Haters need to appreciate the quality this episode gave us in the end with Komugi and Meruem. 11/10

Up until the credits I was thinking, "Wow wasn't this episode weak? I really was hoping for more" and then the ending absolutely killed me.

I do not consider myself an overly emotional guy, though I definitely have had watery eyes at various points in different anime, but never like this, I still have tears running down my face as I am writing this, five minutes after watching, it's so hard to believe. And I really thought I didn't care about Meruem or Komugi

Absolutely amazed by Togashi's story and Madhouse's delivery

Nope, me too.

People are weird you know. Feeling sad for human eating creature because he found love ? So lets forget the people he killed or ate. LOL. Screw your romantic thoughts.

Well I'm not into romance at all and I don't really take to the whole romantic couple thing but what got to me was the fact that meruem went from an arrogant 'human eating creature' to a humble 'better than human creature'. He managed to swallow his pride for someone he truly cared about and I find that touching. He was a better ant than any human.

My word... I don't even have words... I shed a tear. The character growth my word, the character growth.. Why does it only go to 10. 12/10. Probably the best ending to a shounen arc I've ever seen.
Thank you so much MADHouse the mangaka, everyone.

I mean the antagonist, THE ANTAGONIST character growth... of this scale.. this really is something you'll probably only see once in your lifetime.

The episode was portrayed in a really beautiful manner. It started with Palm going through the denial Gon went through with trying to realize that the Ants aren't really as one dimensional as they're seeing them, her tears and Meruem bowing with that angle Madhouse put the picture in, + the music, made such a huge impact. Then we go a bit to the aftermath of the arc, and we go back to the gungi game with all the symbolism it contained. The black scenes from the manga were kinda well-portrayed except when they tried to throw in the frames of Meruem and Komugi, but that's just nitpicking. (the preview was kinda unncessary as well)

Overall a pretty well done episode, a couple of things that could've been done better, but the impact was sure as hell there. Good job Madhouse.

Amazingly well done episode. Props to Togashi, and Madhouse for the superb a adaptation. Great ending to the arc, it was feeling kind of dull at times, specially after the fight with Netero but this episode overwrote everything.

Great episode. They really milked the feels for Meruem and Komugi...it was hard to keep those tears back. Could she just wipe her nose though, seriously? -.- I mean, she's blind, but I'm sure she can feel the snot on her face. Sigh.

Lol, besides that, really loved it. Palm might have been a tad too overdramatic...but eh, whatever. Felt bad about Netero too.

Can't wait for next week! I don't believe the manga has much written after the Chimera Ant Arc...anyone know what will happen to the anime? Gah, I would really hate to see it go, especially after Space Brothers and all my usuals are gone as well. :'(

Anyways, hopefully Gon is okay!

It maybe my first post here but I've been watching the discussion threads from episode 85 and I registered just to vote 5/5 for this episode and give a score of 10 to this amazing anime :) This episode and episode 131 were literally the best thing I've seen in my life :) I didn't cry though since I've been spoiled but I was on the verge of it.Thanks Togashi. Thanks MadHouse. An amazing conclusion to an amazing arc of an amazing anime. :)

i lierally readed everypost here, dunno why, i'm just so moved....damm i mean, such action packed episodes, the figths the plot...but man, the antagonist...the freaking antagonist was the star, it has happened in the past, that antagonist are so cool that they completely overshadow the main characters (like L. or hyobou kyousuke, the last even got hi own series) but man...meruem....i don't even know what to say anymore..i'm kinda mindblown....really hard, i'm kinda mad at myself that tougth that meruem should had died vs netero, that was a cool death, sure, but this one, its gonna taka a place in the most memorable deaths of all times, at least in anime.......komugi X meruem 4ever

I really like how they animated what was just black with dialogue in the manga. I think it was the King's En that was floating around, but it looked like fireflies.

Really beautiful ending to Meruem + Komugi.

Also @ whoever said that we're crying for a killer - I don't think anyone's crying that Meruem's dead (well at least I'm not). It's the King's evolution from mere mindless killing Ant to "human" that's making these waterworks happen.

Almost every character in this series has killed somebody. I doubt that the ants killed more people than lets say the Zoldyck family.

You can't blame a lion for eating children. If you do, you need to blame a human for eating a chicken.

I don't get the (few) people who think this should've ended any other way. All the build-up of the last few episodes tells us that the King is essentially unstoppable. No other Nen users come close. It would've felt really bullshitty if he'd ended up losing to Gon in some epic end-of-arc showdown, not to mention completely out of place. Gon's hatred was always personal and directed at Neferpitou, not the King; he wouldn't even be able to muster the rage to fight him in that costly adult form (let alone the fact that he *just* got done using it).

It's only fitting that the bomb's poison got him in the end. It makes Netero's sacrifice worthwhile, since he was still the one who brought down Meruem (and 2 of the royal guards) -- reiterated in the episode when the green dude thanks him for his service and Morel says he did his job well.

Finally, it ties back into the arc's theme of humanity's potential for unflinching greed and malice. In a fair, honorable fight, the ants (Meruem) wipe the floor with the humans (Netero). It was only through underhanded, artificial, deceptive tactics that Netero was able to pull out a win. Even then it required self-annihilation, a final act of rage and selfless deference to one's species -- mirroring the ants' own loyalty.

Humanity's dominating instinct is just as fierce as theirs, but they've evolved to use trickery and exploitation in combat to make up for a lack of natural weapons like teeth and claws. The poison perfectly represents this understated yet tenacious killing instinct. The arc's over, and the threat to millions of humans has been eliminated. Why? Because humans themselves are already so good at killing millions of other humans. All it takes is a "poor man's, easily mass-produced" bomb -- not even the worst of our arsenal.

Togashi's writing of this arc was truly masterful. Thematic and character development unlike anything else I've seen in shounen. I am so glad I picked up HxH and got to witness this beauty as it aired.

I don't see him as a killer because he's from another specie. I don't care if our both species can think and talk.
Humans simply are his meal in the beginning. So no hard feelings from me.

Switching our conceptions of humans and ants is the whole point of this arc. No one's thoughts were easily manipulated; it takes careful, skilled development to make a human audience side with and feel for an ant. What was your point, then? That human emotion is easily manipulated by good storytelling? No shit, that's why we watch anime.

Meruem might be a killer, but you haven't been paying attention if you *still* think he's a monster compared to humans.

It's been about twenty minutes since I finished watching this episode. And the tears haven't stopped yet.

This arc had its ups and downs, but the last few episodes were nothing short of spectacular. But I don't really feel like going on an essay about CA, cause I'm at a loss of words right now.

That was a great finale. Couldn't have been any better, imho.

PS: but the damn preview, tho. Including it was certainly not necessary.

"Chimera Ants killing Humans" and "Humans killing Chimera Ants" are just like Mushishi's Mushi and Humans discourse (...kinda).

Ginko would say: "It's not your fault. Neither its the Chimera Ant's fault. Both are trying to live."

The problem is that the Chimera Ants are imperative predators, and Mushis are something between life and death and can interact with humans (good and bad things may happen, tho). The point is, both are trying to control za warudo, so, this is just natural.

These are the episodes that really tell you that Hunter x Hunter is better then every single shounen out here. To have the most emotional moment come to the King of all people is truly surprising. Madhouse did an excellent job. I wouldn't change a single scene.

Next week, this arc will be over. What a ride its been. This arc will go down as one of the most morally complex arcs in shounen history in my book.

OMG, WHY????? WHY MERUEM X KOMUGI RELATIONSHIP HAS TO BE SO BEAUTIFUL, SO BEAUTIFUL THAT WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE, T_T. Seriously, they make the most beautiful couple in HxH ever, I just can't ship for no one else but them, I mean this episode really demonstrated how much they both love each other, so much that Meruem wants to spend his last minutes with his love one while Komugi wants to unite with him after his death: she chose to die along with him, THAT LET ME WITH NO WORDS.
I couldn't stop from crying that I wish their moment will never come to an end: why it has to end when they finally together. ;_; OVERALL, SUCH AV BEAUTIFUL EPISODE, IN FACT IS MY FAVORITE EPISODE FROM HXH OVERALL, THIS EPISODE WILL ALWAYS CARRY IN MY MEMORIES, SO MEMORABLE: LET'S ALL CARRY THIS IN OUR HEARTS: MERUEM X KOMUGI TOGETHER FOREVER!!!!!!

This ending was very cringe worthy, especially at the beginning, but I have to give togashi credit, that ending was pretty good, and it did something different, I never expected such a powerful person to die like that. Good ending for a arc I didn't like that much.

Didn't like ant arc, but the ending was admittedly good.

MAL threads are so boring sometimes...we get it, you all cried. Rehashes and repeats of the same sentiment get old to read super fast...use the quote button if you have to.../pettycomplaint

Can someone explain the real supreme leaders poem for me? Yeah, it ties into the themes of the chimera ant arc pretty well, but I was wondering if there was any significance in him being the one to recite the poem. Who was impersonating him? Is it important?
It's kind of interesting (and accurate!) how the whole ordeal seemed very distant when explained via the news station. Often times you hear news of some devastating event across the globe but our apathy prevents us from truly caring. We "like" things on facebook, share them to "spread the word" but do we has humans truly try to make the world a better place, or are we just trying to survive within the boundaries of society?
I love this arc so much.
