation" music video. MC's father has left her for a better cause, she wants to see her father again and make him proud by following a similar creative path to his, hence why she was designing things. MC has created this ideal world, which only she lives in and wants to share it with her talented father. A music video bound to hit home with females who have daddy issues.

Her daddy is "so wonderful" to her.

Seems like this is the new Me! Me! Me! then (short anime film that goes viral and generates a lot of buzz)

The story feels like kind of an underwhelming feels grab to me but I love Madeon so I still approve

I love how the top review is basically "I don't like it cuz it has a cute girl"

this was beautiful, and very inspirational. I was quite iffy on what this short would come about since I thought I was just browsing landscapes and scenery, but it tied together quite nicely. Not a huge fan of the audio though. 8-9/10

I think it was alright, impressive in terms of visual quality and the song itself is catchy with decent style. I can't say more than that though as I'm not a big fan of anime music video so for me, it was just fine.

This was amazing! I already liked the song a lot by itself but for it to end up having an anime music video for it BLEW MY MIND!!!

It's also good to see that it's getting a good bit of popularity too, trending on FB and youtube.

I've never heard of Porter and Madeon before and I only knew about Shelter through an anime website, but I decided to spend a few minutes to listen. It was so beautiful.

So it starts with a girl with a tablet that she can use to create gorgeous landscapes by will. She hadn't had contact with anyone for roughly seven years. Flashbacks of her father suddenly start because of an unconscious memory and she now questions if she's able to withstand the loneliness. The tablet then created her hometown and made her experience the event leading her to all this. A planet crashing down the Earth and the father trying to save the girl with a high tech spacecraft. She finally gets a message after all these years and it was from her father...turns out that the last human in existence is floating in space in a comatose state, seemingly never to wake up again.

It certainly was tragic now that I think of it... :'(

Not really good. The song didn't leave an impact for me but the art is outstanding (considering it's from A-1 Pictures which their works recently suck).

After all, the best short anime for me still Tsumiki no Ie. The story telling of that anime is really great.

Finally for this short anime, give 7/10. Art is really the best one here. Story? not really

For a six minute music video with little dialogue, it was nicely done.
The scenes with her and her faster were so sweet… (in general I'd like to see better representation of father-daughter relationships in anime)

For 6 minutes, i am content with the amount of story it was able to deliver.

Not sure why the rating is so high, it's good but nothing amazing, felt like a music video with a little more to it.

Okay I rewatched it and after stumbling around a bit, my views about it changed.

The animation is amazing. Makes the video highly rewatchable. And the song is pretty good, it brings out the feels well.

Now the story is. At first I thought it was trying too hard, but then I realized that it was just conveying as much as it could in 6 mins. Despite that, there were lots of little details which can be picked up in only 2-3 listens, so it makes it a success. I'm interested in how it would continue. Reading the lyrics of the song, the girl is definitely up to something. Some of the theories I read were really interesting, too.
Still found the whole father sending the daughter to live alone for God-knows-how-many-years to be a bit wrong. He did it with good intentions, his fatherly instincts took over I guess. Maybe he wanted her to grow up to be at least 18, an adult before the reveal comes up.

Definitely 8+

"Oh, a music video with mean score over 8? This must be something really good. And there's even Kanamewo in Reccomendations. Must watch fast."

"Studios: A-1 Pictures"

Oh for fuck's sake, was there ever a good drama made by A-1? The story was boring, the music was boring, the animaion was average. Especially the music, it was so... uninteresting. There are much more interesting anime MVs out there and this doesn't deserve it's rating at all.

I know it was more the directors (or whoever made the script) fault, it's just that statistically A-1 is the mark of bad drama, so it kinda killed my hype.

I don't get the hate behind it. Big forum discussion about it(was removed what the heck?) and decided to watch it. It's the first music "anime" that I watched. I gave it a 9/10
I don't really know how to critique something this short, but it has great visuals, great music, the music went fairly well with the visuals, I don't get the whole "bad drama" people are talking about. It's a 6 minute music video I guess people are comparing the plot and storytelling to of something like code Geass.

Seriously, someone who thinks this video is no good, link me to a music 6 minute anime that you would describe as incredible so I have something to compare this video to

I'm thinking this could be a nice double episode (48 minute) ONA which goes into more details about Rin's world and how she came into that. The video was done very well and did a good overview about her and her world. Now I want to see more of it.

Yes, the idea of living inside a computer world has been overdone, but this has a different feel because it was based off a surviving alone vs. either choosing or being "kidnapped".

I wouldn't call it horrible than it's not that good. It's not the best song I ever heard put to a video. It felt more like mood music to elicit emotions, much like music in movies.

I was inferring to the first arc of SAO.

I guess the length could be debated with how much detail they want to put into it. I can't see it being told in just one 24 minute episode.

I agree with the length. I thought you meant two 48 minute episodes, not two 24 minute episodes.

She was went off into deep space alone. She is basically just floating around until her body dies, which who knows how long it will last? I think death would have been the better option by a long shot.

IT WAS TOUCHING. I've watched it at least 5 times and teared up every time. However it does leave me feeling a little hollow and brings forth some questions.

One of them is, if she is in a virtual simulator that allows her to create whatever she wants, why is she incapable of creating a virtual companion for herself to chase the loneliness away, even if its only temporary? Did her father not have enough time to implement a feature for that before the world would end? Or did he just not think of it? Its a bit cruel that he doomed his child to seemingly an eternity of loneliness ( T least until her eventual death. She is human, after all ) even though he meant well with his intentions. She would have been better off dying with him, so then they would at least have each other in death.

(I'm also wondering how she's still alive, especially after 7 years. Does the machine pump her full of the nutrients and things she needs to keep her alive?? But I guess that's not important )

Its even sadder at the end because now that she knows of her origins and that what's lost will never be brought back, she'll be even lonelier than before and for the rest of her existence.

It was a very bittersweet story and ending, but touching all the same. Ahh, also leaves me wondering what would happen if an asteroid crashes into her ship. Did he plan for that as well? I guess we weren't supposed to think about it in depth since its only a 6 minute short but still.

This was really underwhelming.

The story wasn't developed nearly enough to build any sort of connection, yet the addition of dialogue and the father's letter make it such an integrated part of the music video that I don't think it can be dismissed in favor of a purely audiovisual experience either. This would've been a lot better had they left out the story elements entirely-- or the very least the aforementioned dialogue, letter, etc..

As is it comes off as cheap feelsbait.
