Also, this is so Tomino lol. I don't think it is, I think it really is just using hand drawn cell animation for the character and mecha animation and maybe even some of the backgrounds though there is some awkward CGI in there in episode 1. If it's not then it's extremely convincing because who goes out of their way to add those little squigglies and subtle imperfections of pencil and crayon drawn animation using a computer that's calibrated to make everything look smoother. Some of the characters' close-ups really looked like they were hand-drawn. Though I disagree with the CGI part: it fit really well, in my opinion. I dare say that some of the CG backgrounds and a few shots of the orbital elevator looked impressive. |

The art-style just seems kinda out of date. Maybe they're trying to go for that oldie look on purpose, for some oldie Gundam nostalgia? Can't say I like it but I guess can tolerate it if the everything else is good, it might even grow on me. |

My point was I don't feel what you gain from watching UC before Unicorn is comparable to what you gain from watching UC before Turn A, and theoretically G-Reco. Can you really grasp the entirety of Unicorn without knowledge of UC? It's too early to tell for G-Reco, but you can certainly take in all of Turn A just knowing UC existed prior. Non, non - no exclusivity - I probably should have mentioned that I'm also planning on watching (or re-watching where it applies) all the anime in each "dimension's" - each Gundam World - in chronological order for that particular world, I just need to decide on the next one to watch, atm. I guess some people refer to them as Gundam Timelines. That was the main reason I was watching all of UC in order like that, but I started with UC because I knew Reconguista was coming. I know there won't be won't be much relative material - but there are tiny details that only those who HAVE seen all of Gundam will be able to spot, much less enjoy. I love that kind of stuff - I mean, you know why Gintama is so funny to so many diehard anime fans, well, it's because they get ALL the jokes that reference other anime, right? Marzan said: It's probably the old nostalgic in me...but I enjoyed this so much. It's like Tomino ignored the last 20 years of anime and steamed on ahead doing exactly the kind of stuff that made him famous back in the day. I'm so happy that Sunrise let the old man do this. Fast action packed start, someone already got slapped in the first episode, people talking at each other in snappy tones...It's all there (minus guy with a mask but this is only the first episode). I think I'm gonna love this. But I guess this won't be for everyone. My favorite bit was when the Capital Force officer said "Aida Rayhunton? You just took 2 names and stuck them together!" For some reason that line coming in a series from the same guy who gave us the likes of 'Paptimus Scirocco, 'Quattro Bajeena', 'Merrybell Gadget', 'Agrippa Maintainer' or 'Mashymre Cello' just seems perfect. *jotting Marzan's name down on the approved list* my fave Gundam names: M'Quve (wtf?), Haman Karn, Elpeo Ple, Emary Ounce, &...Junko Jenko (ok, someone just got straight up a little punchy after being up for too long trying to make a deadline or something on that last one, right? RIGHT?) If it sounds cool in Japanese, go for it seems to be the mantra! |

Well, that was how I interpreted your statement; that G-Reco will mostly be "rewarding" via suit/name references. I don't disagree, and corroborated with my first statement. I just added, in that sense, Unicorn is more "rewarding" as it contains much more than references, but ties in plot points and characters from the rest of UC. Of course, that's largely due to Unicorn being UC, but regardless. Perhaps my wording was off, but somehow personal preference came into play later in the conversation, albeit I never stated mine. |

The art style they used was almost identical to eureka seven's. I'm loving it. Like the feel like as if it were an 80's Gundam while having the art up to date. I would say if you were a returning Gundam fan, its best to take this series light hearted. It doesn't look like it'll be a super serious series but it looks promising. |

Well.. This is freakin' weird. It's like Captain Earth, if Captain Earth was a 70's anime, done with to look like a 2005 anime, with 2014 animation technology; with even more misogynistic moments. Nothing was explained, the girl gets her mobile suit jacked 3 random army men, who then celebrate by playing bombastic music as if they just did something worth celebrating. All the while, girls either cried, were held down, or were cheerleaders. Yep, 70's style alright. |

*detaches parachute* Well, maybe I made the wrong decision to choose this to be the first Gundam I try. I know you guys love the old school style but I guess it's not for me. I love the art and designs, but I can barely handle the directing and the sound effects. Guess I'll go for one with a more modern feel, if there's any. |

It was an alright first episode. Wasn't to flashy. I'm liking the protagonist so far, so that's good. The mobile suit designs are bit of a mix bag though. Still, at least there is no mustache. I hope this goes well. Or at least better than the last portion of AGE. |

I've seen a few Gundam series. This one has a pretty unique feel to it - the usual militaristic elements, but seemingly a lot more light-hearted and with a much brighter atmosphere. The synopsis makes it seem as if that won't last. I find it pretty intriguing. |

An okay start so far. The designs are growing on me, but i'm still wary of the colorful art. You would think an era after UC, the world only be rebuilding from the destruction of the previous century. Also the animation is a mixed of old and new, with some old sound effects as well. OP is good, ED is a joke LOL Of course it wouldn't be a Tomino show without girls being kicked and slapped as hell. Though it kinda felt tone down compared to his older shows. And yeah, the MC i don't like him. You don't need broody type like Kamille or Amuro. But at least wipe that smile out of your face since your at war here and not some tea party. So far so good besides the MC. Will watch it more! I wonder if this will be a 45+ episodes like most Tomino Gundams? |

4/5 Not being a fan relentless Gundam universe, I found a little confusing this first episode. But I must admit that the narrative while being very fast has had some good moments characterized by fights bad. I also appreciate the Character Design, Costume Design and Color Design. Finally, I also liked the fact that you would use CG for the mecha and the beauty of the environments I was kidnapped. Not bad ending. For now, my vote is 6/10! |

I wonder if these pirates are the current version of the Crossbone Vanguard? They use a very similar symbol. I really liked this, the first scene with capturing the G-Self was a bit weird since it didn't seem to relate to the rest of the anime but I expect we'll get to learn more about that later. The 80's animation style works really well for me, but then Zeta is my favourite Gundam series, and I'm surprised I like the character designs since I really don't like Eureka 7 at all and it's the same character designer. Mech design is cool as well. The Grimoir looks like nothing else in the metaverse and later designs like the Monteiro, Hecate and G-Arcane suggests this'll keep up, I'm so tired of GM analogues. |

This new Gundam series feels really odd for me. The characters aren't so bad but the setting just don't seem right for me, I was hoping for something more classic, but instead we have here some high school for pilots with cheerleaders (seriously?). The Mech designs aren't looking good for me neither. Generally I feel really disappointed with this new Gundam series but I will give it a couple more episodes, maybe it will turn out to be good after some time. |

I'm a Gundam fan, but I've been postponing watching G-Reco because the tiresome clashing between fans and haters of this series kinda drove me away. But one thing I kept hearing is that it looks good, if nothing else, and after IBO's lackluster animation and suit design I decided to stop postponing watching this for this very reason. On that aspect, all I can say is that this episode was amazing. First off, there's a deliberate attemp to make it look old-school, employing motion and impact lines that look drawn on pencil, and most rough lines are drawn with a grit you don't usually see in modern, more clean style animation. It looks fresh, ironically enough, as it's something you don't see very often. But that's not what really got me hooked on it's visual side, it was the attention to detail. I lost count of how many little things there were, from how the machinery moves to reflections on the pilot's helmets. If this keeps up for the whole series it'll be a good visual ride. As for character designs, it's a mixed bag. Like some, dislike others. It's no surprise, as I feel that way about Eureka Seven and King Gainer's character designs too. That also goes for the mecha design, I really like the G-Self and the "baldy" pirate mobile suit, but dislike the Recten and Catsith. Now for the episde itself I guess it's what I expected from Tomino. Abrupt cuts and some lines thrown away with little context. This is not my first rodeo with that bald bastard so its alright. However, I can't shake the feeling a lot of the complaints about nonsensical dialogue is the subtitles fault. I turned them off halfway through because they were getting in the way more than helping. Typing words I don't know into a Japanese dictionary worked better. There's one particular scene Bellri screams "海賊をやるなんて、やめなさい", which should probably be translated as "Stop this act of Piracy" or something to a similar effect ("Stop acting as a Pirate" sounds weird), but the subtitles have it as "Don't be a Pirate!". Uh... No. This is just plain wrong. Tomino writes weird shit as it is, the last thing this show needed was this kind of translation fuckup. I also like the setting we've seen so far, namely the Space Elevator. It's a lot closer from the conjectures of what a Space Elevator would be like than those beautifully dumb giant tower things 00 had. I also like how it's integrated with existing UC technology, it uses Minovsky Flight. That actually makes a lot of sense. I like when UC works come up with reasonable explanations for new tech, based on established concepts, instead of introducing something out of left field. As for plot and characters, too early to tell anything. My first impression of the protagonist is positive, I liked how he improvised weapons with that maintenance equipment his Recten had. Aida is also pretty cool. And she got the first slap. Wound't be the first episode of a Tomino Gundam if someone didn't get slapped. The white haired girl is cute. I hope she recovers soon from her shock/oxygen deprivation. Sorry for the gigantic post, I just had too much to talk about this episode. I can see how this anime is not for everyone from the start, but I also see people talking a lot about the problems it has later on (I hear the story was told in 26 episodes because Tomino didn't feel like he could handle a longer one so there's stuff that feels very rushed) so I guess it'll be a bumpy ride, but the first episode impression couldn't be better. |
